You know as much as I cannot stand that sh*t stain of a club I don't think it is in good taste having a laugh at stuff like this. We can't be pulling up Collingwood fans for being happy about things like Blanck doing his knee and then dolling it out when we feel like it. I would like to think we're classier than that especially with it being tied to a serious issue.

They are floating a trial balloon to see how much time the media is willing to accept for unproven allegations (even uncharged, as far as I can tell). Particularly in light of the recently completed clusterfark regarding racism against Aborigines at Hawthorn that resulted in sweet f all action for unproven allegations. Now they string an Aborigine up based on claims just as unproven? The AFL is sweating bullets big time.

The AFL integrity unit has no power to compel truthful testimony, or any testimony for that matter. So whatever evidence the AFL has come up with is literally he said / she said unverified claims. Now if a court were considering charges laid against him then that would be a different matter, but charges in previous cases have all been dropped and none have been laid in this instance. So... what can the AFL do? Pay his contract for North and let him sit out half a year? They may as well pay him a lump sum for a full career because he's not coming back from that, I would think.

There's a difference between laughing at an opposition player when he gets injured and laughing when an opposition player gets justifiably punished for being an abuser of women and a sh*tstain of a human being....

Not even remotely the same thing. North, and in particular, TT, deserve all the shit they cop over this.

I laugh at this situation compared to the weekly tribunal. In the tribunal, the AFL has complete discretion via the player's CBA and the club constitutions to do anything they want. "Because we say so" is literally the argument used to suspend Sicily last year.

But when the AFL tries this sort of bully-boy behaviour with civil or criminal matters they turn to jelly. Suddenly they actually need to make a decision that will withstand judicial review and they cannot. They have no enforcement power to collect information and no authority to pass judgment on it. No contract can force a player to criminally indict himself. But still, the AFL arrogantly assumes this "above the fray" authoritative posture in disputes for which they possess absolutely to power to do so. It makes me smile. Nitwits.

Yeah, the AFL will pay him to go away just like they pay the execs who get office girls pregnant to disappear.

I am staggered at the North suporters who constantly take the woe is us and everyone is picking on us victim mentality. It runs rife through that group of nuffies.

TT. He is dick full stop. Grossly overrated player and about to enter the Jarrod Waite territory of potential their whole career. And no club should go anywhere near him if North have the balls to do the right thing.

Incorrect.

He admitted responsibility for the conduct and received a Diversion so he didn’t get a criminal record.

Very different to charges being dropped.

Ah, I tried to look that up but didn't see the answer. So now a six month suspension over a diversion order.

From the Magistrate Court's website:

"If the conditions of the diversion plan are complete, the charges are dismissed with no finding of guilt and recorded in a similar way to an official warning. No criminal record will be recorded."

So, what I can tell, he paid his $1000 to charity and now the charges have been dismissed. Is that correct?

I think you may be wrong again
The diversion order was for the previous charges.

This 18 week suspension is because he’s had fresh allegations made against him, the AFL integrity unit interviewed him & handed him this penalty.

Right, so back to my original position? The previous charges were dismissed on a diversion for $1000 and these latest allegations have not been charged at all. Is that right?

The press reports that charges are dropped is inaccurate.

It suggests the prosecution was “pulled”, but Diversion involves the police, victim and court agreeing that he wouldn’t get a criminal record if he accepts responsibility and complies with the conditions of his Diversion plan.

Once they are complied with / completed the court then dismisses the charges.

Same treatment was given to Michael Voss, Simon Black and Fraser Gherig 15 years ago arising from a pub fight and pool balls being thrown. In that case press reports were “no conviction was recorded” - which sounds a lot more significant than “charges dropped”.

I think you are correct.

I don’t think these latest allegations have been investigated by police

Fair enough but I was just noting that there was a fair few in here that get their panties in a bunch at the hint of other clubs slinging mud our way. The Golden Glenferrie knows I love him and is a big boy so I'm sure it wont touch the sides 😂

I wasn't defending Thomas one iota but rather just to refrain from piling on when another club goes through drama especially with our own ongoing drama that is still at the feet of the HRC.
