Either that or players on these deals need to be traded without permission. Fair enough some 19 year old on a 2 year deal but these long term guys need to have some consequences or they can just piss it in like the ginger blob for a couple years
Well quite.

I have to ask though, are you absolutely committed to the idea that the issues with Clayton Oliver are entirely, or at all, linked to his being given a long and generous contract?

If so, youre elevating him to being a mastermind of long-term planning and I just don’t see it.

This is absurd

Don’t know what the money is in this one, but you’d imagine that this will impact their capacity to bring in new trades for a fair while.

They really need to win that premiership sometime soon. No pressure

It is funny with free agency came in everyone was complaining it's going to ruin loyalty and players would just be moving around with to much power. Well they're right on players having to much power but it's completely out of balance the other way

Now it's funny because clubs are bending over backwards to secure them long term and also ensure that the restricted agents are hard or to high to match

Let me answer a question with a question, do you think Oliver would have been as carefree in his efforts if he had 2 years remaining and didn't have the security of a mega long deal and could have been moved on a hell of a lot easier or could have lost money on his next contract?

Sub consciously or consciously he wouldn know that he can take the foot off the pedal and have little to no consequence

I really don’t agree.

Yeah it's been a disaster in some ways. I'm not even sure its the players tbh. It's the grubby player managers who run this comp. Clubs are in fear. Trade time as well. Making sure a player who wants out gets to their destination because a player manager has several players on their roster. I have no doubt player managers are pulling the strings.

Yeah, this is basically the NBA now except the players have even more power somehow while playing a contact sport, how does that work lol. And heaven forbid people should know the exact figures they are making and their weight. That would be unfair!

There is going to be a tipping point at some stage surely, some club is going to get absolutely ruined with these ridiculous deals, even worse than we have been with Brayshaw and Oliver. If its the Suns im sure the AFL will come up with a rule to bail them out
