Play Nice Geelong home final at GHMBA Stadium, is this an unfair advantage?

The core principle for finals was always neutrality; crowds were a secondary factor.

It was always about the best, fairest spectacle possible.

No one wants finals played on a crapheap with a 7 goal wind in front of 15,000 home supporters. We want the best possible venue. People dream of playing finals at the MCG in the same way they dream of playing golf at Augusta. It’s the pinnacle of the sport. No one dreams of playing finals at Kardinia Park (or Princes Park, the Western Oval or whatever the dump GWS play on is called)

Home finals have never been a part of the sport. Finals have always been played at the best and biggest ground available. For the grand final that’s the MCG. For everyone else it is the biggest ground in their home state.

The idea that anyone ‘earned a home final’ is a recent myth trotted out mostly by Geelong people who aren’t satisfied with suddenly getting 10 home games and 6 neutral games in a comp where no one else has even remotely the same advantage (and the only other comparable team was railroaded out of that advantage by the league 15 years ago)

What would a Carlton supporter know about finals? 😉

A home final is a myth?? Hahahahahahahaha oh mate, tht takes the cake.

I'll ask again because I'm starting to feel like I'm talking to politicians...what and how would you react if say coll finished 1st, wce 4th and you were told you would play wce in perth? This is the point...if you wouldnt put up with being treated like that, why should we?
I just gave you the AFL regulations.

There is no such thing as a ‘home final’.

It is hard trying to communicate to people who won’t/can’t actually read the regulations as they are written.

The point is there is no such thing as a ‘home final’, never has been.

I'll have to ask some non Victorians how they feel about home finals being a ""myth"".

If you finish 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th, you deserve a home final, not a home state final, a home GROUND final. Rules shouldn't be different for Geelong. I hate backing up Geelong, but it is completely unfair that they don't receive the same treatment as the other clubs who earn home finals.

So a team that plays at a ground 14 times a year is neutral to a team that plays there 5 times.

Railroaded by their own members,

They get a home State final, as per regulations.

Just like all Victorian teams also enjoy.

I'll go again and we will see if you have the guts to answer truthfully..

GWS just got a home state final at the 24,000 capacity spotless stadium instead of being forced to play at the SCG where the capacity is larger.

A rather large contradiction by the AFL.
No it's not. AFL policy is not largest stadium, it's best fit stadium based on demand. All Bulldogs and Giants fans who want to go to the game will get a ticket. The 3 other finals have a 1 ticket per member limit. This game you can buy 8 tickets per member!

What are you on about?
You aren’t playing in Perth
You are playing at the best venue in Victoria, like all victorian teams do.

It is finals in a national competition, we don’t want finals at shitty little suburban Victorian stadiums.

That last comment says it all and typically you did not answer the question!

How would you react if coll had to play an away final even if you earnt the home final???....

Imagine Collingwood played all their home games at a renovated Victoria Park that held 45,000, and very rarely lost there,
and just played at the MCG a few times a year. Would they be OK with moving a home final that they had earned by
finishing first on the ladder against Richmond (who came 4th on the ladder) to Richmond's home ground (the MCG)
where Collingwood's record wasn't so good so that more people (Richmond fans mostly) could go to the game?
Ffs you don't earn home finals, comp has never worked that way

Railroaded by their own members,

When the team play 14 games there but don’t train on the ground, have their home facilities, etc?

It’s a totally different sort of advantage to a team playing at what is, by AFL standards, a glorified training centre.

And the hurt for Carlton supporters about getting railroaded out of Princes Park is still raw enough that it’s not even worth joking about. There’s absolutely no justification for playing games at KP and not PP other than different AFL commission attitudes and the relative bargaining power of the clubs at the time in question.

There's no situation possible in which Collingwood, finishing 1st for example, would have to play at a) an away venue (if such a venue exists anymore for us with our away record) and b) an inferior stadium with barely enough room to fit it's own team's supporters.

Either way we would be focused on winning the game. Who cares what happens in one week of finals, just win the bloody thing and it won't matter!
With the GF to stay at the MCG, teams should be trying to get as much experience on the ground as possible.

Arguably a better venue than KP if it were upgraded for 10k+ more seats due to it's proximity to the city. Would go there any day, plus it's potential for expansion.

You don’t ‘earn’ a ‘home final’.

Read the finals regulations!

Collingwood have a better record away from the G than at it anyway, and a horrendous GF record...we would be better off playing anywhere but the G.

I thought Bucks raised a good point on Talking Footy this evening about home ground advantage in that Victorian teams essentially don’t get any advantage because we all share the same home ground.

If Richmond finish first and Collingwood finish fourth then where is the advantage then? Given that we have ten Victorian teams that all play home games at the MCG, it’s statistically more likely for a Victorian team finishing first or second to not get any advantage at all?

Are wce having an away/neutral game against Ess in 2 weeks also? I won't ask what your iq is with logic and reason like that!
WC finished 5th, they get a final in WA as a result.

Geel finished 1st, they get a final in Vic as a result + the double chance.

The following week, Geelong will once again get a final in Vic as a result of being the losing QF team...and play either WC or Essendon.
