Yet another missing person, this one with his dog

Watched the Netflix Doco. What a bizarre situation all round! For some reason the Doco (to me) came across very 'American', doesn't help that the guys name was Moriarty, (Shades of Sherlock Holmes too) I had to keep reminding myself that this was in Australia. A small group (11?) of mainly older people living in an isolated NT 'ghost town', each person with their own quirky personality and questionable reason for living there. One goes missing (with his dog ) and they are all under suspicion for different reasons!! Great watch.

Hopefully the ID of this accused 1993 Nedlands rapist will be revealed today in court and the media sometime today.
This could lead to other unsolved crimes in Perth and possibly elsewhere being solved when/if his ID is made public, including pics of what he looked like in the intervening years.

Investigative Genetic Genealogy technology finally nailed him 31 years after the attack.

DNA has led detectives to arrest and charge a 53-year-old Canberra man with the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman at a college in Nedlands in 1993.

Police will allege the attack happened about 3am on February 23, 1993, when the 53-year-old man forced entry to the Stirling Highway college.

“The victim ... was asleep in her student accommodation when she was awoken to the man in her room. It will be further alleged the man threatened the victim and sexually assaulted her,” police said in a statement.

“A forensic examination was conducted at the time of the assault which resulted in an unidentified male DNA profile being located. This DNA profile remained unidentified for thirty years.”

Using ground-breaking Investigative Genetic Genealogy technology a suspect was identified and on Wednesday — with the help of the Australian Federal Police — the man was arrested in Canberra and subsequently extradited to Perth.

He has since been charged by special crime squad detectives with two counts of aggravated sexual penetration without consent and one count of burglary and commit.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.'

Was this one we thought Edwards might be responsible for?

Not as far as I'm aware.

But there's alot of old threads on various forums and any archives of them or media archives that might still exist, to see if this rape even made the media back in 1993, let alone in the 31 years thereafter.

Craig Anthony Dwyer

'...
Craig Anthony Dwyer, 53, appeared briefly in the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon and spoke only to say he understood the charges against him.

He made no application for bail and the duty lawyer requested that the case be adjourned for six weeks so Mr Dwyer could get legal advice and make an application for legal aid.

He was remanded in custody and is due back in court in mid-August.
...
a forensic examination was conducted at the time of the assault but that despite the best efforts of police, the case went unsolved.

Police said the investigation moved forward through advances in technology, and using the expertise of the PathWest Forensic Biology Department.'
