I’ve always considered his general strategy a shock tactic. But team grows tired of it and the opposition strategise against it. When he first introduced it, it was novel but he got a few years out of it but he couldn’t win a flag. He went to freo and got it going again on the back of extremely good stoppage players.

This saints side lacks the level of talent of the former saints side and also lacks the dominant stoppage players. Also, coaches now are more tactically aware and have now seen many defensive strategies and broadly know how to counter them. It’s not going to be easy for Ross from here.

Cotchin is one of those vanilla players who after 300 games I still don’t recall any real highlights.
