This is no way to win back the indie devs they've been leaking to Unreal Engine. To be honest I'd find it hard to recommend Unity to anybody interested in starting out these days compared to 5 years ago. This along with a string of other decisions from Unity will do nothing to support their case.

How much has UE improved in the space for 2D development?

Due to how bloated the engine is (in a good way) that's probably the one area you could make a case for Godot or Unity. But by 2D that's assuming purely sprites. If we're talking 2.5 or 2D perspective you'd still just about have to default to Unreal at this point. UE is comparable in pricing to indie devs when historically the licensing was restricted to AAA studios. Even with the latest additions to Unity there is still a lot of manual busy work to make your game's basics functional and you will still need to learn C# at some point.

UE is just a no brainer in almost every circumstance now (unless you're looking at 2D sprites as mentioned). It's a breeze to prototype in, visual scripting blueprints are amazing and the only reason you'd be interested in learning C++ would be if you needed to dig into the engine code. In the time you save no longer having to learn to code or getting basic components setup you can spend that time learning a bit of third party software like Blender and Substance Painter. Pair those skills with Quixel which is completely free as long as you're using it inside UE and you can knock out a AAA indie project.

That's cool to know and thanks for the answer. I've been in and out of learning the tools as a hobby for a bit now. I remember UE was just not good particularly with sprites and tilesheets like you mentioned on top of needing to navigate the program deeper to do simple things which are right there on Unity.

dwwaino any thoughts on Godot vs UE?

Depends on the use case. If you're interested in 2D with sprites then Godot. For absolutely anything else UE. Of course I'm not talking about professionals or experienced developers determining the best engine for their project. This is more for somebody with no experience that wants to get into it as a hobby and might not know what engine to begin with.

A new single player horror Alien game is in the works. (Unrelated to the Aliens top-down co-op also in development)

Don't get your hopes up too much, as the studio doing it are no-names with a small list of shitty games

The new Aliens game will star a battle-hardened veteran who has a vendetta against the Xenomorphs

I like it! I like it a lot! Old school Assassins creed is just what I need to get back on board the Assassins creed wagon!

I get this inch to play assassins creed every once in a while and lately I've ben thinking of buying the remastered Assassins Creed 2 Ezio collection for the ps4, anyone played it? is it worth buying? Or just stick with the originals?
