WHAT WAS EVERY OTHER CLUB THINKING ETC ETC!

Shows that the armchair recruiters are exactly that. So much more to recruitment than talent identification.

It's not a tragedy by any means. He just doesn't want the AFL career badly enough. Hope he finds his way in the world.

This guy knows his stuff.

This is going to make clubs be even more hesitant to pick up anybody who isn't 100% committed to playing AFL. Hawks must be spewing.

Yes, I'm hoping our club changes its attitude to high risk draft picks, we've had a number of them who haven't worked out. I understand how tempting it is to see a kid with all the ability in the world, but we need to resist in future.

That he doesn't want to live his life living the AFL lifestyle does not make him soft, nor does it mean it's something he's going to regret.

I can't imagine the demands that playing AFL can have on someone who's not 100% committed to that lifestyle and just because you have a greater than normal ability to play the game shouldn't mean you should be seen as a failure if you decide to walk away.

He's not the first, and won't be the last, to decide he wants to do different things with the best years of his life than play football. Good luck to him.

What an absolute disgrace and weak bloke he must be. Obviously no mental strength at all.

Takes another young man's spot who would have been dedicated to train. Hope he never gets paid to play footy anywhere again

What are you talking about? The IRL recruiters recruited him.

Biggest issue I have is the poor grammar in the original tweet

He'll eventually mature and grow out of his party lifestyle. We have to remember he's only 19. He's obviously to good for state level and IIRC was supposed to go top 5 in his draft. We'll have to wait and see.

Nobody will be interested. He's cited the routine and demands of AFL as the problem, it's not going to get any easier for him. I can't see other clubs taking the same risk as we did, especially after he's let another club down already. Very few people get one opportunity like this, let alone two.

He didn't draft himself. If you're going to blame anyone, blame your club for picking him ahead of more dedicated youngsters.

He joins the likes of Tom Swift as a player to not fulfil their god-like potential.

Swift at least tried, unfortunately had so many injuries after the U16 carnival. Can't say Swift didn't try though!
