Haven't followed the coaching dramas with GC, but has the double standards regarding holding GAblett to a contract, and then trying to poach a coach under contract been discussed?

Id back them holding Gaz to his contract. He was THE franchise player, the face of the footy club, and the face of footy on the GC, so it was a bit more than the normal playing contract. But all bets would be off in my book if they simply expect they can poach a contracted coach, and then hold Gaz to different standards.

The AFL is going to piss some serious money down the drain with these mugs running the show.

They just raked over old coals like sammy and lewy leaving. Ceos leaving

Missed an opportunity to get some wisdom from the great man

Haven't watched for a while and won't be hurrying back

Sadly it is still one of the better footy related shows out there. That's saying something.

Fair enough. I guess I'm one of the rare breeds from Melbourne that loves Adelaide. Great food, pretty cool nightlife(better than Sydney IMO) and its big enough to have a good time in and small enough to be secluded.

I lived in Gawler for a little while. Couldn't wait to get out. More to do with the company I was working for at the time. So because of that experience has made me bias towards the place.

What did he say? Anything noteworthy?

Nothing noteworthy but geez its great to hear from the great man. He was very diplomatic, never getting angry or seemingly annoyed at being asked about Mitch and Lewis' departure, even though it was almost 12 months ago. Everything he had to say you could tell he was being honest and true to his word. He talked about:
- the mutual disappointment in Vickery's first year
- him taking offers from other clubs every year (which are more 'just put it out there' kinda offers)
- his desire to lay the foundations for the next round/era of success and see it through
- desire to coach overseas in basketball/nfl/soccer/be away from football, with a caveat of 1% chance possibility
- his role always being open to criticism at the club and that for him leaving it would have to be pushed

We are unbelievably lucky to have this guy. If only he had a jumper number I would buy one.

How many times did he say Ummm before starting a sentence?

I used to enter the hawk talk tv competitions with Lehmo and Declan for a signed jumper from last week's guest. I entered 6 times in a row and won it five times. (Used different the names of nephews and my kids so they wouldn't get too disgruntled with this one guy with the incredible wit winning it all the time. :)

But when I won clarko's I was interested in the number it woold carry on the back. Thought it might come with 23 (The number he was at north and at melbourne) But it came numberless.

Not at all but for such an intelligent man the ummms are deplorable.

But hey I'll take him ummms and all.

We all have our verbal crutches - I think it is just because he is a very considered speaker so doesn't want to just answer so goes to the 'ummm' to fill the air. He doesn't seem to do it in prepared speeches from memory. Much like pointing out fans wearing their colours on grand final day - it's just a nice little Clarkoism that I have grown fond of.

Thanks for great summary.

I find it abit disappointing they dont think to ask him about the way the game is changing in terms of strategy, and which direction he thinks it might head next, e.g., taking in 2 Rucks into a game, tagging someone who is essentially playing a defending role (behind the ball), how deep to play forwards, etc. I love that stuff. I know that he would not give too much away in terms of his plans, but he would talk about it and probably say some interesting things. I mean, he has a pretty astute football brain, even for a 4-time premiership coach...

I get so tired of these muppets in football media who get an opportunity to talk to these folks, and then ask questions about rumors and scuttlebutt or things that have happened so far in the past that no-one cares much anymore (Mitchell/Lewis departure).

OK, end of my Tuesday whinge...

The only footy jumper I own is signed by Clarko :)

Some nice soul uploaded the Clarko interview to YouTube:

Thx for putting up A89. What a negative 18 minutes. Like being interviewed by half a dozen death eaters all sucking the joy out of you. Geelong lost Bartel somewhat acrimoniously, Stevie J changed states to keep playing, Chapman and Kelly played on at Essendon. Champs have to be moved on sometimes so lists can grow. Why waste air time on ancient history?

For those who feel a bit peed off after watching that this is more fun. Even though Molloy has a crack it is laced with begrudging respect and fun.

Yes its because Caro is there. I'm no misogynist, but all she brings to the game is gossip. We don't want stupid gossip or scandal.

Caro had it first yesterday about Hinkley staying at Port when News Ltd had run hard that he was signed with the Gold Coast. She also nailed * a good 98% of the time during their scandal. She's a bit joyless on FC, I'll grant anyone that - but I still respect her as a journo. About one of the last ones left worth reading at The Age.
