I gotta say I don’t really understand why - in the example 40k at home v 80k away. The 40k would predominantly be Geelong members who have already paid for their seat. 80k away you’re getting all the away and neutral supporters. Wouldn’t they be making more money on tickets?

Geelong has all the catering business at the ground which makes them money as well and less split with opposition team …it’s been well documented that the profit for each home game is over $1 million why would the club want less home games ?

The MCG has a split revenue with lower gate revenue for opposition clubs and no shared profits for the catering and the likes at the ground

Its not new. The AFL doesnt care as long as the media doeant care. And the media are controlled by getting extra Grand Final tickets for behaving.

All that happens is that more clubs do it, making a farce out of the cap.

While I don’t doubt that ‘deals’ etc go on, do people actually take these “admissions” seriously? Like when Bryan Fletcher - the ex-Roosters player - talks about how Uncle Nick Politis used to pay him with cash in a brown paper bag do people think that’s a real admission that he was paid with cash in a brown paper bag or do you think it’s a humorous acknowledgement of the stigma that Roosters players are allegedly paid with cash in brown paper bags?

Home team clubs get a cut of signage, gate takings and food at the G as well, dont they? Obviously a smaller amount because the MCG gets its cut but its not like its 100% vs 0%.

Gate takings would be huge at the MCG too, given 1/3 to 1/2 of those at the game are opposition, vs maybe 5,000 at Geelong.

As many are saying, the finance guys at Geelong may get told to pretend its a bad deal but secretly they want the huge MCG games.

Carlton in the 90s were done in by someone admitting to getting extra pay, which led to the investigation which found rampant rorting.

Obviously you have it wrong as it is well documented the profit for the club with playing at the MCG is well below that of a home game at KP

...at Skilled Stadium when you have a capacity of 25,000, we make a net profit in that game of $638,000 per game, which is $26 per head. If we have a crowd of 85,500 at the MCG, which we did have against Collingwood in 2007, we brought home $771,000, which was $9 a head. Importantly,Telstra, now Etihad Stadium, with a near capacity of 46,000, we brought home $293,000, which is $6 a head. So when you compare a crowd at Skilled of 25,000 compared to Telstra, which is nearly twice as much at 46, you at Skilled bring home to the club $638,000 out of all revenue sources per game and only $293,000 from Telstra.
