While Geelong have some very talented young players, don't u think most of them are getting a bit over rated on this forum. If u wanted Ottens, I reckon Ablett, Ling, Scarlett and Bartel are the only ones u wouldn't consider in order to get him

All I'll say is, I really cant see how they think they have 15 'untouchables', that's a bit steep.

Like you said, Scarlett, Ling, Ablett and maybe Bartel and Kelly would be, but surely others would be up for trade if needed.

Which club would honestly have more than 10?

Agree with Geelong going overboard in classifying their "untouchables".

I remember very well Richmond overrating its list a couple of years ago and look what happened....years of pain.

Sheedy is a good one for Geelong to think about. Always tinkering with the list to improve it. I can tell you that Sheedy would have never had 15 "untouchables" on his list.

Our list of untouchables (regardless of how long or short it is) is not really any concern of anyone outside our club.

We want to keep our list together and really value the group we have now, nothing wrong with that.

That's true, but not many clubs have had success after they've done the same thing - Richmond, Hawthorn and Collingwood come to mind recently..

The way I see it is, Kelly was obviously not missed this year, whereas it's pretty obvious that an Ottens type was.

I don't care either way, and that is a fact, but I would've though that the Cats would be killing for Ottens.

Tenace and 16 would get it done I'd say.

Tiges get two youngsters ready to fire in 2 - years.
Geelong get Gun ready to fire now.

The Geelong boys all started together in the afl and there is such a great atmosphere down there. We don't really want to let someone go for a possible dud forward. We don't want any of the team to go, except rahilly and spriggs.

Well I can tell you now that if the club has the same attitude, you will go backwards very quickly.

when did ottens become a "GUN"....one pretty good season a few years back, a good ordinary footballer as Jack Dyer would have said

Cats go for Lance in the goalsquare and play your youngsters at half forward, will save bucks, keep your list intact and be a better risk to take than an overpaid Ottens

You aren't in a position to judge.

We consider that we have a unique group down there, and unless you experience that you can't really make such a sweeping statement.

In regards to the first post of the thread. People overrating our players on here has absolutely no bearing on anything (unless one of our posters happens to be Brian Cook).

Then you won't be picking up a ready made quality player.

End of story, please no more whinging.

How do you figure that? Collingwood supporters are in a great position to judge. Two GF's in a row, the Pres telling everyone they want to keep and work with their current list, then..............crash.

Please do not tell me that Geelong are in a better poisiton than Collingwood were with the players thay have. Because 2 GF's speak higher than 1 Prelim final.

It does have relevance to this topic, as Geelong fans are seriously over rating your own players, yet then complaining because richmond wont give you a proven quality player on the cheap.

When will people realise!? The opinions of geelong supporters dont reflect those of the people actually organizing trades!
This is just stupidity.

How is he a proven quality player? He has hardly played in the last 2 seasons. There's no certainty about him performing. I'm staring to think the Cats should just go after Whitnall, would get him for an appropriate price, rather than Ottens who Richmond want an arm and a leg for. Ottens has been bagged as being an underperforming hack for the past few years and now he is a proven quality player? Give me a break.

Gee! Maybe that's why he isn't attracting any intrest from Clubs!
Next you'll be saying that Thompson was worth more!

Ottens is bagged by Richmond because he hasnt performed at the level he promised in 2001. Not because he is a hack. The stats below show that he is not a hack.

The points he gave me in fantasy football this year also prove he is not a hack!

I rate both Thompson and Ottens and would have taken either. Thompson has 4 good years left in him, and could be a 50-60 goal kicker.

Spot on there. Part of the reason so many Richmond fans say bad things about Ottens is because he set high expectations in 2001 and hasn't gotten back to that level since. But just because he hasn't played the same way doesn't mean he has been a bad player, this year alone he would still be amoungst the better ruckmen in the league (no, not in the top few so don't start whinging).
