Gameday: NAB Cup Essendon vs Brisbane

5 months but finally Essendon playing competitive footy again :thumbsu:

Magin to be dropped from the Essendon team, imo.

Brisbane's midfield looks very strong with the only omission from the best team being Simon Black who usually carves it up against us. Power, Lappin, Adcock, Johnstone and Notting will be very tough to beat. Their forward line is very under-strength though missing J.Brown, Bradshaw, Clark and probably a few others.

It's impossible to predict games in the pre-season but If we can match them in the midfield the game will be ours. Johns could have day out with Merrett missing.

Looking forward to the game with much anticipation. I think Hooker will be dropped because as GoDons has said he has plenty more time to develop being very much a development player. I think Magin would be retained due to the fact that he could probably have a run in the midfield. Bombers by 15.

Absolutely can't wait for tonight!!! :thumbsu:

Will be watching from Windy Hill. Has been too long since we've seen a game of footy.

I'm glad we've selected so many kids as it will be a good opportunity for them to show us something before the season starts.

I think Brisbane will win by about 28 points however Essendon will get a good run and learn a lot.

At this point, I don't think there's any winners or losers tonight. As cliche as it sounds.... they're all winners for just being there and it's all about getting some run in the legs and finding out which each players, of both teams, can provide.

Is it just me or did anyone else wake up this morning with a spring in their step? Tonight is the start of the Baby Bomber M11 journey.

Certainly did! Then remembered I had to work . Now I am knackered, will have a Nana Nap for an hour or two, and get to do it all again! :D

"See the Bombers Fly Up, Up....."

Anyone on here know where, or if, I can find a live stream for this game?

Its being shown live on Setanta Broadband and on the Setanta Sports channel in the US, so there should be something out there.

I'm outside OZ, and don't have a Setanta subscription, so that would be the only way I could see the game.

I'm pretty new to this stuff, but I have TVants and SopCast, so if anyone knows any direct links to find the game, it would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Definately have a sense of anticipation and excitment about tonight. I'm going to be looking out for individual performances tonight as I think it would be too much to expect a flawless structure and gameplan in the new coach's first game.

Going to keep an eye out for our defensive pressure that I've heard so much about during the off-season.

Go Dons!:thumbsu::)

I for one would like to see Magin play. There is a fair chance that he would have played against Suncoast Lions last year so he may have come up against a fair few of them before. What is wrong with giving the home town kid a game? He may go down with the names like David Johnson, Adam Winter and Ryan Bain and be gone with a blink of an eye but what is the chance that Sheedy would have done it

It's been confirmed that Magin's playing, so you get your wish.

He's a creative type, I'm looking forward to seeing what he's got.

To be brutally honest I have to say that we are going to be struggling a lot tonight with our midfield, mainly because of the match up differences, Brisbane just seem too strong compared to us, I think we are going to crash and burn if we can't play some good attacking footy tonight otherwise they'll just run us over with their style of footy, its that simple. I'm just using my knowledge from last season but then all of this could be no problem for us at all, I'm just hoping that we have found a new style of footy that works for our midfield and for the whole team.
I think our forward line seems pretty solid for this game and our back line should do well with Mal Michael there to lead the team, hopefully Myers and Pears will have a good game as well as everyone else and I'm looking forward in seeing Cale hooker play, cause I haven't seen any footage of him at all since he was drafted and I'm interested in how he goes about it on the field.

In the end I'm tipping Essendon to win by a goal. Essendon: 89 Brisbane: 83

If our midfield proves me very wrong then I'll tip us to win by about 30 points.

Very inexperienced team hitting the field tonight, hvae not been so excited since the start of last season, yeh it's only the NAB cup but seeing our young guns out on the field should be a treat.

thanks for the invite to drop by Merv...

good luck tonight - both teams are fielding young sides but the Bombers have probably gone further and are giving all the young-uns a run...good for you

it's got to happen eventually and you've had a pretty long run before 'rebuilding' but i don't think you'll be there too long

Port Adelaide and, to a lesser degree, the Lions last year showed that a rebuild needn't take 5 years...even though you stuck with the veterans last year, you've still managed to blood some exciting talent over the past couple of seasons and when they all approach 50 games, Lloyd and Lucas will still provide the fireworks up front and convert hard work

personally i suspect your 2008 will be similar to our 2007 - brilliant in patches and bloody ordinary in others...the good thing is that even if you aren't winning games, i suspect you will see some running, attacking football and, trust me, that will get you through the lean patches

Sheeds' legacy would have to be the number of indigenous boys he attracted to the club - you have some seriously gifted lads coming through and I will find it hard not to be cheering them on this year (when they're not playing the Lions ;)

Alwyn Davey in particular typifies that new type of football - i think he adds a dimension to your team that Rhan Hooper adds for us...the sort of player that you didn't know your team was missing until he took the field :thumbsu:

anyway sorry for my long rambling post - i just wanted to say all the best and that even though I suspect we will win due to superior experience on the park tonight i wouldn't be surprised at all to see your young brigade grab a few big scalps in the NAB...

...i just hope it's not tonight ;)

peace

No, thankyou for your input Beatnik.

It is refreshing to occasionally see rational, intelligent, constructive comments on here rather than the usual drivel.

Drop by any time. :thumbsu:

Well danzan, I haven't been this excited since about 1977 when the whiz kids from Windy Hill came on the scene. In fact the antcipation and expectation would nearly rival a 40 year old virgin gauranteed his first conquest. Have never tipped against the Dons, 4 goals tonight.

Spot on!

Cheers beatnik... Looking forward to watching the future of both clubs having a hit out tonight! :thumbsu:

You must have typed that before it was even through the sticks.

I reckon no one in australia would have had money on pev to kick the first goal :p
