Not at all, we fully accept that and if GC decide to go that way thats fine Ablett won't play for geelong.

All we are arguing is a) GC do not have a strong hand to try and get geelong to trade anything significant for him (which is true)

and b) it would be pretty stupid to push him into retirement unless they have a prior agreement will the afl that the whole 1mil in 2018 wont be included in their cap. They are better to trade him for pick 88 just to get some of his salary off their books.

I used the word 'plenty' as it's unfair to label all of any club supporters when there are usually quite a few on any side who think more objectively. Obviously yourself and some others are approaching the situation with more maturity & rationale than just emotive one side bias for a champion of your club. It really just depends on all parties coming together, I don't think any party has an overly strong hand in this one so Geelong will need to give something up (personally I don't think a lot but not just a nothing player - draft pick ok too as you mentioned), Gold Coast let Ablett go and he himself take a massive paycut as its ridiculous to think Gold Coast will strengthen another side and pay for it to happen, that's just utterly ridiculous as this isn't a case where they are trying to offload to save salary cap. Who knows if it will happen. In the mean time hopefully Ablett can just do as he said and play football.

Only Carey and Matthews can be spoken in the same breath as Ablett snr. If you didn't see him play then you have no idea what he could do. He changed games, he did things no other player could do, one time he kicked 5-11 against the Dogs, sounds bad doesn't it? No, he got foot to ball, either side of his body like no other player could do and had shots that scored from impossible situations. This while playing as a wingman/half forward. He never went permanently to Full Forward until he was 31 yrs old and then kicked 100 goals a season the next three years consecutively. We are talking super - elite here.
Seen him play heaps. Would rather Carey, Matthews, Lockett and Voss over him anyday.

After Ablett racked up 49 possessions against you in 2013 in their first ever win over a top 8 side Macaffer went out there to limit him and limit him he did. As for not calculated, Macaffers job that day was to stop Ablett by any means necessary so it was definitely calculated to rough him up.

True O'Dea and Greening was nasty, but a dog is a dog. Staker did not suffer any permanent issues after but Barry Hall was still a dog for what he did too yes?

And I guarantee if some tagger ruined Scott Pendlebury in the same way as Ablett now looks gone the hatred for said tagger would most certainly exist from Pies fans....
For the love of God. Injuries happen in football. It wasn't a great tackle, but it was hardly a dog hit. Ablett may well have returned to his best of he wasn't so squeamish about painkillers and surgery. It was his fault he left Geelong, it was his fault he's been sitting on the sidelines, refusing injections and earning his millions doing SFA. Why do we have to feel sorry for him?

Not saying anyone should feel sorry for a man who pretty much has everything he wants, moreso sorry for the fans who may have just seen something even better then he had already produced. Nobody likes to see any player injured, well most people dont, and Ablett is not the only one whose career has been cut short, but doesnt mean Macaffers tackle was meaningless either.

You say this like he's a national treasure or something. He's a footy player. Possibly the best one ever, but he sure as hell isn't any more.

Hows GC are run, propped up or mismanaged has nothing to do with this. Gaz signed a contract, then signed a contract for 5 years which he saw out, and then signed a contract extension! When you sign with a club, especially one that is struggling, you weigh the risks you won't have success, or they might sack the coach, or even that the club goes under.

You are making the claim that because he was once the best he should be treated special? All of this sounds like you are still offended he bailed on your club to earn more money. Move on, he's acting like a child.
Russian Demon is right. Some people here saying Gary is a "broken man." Broken people are those who are homeless, who have last loved ones through tragedy, who have lost hope. Gary is a football player. He has earnt millions of dollars playing football and done very well. Good luck to him. There are millions of people who have family issues, not just Gaz. Gold Coast have every right to hold him to his contract, they have lost many players before. If Gaz wants to return home maybe he should just retire, or play for someone else besides Geelong.

This is what i don't get, he takes a "Godfather" like offer that nobody and i mean nobody would refuse. He then becomes the face of a newly founded club, he then performs for that club like no other player in history from 2011-2014.
There has never been a player who was so dominant in our competition for so many seasons who clearly was at the top of his game with daylight before the rest, yet at age 32, playing with injury and at a club that has seen all of his replacements now at other clubs, he is to blame for their failure? he is being ridiculed? he is doing SFA earning his millions? It's not his fault that the "Bums" have mismanaged themselves, It's not his fault that the "Blacktowners" are favourites for the flag in 2017 and they have lost players too!
No, the fault lies with the Gold Coast and the AFL, not Gary Ablett jr. He will probably retire and be lost to the game prematurely, those who object to his wish to be traded back to Geelong are more worried about his impact back there than anything else. While he languishes at the "Bums" he is no threat. Get him playing along side "DangerWood" and fans will shit themselves!
Now there in lies the truth.

Captain of 3 premierships and a brownlow tells me you've missed the bus....

Ablett snr was the most exciting player this game has ever seen, miraculous beyond compare, devastating in performance. Explosive, fast, could kick 60 metres either side of the body, and a spectacular mark.
It's okay to have a different opinion, i'll stick to mine based solely on his football skills, while others can be critical of other factors, tread carefully in that department.

I'm more than happy for Gaz to go back to Geelong. I'd very much like to see it, to be honest. I just hate the idea that Geelong don't want to give up anything, and suggesting that Ablett should be entitled to the rest of his GC salary if he goes.

I don't see why we should have to do that, aside from sparing your feelings. He should still be in jail today.

No one is blaming Ablett for ALL of the Gold Coasts problems, there's a plethora of things that have gone into their woes. I'm yet to see a serious answer from you about the fact Ablett PUSHED for a longer contract and SIGNED it of his own free will. Why should he just be allowed to walk? Do you live in a world where legally binding contracts and commitments don't stand for anything? This is a professional sport not some amateur hand shake league. I'm not saying it's a great situation merely it's ridiculous to lay all the blame on Ablett or the Gold Coast as there's error on all parties here.

Why, the truth is the truth, people can say what they want.

No doubt it will be a very difficult deal if it were to happen. Geelong will do it because it will sell memberships, the ground will be packed and as a marketing exercise you would be mad not too...The romance and theatre of it all would have Brian Cook salivating right about now...

GAJ can forego the $1 million left in his contract for 2018 but it makes absolutely no sense for Geelong to trade anything higher in value than what the Eagles gave up for Mitchell who is about a year older than GAJ but still in fairly good physical condition playing at a level relatively near his best footy. That's not the case with GAJ so I don't know why non Geelong supporters think the Suns are entitled for something more.

Geelong are not the ones who are desperate to get GAJ back to Geelong. This is something that both the Suns and GAJ have to come to an agreement, nothing more nothing less.

Once that's done then Geelong will enter the fray and facilitate the deal. But under no circumstances is Geelong in a situation where we have to barter for GAJ as this is a mere romantic gesture on our part and stand to lose nothing if it falls through. *shrugs*

The ball is both the Suns and GAJ court, we'll be just fine whatever happens.

GA Senior better than Matthews? LOL.
He's not even in Lockett's postcode. LOL.
Dunstall better kick, better lead, better clubman. LOL.
Voss was better. Carey was better.

Your on the same drugs as GA Senior......

It's all part of it. He was a selfish player as well. I still think he was behind Carey, Voss, Matthews etc. Just my opinion though, but some morons (not you) get personal about it.

Just your opinion??? You tried to prove that my opinion was wrong by listing the players you think were better than Ablett Snr in your opinion. And you got personal with me because you disagreed with my opinion. Were you dropped on your head as a baby?

You're really not very bright, are you?

And then you got upset with someone else for getting personal with you (something about your mother, if memory serves). Hypocrite!

P.S. LOLOLOLOLOL

He's certainly copping a lot of flack if he isn't getting the blame? Of course he's getting the blame, the media and fans are looking for a scapegoat for the failure of the whole damn fiasco. The AFL won't put their hand up, except they send Mark Evans up there to keep an eye on things. The "Bums" started one year earlier than GWS and secured the best player in the competition for a mountain of money, all the hypocrites on here then call him moneybags, i defy anybody to refuse a deal like that. Gold Coast then manage to virtually lose all the first round draft picks to other clubs and the team stagnates while the AFL bring in the GWS "Blacktowners" and they are now premiership favourites within a few short years! Ablett gets injured and the "Bums" fall away...bingo let's blame him! There are no errors on the Ablett side of things IMO. Sure, i think he made a huge mistake leaving a successful, established club, but the offer was too good to refuse, i believe had he stayed at Geelong we would be talking about the most decorated player in football history. 4 or 5 Brownlows, probably another 2 Flags? The Gold Coast disaster should be wiped at the end of this season and re-located to Hobart as the Tasmanian "Devils".
What football fans are really worried about is Ablett playing for a good team, while he stays at the "Bums" he is no threat to anybody!

I've seen media bashing the Gold Coast's recruiting, management, coaching, fitness staff and yet you're just cherry picking the Ablett stuff because you're clearly emotional about him. Yet again you've totally ignored the key point to spew out the same "best player in the comp" argument which is totally irrelevant when you are talking about LEGAL CONTRACTS. Ablett CHOSE to go there, he CHOSE to STAY there and yet you have some inability to accept that peoples actions have consequences, Ablett made his decision there was no one forcing him.
