Not at all, we fully accept that and if GC decide to go that way thats fine Ablett won't play for geelong.
All we are arguing is a) GC do not have a strong hand to try and get geelong to trade anything significant for him (which is true)
and b) it would be pretty stupid to push him into retirement unless they have a prior agreement will the afl that the whole 1mil in 2018 wont be included in their cap. They are better to trade him for pick 88 just to get some of his salary off their books.
I used the word 'plenty' as it's unfair to label all of any club supporters when there are usually quite a few on any side who think more objectively. Obviously yourself and some others are approaching the situation with more maturity & rationale than just emotive one side bias for a champion of your club. It really just depends on all parties coming together, I don't think any party has an overly strong hand in this one so Geelong will need to give something up (personally I don't think a lot but not just a nothing player - draft pick ok too as you mentioned), Gold Coast let Ablett go and he himself take a massive paycut as its ridiculous to think Gold Coast will strengthen another side and pay for it to happen, that's just utterly ridiculous as this isn't a case where they are trying to offload to save salary cap. Who knows if it will happen. In the mean time hopefully Ablett can just do as he said and play football.
