If anyone wants a good laugh, have a look at the autopsy thread on the Richmond board this week. I’ve never seen such a paranoid bunch of victims.

First time visiting there? You missed the Jake Aarts abuse in the north Melbourne game (I think) they lost last year

Cause the AFL is a circus. Should just have been for concussion.

If a player is deemed concussed they cannot play for 10 days and the medical sub is activated. You won't be getting liberties with that one.
Agree, no need for tactical subs. If your team has a concussion, sub is used, if not concussion, it's part of the game.

Just regarding the whole McCartin situation, saw on the Swans board someone questioning what compensation the Swans would get if the AFL intervenes.

The Swans make an offer to the player with the highest risk of concussion in the league to play a contact sport (when other defenders are available - no one held a gun to their head and forced them to make this decision), and their fans just expect a handout when the player with the highest risk of concussion might have reached the end of his career, due to an entirely predictable concussion.

And the AFL intervening may save the club millions in entirely predictable future litigation, as some money will likely be paid out by AFL and Swans.

I keep hearing how professional the Swans are, but offering McCartin a contract is their dumbest decision in decades.

If Hawks were in this position, I'd be nauseous at the idea of fielding him 2 years ago, let alone after this weekend.

Couldn't agree more- Swans are unbelievably open to future litigation currently, they should be happy to save face and have the AFL intervene with one of the dodgiest decisions this decade.

Don't hear a thing from them when they're winning but lose and it's JFK level conspiracy theory.
Sad bunch who just embarrass themselves and deserve their reputation.

It's the death knell of a club that has had too much success recently and hasn't been able to plan for the future.
For us it was more obvious, but they're in line for a lot of pain.

Was just checking next week's fixture and I count SIX games at Adelaide Oval next weekend! You reckon the playing surface is going to be pretty tired come Sunday arvo. Les Burdett wouldn't be having a bar of it.

2 games at Norwood oval and one somewhere in "The Hills"?

This whole Gather Round is a bit weird TBH.

I once had a very senior AFL person tell me this would not happen to Richmond, their youth coming through is too good and the club culture and planning is just next level.

lol

Once your superstars fall off a cliff you are screwed.

I cannot believe there is a thread on the main board that Dusty will be the GOAT if Richmond wins another GF and Dusty gets the Norm. Richmond are not making finals again with this group. It is over.

It's so funny- coming from someone who plays a niche sport, teams that rely on their top end for so long- no matter how good their development pathways are- will struggle when their top end retires/pulls out.

Richmond might have good youth, but that youth isn't being exposed to winning a game off their own bat yet, and there's a lot to be said for the build up of dependency clubs have for their stars.
We saw the same thing, Brisbane saw it earlier, Richmond will be no different.

I think the yo-yo strategy is more and more looking like the best way moving forward- no point sitting middle of the table for decades just teasing your fans.

Yo-yo is the only strategy moving forward.

Geelong are the only team in the modern era that have defied this and their circumstances are so unique they are pretty much impossible to repeat;
  • They had two generational talents who were 23(ish) when they won their premiership in 2011 - Selwood and Hawkins
  • They got a top 10 player the comp to join them in Danger
  • They got another top 10 player in the comp to join them in Cameron
And still they only managed one more premiership.

It is stupid hard

Freo look shot.

Weren't they supposedly looking for top 4/flag?
They have a really young list and should really be on the improve. Just not clicking for them this year. They have a ton of young talent just not playing as a team at all this year.

It will be interesting to see if this year or last year was the anomaly.

And nor is it guaranteed. It's why I don't buy into the "just trust the process" stuff. Every club has a plan, and most of those plans will prove unsuccessful in their execution. Coming up with a decent plan or strategy to build a successful team is the easy part - actually executing it is the hard part.

Of course. At this stage though where we are you have to trust the process because when you can't you change the coach

Am I the only one getting more frustrated with the media/pundits using stronger and stronger language, and more definitive language so early in the season?

The hyperbolic media landscape gets more and more difficult to care about/listen to as time goes on.
Each headline needs to be more eye-catching than the one before it to try and draw readers in. It’s only going to get worse from here.

******* hell it's all so predictable...

4 on the bench. Someone has an early injury. That club complains about being a man down and argues for a medical sub.

4 on the bench plus a medical sub. Some club then takes liberties with how they use the medical sub. Clubs complain and say it should just be a tactical sub.

4 on the bench plus a tactical sub. Some club makes their tactical sub and then another of their players is injured. That club complains about being a man down and argues that it shouldn't be a sub and should just be 5 on the bench.

Then they either rinse and repeat from the start but now with extra player they can interchange on the bench, or they do what they did last time and just dump the sub and go back to the original amount of interchange players on the bench.
This post could be fixed by changing the word before "complains" to "a Scott brother"
