That's also because the other ruckman was Blake. Who exactly were Collingwood's ruckman that night by the way? Can anyone even remember their names? There is a reason why Ottens slaughtered it that night.

Blake had been rested by the last few rounds, mainly to get King up to scratch. By the Prelim, he was well below his own best, and he had a poor game, low confidence, low game time.

Guy Richards/ Chris Bryan, iirc. Richards was as poor as Blake that night.
Ottens' best ever game for us.

Pretty sure Jolly played in that game, hardly a hack.

Sigh I wasn't even trying to lure you with that comment. Blake for you is like necter to a bee isn't it. :D

Just saying as I saw it back then. His game v Tigers at Geelong late 07 was good, really good, scored 2 goals, then he was "rested", and said himself, "they know what they're doing, but I wasn't tired." His form never recovered, meanwhile, King was getting games, after all season out injured. When Blake returned, he was poor.
What's the problem there?

Blake discussion in the 2013 draft thread. Amazing how these threads can diverge.

For what its worth Blake had heap of time to get good, and in the end time ran out. He was fair but in the end nothing more than a fair tap ruck. And I suspect he was not the most popular player at the club , perhaps if he was more popular he would have made 100 games.Still I think he played well for us in the 09 GF , more than earned his spot.

That's true had some important touches in a tight last quarter.

Nothing wrong with it. I just found it amusing. Most players would benefit from a couple of weeks rest at the end of the season. Particularly ruckman. A couple of weeks out of the seniors did wonders for Blake at the end of the 2009 season. When he came back he was probably in the best form of his career.

Yep, but in 07, he had just hit form and confidence, and was only ever on the last part of everyQ, so his workload was not great, but with King becoming available, things changed, and he just did not need a lengthy break. Doesn't matter, King , over the course of his career deserved a chance at a flag, but I was just trying to explain, possibly, what transpired in 07, to answer the query about our rucks v Pie rucks in 07 Prelim.
09 may well have been true, but that year, Blake had carried the ruck work, in 07, he was emerging.

Lucky TV didn't play in the 07 GF or this thread would take another turn. :)

Blake was fine at the end of 07 with one exception.
Rnd 21 (or whatever) vs Port.
He was monstered.

Still say that if we'd played most other sides in the GF he wouldn't have been dropped.
They just couldn't afford to allow the possibility of him being monstered again.

It was a harsh call, but it was correct.
