I know our very own OMNIPOTENT has whacked a fair few A-grade sixes on pretty much every ground.

Lancefield legend Miles Johnstone would have done so in his hey day too.

Of the modern players, the Marsh's Huddle would be close.

Mick Porter was known for whacking them over fences too when he was an A-grader.

Yeah yeah yeah, correct every ground, been there done that, all just a vague distant memory now ! :(

Played in Omni's side CC's one year played against Fitzroy, Watts boys etc shit they could play.(best game of cricket I have been involved in).

Its a pity this isn't still on all the GDCA teams on the hill at Sankey drinking pi55 with "friendly banter" was a ball. 7.30 start in the morn ment there was some interesting innings late in the day. Some off the biggest 6's I have seen were at those days.

Game before was better pal..... CCs v Romsey. 198 off 10 (8 ball) overs remember ?

Last over bowled by Redbacks...... w,6,6,6,6,6,6,w.

Dare say Johnny Tadd ,Benny Ficnerski and Rod Clifford would have hit there fair few on most grounds

In terms of biggest hitters one name comes to mind that Karl Truscott he has hit sixes on a number of grounds large or small. He has hit many a bowler over the clarke oval fence (mid wicket boundary) and also over the club rooms at maddingly park and onto the rail line. He also hit a six at rupos no.2 ground that ended up in the creek. He could do it against any bowler fast or slow. I agree mick lane big hitter, huddle, axe from macedon and there is a guy from wallan that had one eye he could hit a ball.

Well done to Romsey for beating Hesket, did it on the last ball of the night... Hesket seem to crumble in the tight games, i'd say it stems from their leaders. If i had to pin-point the reason they lost, it would be a ****** keeper (bring back Speed Hump, much better than the Speed Camera just watching it go by) and stupid field placings in the last couple of overs. Will be interersting to see if Romsey change the team for Woodend as it looked like mainly D graders with a few Macs in there. Any results from the South Division?

A couple of things though,

- It was getting a bit dark at 8, maybe starting at 5:30 instead of 6 would get the game finished a bit earlier. They used a Whte Ball which was good, although Romsey wore white shirts...

-No point having the next batsman at square leg, most times you are still waiting for the batsman running on to get to square leg. Just have them waiting on the sideline ready to go, really you are only saving 20 secs max.

- No point having a long break in between innings, because its played at later in the day, it was quite comfortable and no-one looked puffed. Its only 20 overs...

I'm Superchafe, and thats my Take.

Its not the leaders who are the problem, its the players who think they are leaders. Was a great night and hoping it will continue in seasons to come, maybe a change of format though, like u said an earlier start time would be good and no white shirts especially if using the white ball. Well done romsey good luck against the woodend hicks.

Some interesting thoughts, though i think you failed to mention that with Romsey needing 24 runs with 5 overs to go Hesket were burried, and that smart field placings and tremendous fielding got them back into a winning position.
Also Superchafe you failed to mention the shocking umpire decision that allowed Romsey to win the game. A no ball called after an amazing catch was made. How can it be deemed a full toss when the batsmen charges down the pitch and hit the ball exactly waste high.
Just wondering though will Woodend play the game in a sporting nature and allow everyone to bowl like Romsey did?

Woodend play the game in a sporting nature??? are u kidding georgie rio? Will be full of macintyre players seeking glory against mostly lower grade romsey team. Good luck to them, also that no ball call in the third last over from romsey was a joke.

Yes but at Woodend you can be playing d grade one week and the Macs the next week, so it would be very hard for them to field a side that doesn't include all 1st team players. I just hope that the all round ability of Tapas is acknowledged and he is the first player on the team sheet, or is he just all round.

Average Catch (Romsey catch was way better) , Amazing Celebration... Although i would like to see the replay of when his hand went out for the no-ball call...

As for field placings, you did the right thing by bringing the field in, i'm just a little unsure why you didn't at least have a sweeper on each side just incase they got it through (or over). In the last over it would have at least stopped 5 runs... and may have also got you a wicket.

For the sporting nature of Woodend, its basically whoever can play. I think at least half the team will be d graders or d grade standard. As for Tapas, probably going to have dinner with his mum or something.

As a bit of a gauge to the strength of our team, the Trout is playing...

I do hear he likes his dinner

Except for K.Barker. He's a git, feel free to unleash...

Do you know Kev? Or are you one of these hacks you mention who likes bagging blokes from afar.
He may not be everyone's cup of tea on the ground, but I've always found him good value to have a beer with when stumps are drawn. Maybe you just can't handle the play hard but leave it on the ground type of philosophy. Most softies can't.
And there is no denying that Barker on song is a very dangerous cricketer.

Was amazing to see Trevor Shipp get hit for 102 on the weekend. That serves the old @#$% right for bowling 35 overs and not let any of his team mates have a bowl. Tylden mate 223 against the unbeaten macedon side and Rodney Cliffo got 85. should have made 200. Hope tylden get trevor out for a golden and take the 6 points!!

I do know Kev, and he is a champion bloke as well as a first rate cricketer. Was just having a laugh...

Not putting whole game down to one ball but. he did dance down the pitch, he hit it below waist height and the ump didnt call no ball until it was caught. Seems to happen alot in the gdca, wides no balls etc that are not there. Alot of the people who walk out to umpire try to get themselves involved way too much in games. Good luck to romsey tomorrow night, hop[e they can beat a stacked woodend team.

Its a shame neutral umpires cant be put in place, as the odd bad decision can easily change a game.
I hear Tapas is not the flavour of the month
