Geelong - Too old, too slow?

Cameron should make a difference but no guarantee that he'll win them games they'd otherwise lose.
He'd have to be sitting on the sideline saying sh*t I may have made the wrong choice picking Geelong.

Geelong must be thinking we gave up 3 first rounders for him and he's injured and our lineup isn't getting any younger. Maybe we stuffed up here and should have invested in Youth that's ok we'll get some in the draft oops we gave our first pick this year to Richmond already.
You guys do know it wasn't just 3 first for Cameron right? We got two second rounders back in this years upcoming draft (GWS, Essendon) that will probably be picks in the mid 20s.

Real test will be when Cameron comes back and whether they move the ball faster with two key targets up forward.

Big problem is they really are slow out of the back half and their small forwards are junk as they do not lock the ball in or rove to Hawkins very well. Myers should be dropped and not let back in until he stops playing for frees and just tries to win the ball.

For a while I've thought the cats don't have enough in the middle age range.

Old blokes are too slow and the young ones can't run out a game. The fitness factor seems more critical to me than pace.

Still they are going ok. On raw talent Melbourne should have comfortably beaten the cats on Sunday, and in the end they did. In recent times the cats have managed to overperform, that's all.

Geelong have a very tough month of May, their season could be over after Sydney, Richmond and St.Kilda all in a row, all away from home. Lose either one of the next two games and it's stumps for 2021?

Silly.

They will win at least 80% of their home games. Will win at least 30% of their away games. That is at least 12 wins.

They will play finals. They may struggle in finals but will get there.

I'm not so sure, you need to look at how good the team is and ignore the overplayed home ground advantage.

Last time Geelong missed the finals they only won 60% of home games. (55% if you include Melbourne home games) and a few KP wins were quite narrow margins.

If Geelong are not up to scratch, they will lose games at home. Simple as that.

They might beat North, but i would have the Eagles as favourites the week after at this stage, then they are looking at 3 losses in a row!

2020 was very kind to them, due to the covid restrictions clubs weren't able to train properly so the teams with the best structures already in place and a massive advantage. Cats and Tigers benefitted the most out of it.

Chris Scott is allergic to line breaking half back flankers.

Touhy - get out of there.
Duncan running from half back - not going to happen.
Smith - ,maybe a change of pace, nope, wing or half forward.
Jordan Clark - plays a debut season like Enright, banished to the 2's and then playing Rohan's role
Mark O'Connor shows a bit of dash - moves on ball.

Tom Atkins looks pretty handy down back but he's hardly a run and carry metres gained type player.

A backline like they had last year - Taylor, Henderson, Bews, O'Connor, Stewart, Henry, Kolodjashnij - just won't provide the run and carry needed to move the ball quickly.

Obviously Taylor has come out now but Blicavs is mixing in ruck and key back. I don't see the need for 4 medium sized lockdown players in Stewart, Henry, Kolo and O'Connor in their best backline.

Personally I'd have Jordan Clark as priority number 1 back there, and probably Touhy as well. If not some kind of rotation of Duncan, Menegola, Smith, Cam Guthrie once the midfield reinforcements come in.

I'd give up a bit of defensive strength to be able to flip the field with counter attack and create some easy ball movement and over the top attacking chances. That gives the small forwards a chance to operate in space and the whole team gets rewarded with some attacking running. The amazing thing about the Cats current game plan is how disciplined they are and how much unrewarded running it takes to play the possession game. Obviously it's great that the players will do that but I can't imagine it's a lot of fun.

And while he's at it he should get a haircut that doesn't make him look like a ****wit.

Well yeah, getting the ball is not an issue in the midfield or defence. But you get the ball and look to go forward and Hawkins is double teamed.....

So (ideally) you can kick to Cameron - but he injured
OK we can kick to Dangerfield - but he suspended
Sigh well I guess we can kick to Rohan - but he suspended
Fine we can kick to Esava - but he injured

Regardless of their goal kicking those players are all strong marking forwards. It is an area of the ground where we are already weak and we have four players who are meant to fill that role unavailable.

On a side note I really don't get the BF hate for our specialist small forward who goes at 15 touches and a goal a game, and has played every game since debut.

Had to check date and make sure it wasn't a bump from 2010 or 2011.

I remember that game against the Dogs when Tim Lane declared the era of domination was over. Geelong then proceeded to peel off 16 or 17 goals straight.

I also remember 2007, round 5, lost at home to North Melbourne to go 2 wins and 3 losses, then pumped Richmond by about 157 points the next week and only lost one more game for the season.

I'm not writing them off yet until they have a full strength side and get a few game together to see if they gel or not. I'm not liking what I'm seeing though.

If they don't win the flag this year, their whole recruiting philosophy will be seen as a huge fail. If it falls over, Scott can piss off with it.

Yes but you lost to Adelaide, you only won against Brisbane because of a really bad umpiring non-call and you just barely beat a team expected to finish bottom 4 by the skin of your teeth. This was a paper over the cracks game, and Geelong are not playing like a premiership contender should be.

Easy Tiger, now they're not, but it's a marathon, not a sprint.

I think most old Geezerlong players struggle to raise a trot let alone a marathon or sprint. Sure no doubt Grohan can sprint but it is usually in the wrong direction.

Not hate but he plays for frees when he has to go get the ball. Its KB like, throws his arms out. There were times when he just had to go and he didn't he played for non existant frees and it needs to be coached out of him. He is getting a of his kicks on the wings, not in the f50.

Agree with comments re talls, I singled out Cameron cos he is a gun.

Yeah fair enough on the frees point. Haven't really noticed it myself but he gets kicks on the wing but that is because the ball movement is slow. Also gets shots at goal, I am just a bit surprised by how much posters from other clubs hate on him. You would think he was the worst player in our team and a huge liability if you read this site and there are a lot of others who should be in the gun before Miers.

Thanks - now I need to go back into therapy again..... :p
