‘not buying the suburban grounds thing. It means thers no crowd so need to contain costs. Setting up broadcast at a minimum number of grounds will savecosts.
Surely not a big issue considering they play AFLW matches at most suburban grounds and play the marsh cup games all over in feb/march
All of those are televised. Only issue might be the score review but that’s not perfect anyway

I'd go one ground extra to marvel if the MCG is unavailable and its still a fan lock out. Really these are training bases and money would need to be spent unneccesarily to make them playing venues

How good are the lights for night games? etc etc where does all the advertising go without losing the revenue?

I find it amazing that one minute were wringing our hands over staff being sacked and players wages being cut, then getting all excited about unnecccesary spending, when a perfectly good stadium is owned by the AFL
It would need perhaps five games per week. Theres 7 nights available and four day/twilight slots at the weekend - 11 games could be played in fact
If theres still no crowds each club could set up their own base in the entertainment rooms.

They could play the games at anytime, not like everyone has to get up/be at work.

Two would do and probably get rid of boundary riders if you really want to cut costs.

2 commentators, 1 special comments, 1 boundary rider like the old days?

EDIT: probably doesn't matter as much if they're calling games from the studio, rather than live at the venue

Two like they did in the practice match. In fact, those two guys would be better than anything else they have on the books. Maybe bring in a non-playing player from each competing club during the match for 10 mins to share their thoughts. Can’t recall the last time a special comments person added any value.

I know we love to hate them, but this is pure pure class from Essendon

Sorry to be ‘that guy’ but seems like this will open up a can of worms. I mean, why would this one member get their membership paid for and not any of the others that are going through financial hardship? Can guarantee there’d be others in the same boat.

Wouldn‘t surprise me if it was all a PR stunt to get some good publicity for the drug cheats.

If they wanted good publicity, they would have bought them membership for a good club.

As a result of reading this tweet I suspended my hatred of Essendon* for an entire 0.03 seconds. Regular service will now resume, **** the Drug Cheats!

I don’t believe it
How on earth would a player have got involved

I’m with Millsie, it’s a publicity stunt that could open them up to others wanting the same deal - it’s got Dildo’s fingerprints all over it

If we assume it is all legit then it could simply be a genuine nice gesture that wasn't thought through too well. Because of course it would hit social media, and I'd be surprised if it doesn't result in other Essendon members calling in seeking the same treatment. It could even result in members of other clubs calling into their own clubs also hoping to be looked after in kind.

It's a marketing ploy. It just isn't plausible that someone from the membership department would email the players, who are nowhere near the club's membership department, asking if they'd be willing to pay for one struggling supporters membership while conveniently ignoring everyone else's.

Would be simple to offer someone, lets say, a month or quarter of no membership payments if they could post a tweet with no evidence of said email stating that a player offered to pay.

Then the membership department, probably via the media communications department, contact Mitch Cleary to write a story about it. This story, too, shows no evidence of this email stating the player has made an offer to pay. Mitch Cleary, who has a Twitter account, could have easily asked this supporter for a screenshot or forwarded copy of the email to put in the story, but it's conveniently not.

Paints the club in a good light after it leaked out they weren't willing to offer any members membership payment pausing.

With something so easy to provide evidence for it's legitimacy, there appears to be none. hmmmmmm.

I know most of us hate them but If it was a marketing ploy then it was a masterful stroke by the Marketing department especially since what the club has gone through over the last few years.
