GWS are great to watch.

Comparing their midfield to Taranto and Hopper, they have made off like bandits with those trades. Looking at being a top 4 squad for a while. Their away record means they are capable of multiple flags while Toby Greene leads their elite midfield.

Must be the first time that all four teams who played in AFL and NRL grand finals the previous year all lost in round 1.

It’s only early, but looks like GWS finally have all the tools, and a good enough coach, to win a flag.
They've always had the tools, they just had a shit coach who wasted the most talented list ever created.

The AFL won’t be able to put the genie back in the bottle on this one.
Yep that’s right.
Every indigenous footballer from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s etc will have every right to come out and detail the racism they would have (allegedly) experienced.
It’s going to be a minefield for the AFL (and other codes, society in general for that matter).

Disgraced AFL concussion expert and my old 'mate', Dr Paul McCrory is being investigated by police according to the Hun

You can bypass the paywall and read all about McCrory's alleged crimes here. Karma, karma, karma!
Thanks

It would appear to me that the plagiarism was more claiming others research as his own (ie not crediting) as the independent panel found that it did not “taint” his work with the afl.

It also makes Peter Jess correct to say he is guilty of scientific fraud (for the plagiarism) but the article conflates it with “fraud for denying CTE” which I’d need more evidence to say whether that was true or not (as in was mccrory denying CTE in face of overwhelming scientific evidence)

Thanks

It's the Hun, do you really exact accuracy?
I don't think the plagiarism will warrant the polices attention, much as I would like it to. His CTE denial has likely had more negative impact but I don't think this constitute a crime in a formal legal sense.
He was always slimy and untrustworthy. None of it really surprised me when it came out.

If they are going to troll through history and pin certain players and coaches for racist comments, than I would suggest virtually 100’s players in the 70’s, 80’s and into the 90’s could be implicated. Don’t be so virtuous that you favourite Hawk player of these eras would be squeaky clean. Don Scott and Dermie have already admitted.
Not just Hawk related, but wait until Chris Lewis gets encouraged to act and starts naming players who vilified him.

Thanks

Concussion in Sport Group remain very tight knit, key players are funded through sport. Makdissi, Brukner et al, studied under and followers of McCrory.

McCrory did provide medical care, wonder what happens to him from that.

Jess may have instigated this or a class action in the UK i believe. CiSG are involved in just about every major sporting code.

The AFL could follow independent science like they used to.

For a player to decide hey, I can’t play in grand final says a lot. Pucovski in cricket… how many more times?

Thankfully Dillon dismissed helmets.

From what I have read from AHPRA communications about what I would consider more egregious breaches of practice (usually involving direct patient care) their approach seems to be more cautionary rather than barring from practice (with the exception of truly abhorrent behaviour - involving exploitation of patients)

My guess would be some form of conditions on practice, in particular with research (as this was what the professional misconduct is)

that is separate of course to what happens with the police investigation, because if it does lead to criminal findings (ie found guilty) then argument can be made that he is not a fit character to hold a medical license.

I was at this lecture and it flew in the face of research then I’m pretty sure. Since then more evidence has been even more relevant. Kudos to Sam Lane, asked very hard questions in a room with several AFL heavyweights.

Dermie was my favourite footy player as a kid and I admired him more for putting his hand up and having the stones to admit fault and take responsibility for his past indiscretions then anything he achieved on a footy field. Racism is a taught thing and can most certainly be untaught if everyone bands together an calls it out.

Watching that you can feel the shame and disgust Dermie has in himself because winning at all costs when comes to things like that is just not worth it. Even back then racial vilification should’ve been out of bounds like family, mental illness etc but it wasn’t and I feel the reason is because society back then saw indigenous people as lower than animals which is absolutely disgusting.

I remember another one of my childhood hero’s in Dippa getting called out for an off the cuff racist comment when he was an Auskick ambassador. I still to this day don’t think Dippa is a racist but rather just very uneducated like a lot of people from that era which is no excuse. To his credit he took full responsibility and was stood down from his role. He undertook a several weeks of counselling / education on the matter and was sincerely remorseful for his actions. Like a lot of people they need to start understanding that words can hurt and have long lasting impacts on others just as much as physical harm.
