Was there really a need for that ?People are on average spending $50 each on food and drink? Assuming mark up is double.
Geelong the fat alcoholic capital of Australia ?
Plus merchandise at the shop. It’s like a Boxing Day sale on game dayPlus alcoholic drinks which would have a fair mark up as well
Even COLA was mismanaged by the AFL. Instead of giving the Swans an extra 10% cap space, they should have just paid each player 10% on top.of their contract wage.Tbf if Sydney didn’t abuse the COLA allowances to give Buddy a massive contract rather than spreading the allowance like it it meant to be used there wouldn’t had been a problem.
They made their own bed doing that

Years and years ago Ling was commenting on a game and was teased by the other former players about his $1 pub.
Its not new. The AFL doesnt care as long as the media doeant care. And the media are controlled by getting extra Grand Final tickets for behaving.
All that happens is that more clubs do it, making a farce out of the cap.
So this really isnt about Scott. Its about how now all clubs will do it more brazenly.
Was there really a need for that ?
There is a lot of jealousy from the smaller Vic clubs towards Geelong. They all gave away their home grounds and went to Docklands or the MCG, and signed shitty contracts. Meanwhile Geelong invested in their once shitty stadium, and turned it into a great boutique ground, which they make alot of money from, and have a very strong home ground advantage with.Geelong has all the catering business at the ground which makes them money as well and less split with opposition team …it’s been well documented that the profit for each home game is over $1 million why would the club want less home games ?
The MCG has a split revenue with lower gate revenue for opposition clubs and no shared profits for the catering and the likes at the ground
This idiot take needs to be nipped in the bud
While I don’t doubt that ‘deals’ etc go on, do people actually take these “admissions” seriously? Like when Bryan Fletcher - the ex-Roosters player - talks about how Uncle Nick Politis used to pay him with cash in a brown paper bag do people think that’s a real admission that he was paid with cash in a brown paper bag or do you think it’s a humorous acknowledgement of the stigma that Roosters players are allegedly paid with cash in brown paper bags?

Obviously you have it wrong as it is well documented the profit for the club with playing at the MCG is well below that of a home game at KPMore just calling out the claim.
Home team clubs get a cut of signage, gate takings and food at the G as well, dont they? Obviously a smaller amount because the MCG gets its cut but its not like its 100% vs 0%.
Gate takings would be huge at the MCG too, given 1/3 to 1/2 of those at the game are opposition, vs maybe 5,000 at Geelong.
As many are saying, the finance guys at Geelong may get told to pretend its a bad deal but secretly they want the huge MCG games.
Geelong absolutely wants 11 games at Kardinia, and the financial windfall to the club from 40k at home is better than 80k at the G due to the ground ownership.
I personally think it should had been given to those on a rookie or lower wage , Syd on paper did the smart thing in abusing the system they just got caught out because the AFL wanted Buddy to go to GWS.Even COLA was mismanaged by the AFL. Instead of giving the Swans an extra 10% cap space, they should have just paid each player 10% on top.of their contract wage.
Full control at the stadium where all profits from merchandise, catering and alcohol with more control over tickets splitting revenue vs locked in contract with the MCG with lower leavage for gate splitting and less revenue splitting from all other services
Here was a quote from 2009 by former Cats CEO, Brian Cook,(when GMHBA was known as Skilled Stadium):
Big Footy is an eco chamber. I’m sure everyone believes it on the Geelong board but it makes zero sense. Geelong would be the richest club in the land if they make nearly double that of an 80k stadium for home games. How many times does this have to be answered before people hear it?
It's absolutely true. To quote Brian Cook in a submission to Parliament:
So more money from the G back then, per head means stuff all. It's absolutely true. To quote Brian Cook in a submission to Parliament:
...at Skilled Stadium when you have a capacity of 25,000, we make a net profit in that game of $638,000 per game, which is $26 per head. If we have a crowd of 85,500 at the MCG, which we did have against Collingwood in 2007, we brought home $771,000, which was $9 a head. Importantly, Telstra, now Etihad Stadium, with a near capacity of 46,000, we brought home $293,000, which is $6 a head.

Yeah the club just cooks it’s book and lies to it’s shareholders and breaks the law for shits and gigglesBig Footy is an eco chamber. Collingwood don’t even average 80k yet Geelong are raking in the cash like they have 130k attending each week.
Yeah, sounds legit.
The football club did, the State Government did, the AFL did, the Federal Government did, and the Geelong council did.The football club did or the state government did?
Mate, if we play Collingwood at Kardinia now, we are pulling in a LOT more than 25,000 people. So more money from the G back then, per head means stuff all.
I bet you don't believe man walked on the Moon, or that former Prime Minister, Harold, Holt drowned at Cheviot Beach. So more money from the G back then, per head means stuff all.
So what did the upgrades cost to go from 25k to 40k and surely the government are now recouping that via the stadium deal. It’s not the same as 15 years ago.
LOL you have to kidding from seeing the your Fremantle supporter this how it works. So more money from the G back then, per head means stuff all.
