Geelong Dynasty - Dynasty? What Dynasty?

Mike Sheahan already called us the best side of the past 20 years. Not endorsing the bloke, but it's getting put out there.

But really, Brisbane are just a boring interstate side, we don't really consider you part of the proper competition. It's better for everyone that you've gone back to being shitkickers.
Ouch, but seriously that didn't hurt.

You'll probably be remembered as the Father/Son side of the naughties.

Not our fault that the other team teams that have access to F/S picks breed spuds or don't get the best out of them.
Other significant F/S...J. Brown, Richo, Darcy, Raines, Kennedy, Waite, etc etc etc. The list really does go on and on.

We just have better sperm and coaches. Get over it.

In the last 30 years there are only 2 sides that could lay claim to any sort of football dynasty.

1) Hawthorn 1983-91. 8 GF appearances 5 flags, back to back 1988-89.

2) Brisbane 2001-04. 4 GF appearances 3 flags in a row 2001-03.

This Geelong side is a slightly above average premiership side when compared to the premiership teams of the past. I fear that they will be quickly forgotten over the next decade if they cannot win it this year.

Again, im not complaining about it, just putting out a perception.

You do.

Na, had to look it up was the first one I saw. There are plenty more, I remember reading that 28 or so teams have equalled or bettered your current run in terms of flags.

Winning multiple flags these days is a lot harder than it was in the 80s.

No one cares about Hawthorn anymore for a reason.

Geelong have dominated the last few years and when they win the flag this year they will be considered a dynasty. They have dominated both home and away and September like no team before. Lions were good but never dominated home and away like the Cats, plus the fact they were over the cap for all of their flags. The only decent thing to do is hand back the flags Brisbane!

Do you speak paragraphs without breathing?

I counted 4... :)

They were also awkwardly unpunctuated sentences.
I wouldn't say it was awkward at all. The longest sentence is broken up by a comma, the rest are fairly short. I wouldn't call that a particularly long paragraph at all.

Leigh Matthews said in the preview to the Geelong-Essendon game in Round 1 this year that the current Geelong side is the best side he's seen while he's been involved in football.

Now here's a guy who played with Hawthorn in the 1970's and early 80's and coached the famed Brisbane sides earlier this century, yet he thinks the current Geelong side tops the lot. :thumbsu:

The general public see the Brisbane/Fitzroy representative team that won 3 flags while gouging on the AFL handouts and allowances for what it really was.

The same Leigh Matthews has also stated that Lance Franklin is the best player he has ever seen.

It's funny how you morons are selective as to what quotes you will give credit too though.:thumbsu:

Do you subscribe to both comments or neither?

Neither at this stage.

Wayne Carey and Gary Ablett Sr are the best players I have seen. Franklin has an awful long way to go to be even mentioned in the same sentence as those guys. I look forward to seeing just how close he can get as his career continues.

The Hawthorn side circa 1983-1991 is the best side, hands down that I have seen. And I say that without a hint of bias. Geelong would need another 3-5 years of sustained success to get close to that side.

I would agree that the Hawthorn success of the 80s-90s is the longest dynasty of the modern era, closely followed by Brisbane's.
FWIW, I feel a flag in 2010 would put Geelong at least on a par with Brisbane. Possibly slightly ahead, because of win/loss ratio and the fact that it is a very "home-grown list" without the aid of extra salary cap or mergers, not that that is a really big deal for me. I think while crediting what we have been able to achieve in this age of socialist footy/drafts and equalisation, ultimately it's just about how well the team played over a sustained period.
2 more years of excellence and at least 2 flags in the next 3 years (including 2010) and I think we have to be in the conversation with Hawthorn's era. HUUUGE ask though, with the salary cap, GC and GWS coming in! But that Cats train just keeps a-rollin' on...

But TBH i could give a rats what you call it, Dynasty or not. Fact of the matter is the way Geelong play now is the BEST brand of football I have ever seen. They went against the grain of the rubbish football teams like Sydney & WC were playing in the mid 2000's & made footy exciting again - something that other teams have tried & some successfully to emulate like the Hawks 2008 (the midget clarko said it in his speech).

I understand the OP is probably a little worried - thinks that the Bears domination will be surpassed. Have a cry - no one cares about what YOU think is considered a dynasty. No one cares about your s#it team either. You were given a boost to the top of the league you didn't earn it & now you're back where you belong! Just be thankfull Brian Brown played 51 games for Fitzroy & not 2 less because then JB WOULD have been in the blue & white hoops :(

Dynasty Schmynasty - Geelong 2007-2010 play the greatest brand of modern day* football, end of story.

*Hawthorn 80-90's were amazing....much respect!:thumbsu: Pity they are Shit now :p
