Well the AFL are addicted to stupid ideas so no doubt it will be.
It will come for the same reason that the NFL, NHL and MLB all introduced the games. Finals games are worth lots of TV cash.
Wildcard games in the NFL and MLB aren't like what is being proposed for the AFL which is more akin to the NBA play-in tournament. Presently expanded playoffs have opened it up to 14 of 32 teams in the NFL. The MLB has 12 of 30 teams. The NHL has 16 of 32 teams. None of those leagues have brought in more than 50% of the league to compete in the playoffs.
I don't agree with it. I'm for fewer teams qualifying, not more. I'm an MLB traditionalist - 162 games and only first place qualifies for the post-season. But the AFL is addicted to cash. Particularly cash in executive and administrative pockets. I have a love/hate relationship with this data:

In the last 10 years, revenue has increased 88%. In contrast...
- Club payouts? Up 62%
- AFLPA payout? Up 28%
- Game development? Up only 25% (!!!!)
- Ground maintenance? 66%
EXECUTIVE and Admin costs? Up 111%. Double the club payout. Quadruple game development.
Operating surplus, or money left after the boy's club and approved ramora-like hangers on get their taste?
* From 63% down to 58%.
The ratio of club payouts to operating expenses?
* From $1 to the club and $0.87 to the AFL, it's now $1.13 to the AFL for every $1 to the club. All that extra revenue has gone to paying one new executive after another (read coaches fired but given made-up jobs in AFL House).
The AFL is very focused on making money. Particularly for those who are in direct employment of it.
Agree. If they want extra games, play a whole extra round.Oh I will never argue with the mentality behind why the AFL would be so stupid as to bring it in - of course it would be financially driven. I would honestly rather a second gather round each season to bring in more money than teams 9 and 10 being allowed a second chance at playing finals.
the play-in tournament has been pretty well received by NBA fans but i think their demographic would be a lot younger than the AFL'sWildcard games in the NFL and MLB aren't like what is being proposed for the AFL which is more akin to the NBA play-in tournament. He’d have a captive audience for his frozen water sales at the GF.Will probably try to hock it at Cash Converters at quarter time
Man who did terrible things thinks everyone should just forgive and forget. It is impossible to rationalise who the AFL will spend political capital to try and rehabilitate and who they won’t. Today they chose a ring leader in the world sporting’s largest systemic doping scandal (until the Russians were caught doping nearly their entire Olympic team, relegating Essendon* to second place on the WADA hit parade) and accused methamphetamine trafficker.

It just confirms to me the AFL is a boys club, welcomes back drug cheats, drug dealers and woman bashers. These clowns in charge have no shameIt is impossible to rationalise who the AFL will spend political capital to try and rehabilitate and who they won’t. Would love to see a breakdown of the AFLs “operating expenses”.
You would think as members we would be entitled to that info.I had a look but could not find detailed financial statements.
Upsets on the cards: We asked an AI bot to predict every game of this year’s AFL finals series
Forget using a crystal ball, tarot cards or that octopus named Paul. We asked an AI bot to predict how this year’s finals series will unfold, and it came up with some surprising results.www.theage.com.au
AI is a bit simple: "The winner of this grand final will be crowned the 2023 premiership champion, while the runner-up will take second place."
Late in the day, but Luke Hodge was so good to listen to on SEN this
