First point is spot on and one many are forgetting. They can only target 1 uncontracted player. If they want other players they have to trade for them, like every other club, hence being given picks 1-5, 7, 9 etc. They can on trade those picks for players.
Naita may just change that second bolded point 15yr.
NicNat is exciting. I will be back for about 6 eagles games in the middle of the year so i will be able to watch him play hopefully.
But i meant favourites not as in premiership favourites but as in the clubs the AFL want to help out to move back up the ladder such as Victorian clubs who have been down for a fair while and are in dager of bankruptcy like Melbourne or victorian clubs with large latent supporter bases who are far more likely to turn up at games and get general attendance figures swelling when the team is winning such as Richmond and Carlton. I could see the AFL bending the rules to over compensate them just as they bent the rules beyond recognition with 3rd party payments with the Judd/Visy deal to help Carlton get him.
For the reason stated above i think the eagles may be relatively happy of GC17 do go after one of our second tier younger players such as McKinley, Spangher, Schofield etc because even if the compo we get doesn't real fit the value of the player lost it would effectively give us an insurance policy against the loss of tier 1 younger players like NcNat, Shuey, Swift etc and also prevents those players and others using real or suspected and rumoured GC17 interest in them to up the price in their next contract. The insurance would be worth the cost.
