I am not a golf person at all, but why are so many golf fans annoyed by LIV? I get that the PGA PR machine wants to talk it down, but if you live in Australia it doesn't make any sense why you wouldn't like LIV, as it at least gives you a chance to attend another pro golf event in your country!

It's sportswashing of the ugliest kind, by the repugnant Saudi Govt - and it's ripping apart the golf organisations, in the same way that World Series Cricket did back in the 1970s.

Yes, LIV Golf is the only association the Saudi's have with any major sport or business... F1, EPL, ICC... should I go on or do you get the point?

Sydney Swans don't like betting? No worries. Qatar Airways? All good there.

I agree that F1, EPL, ICC shouldn't be doing business with them either.

I dont really get this line of thinking.

LIV was awesome, doesnt mean all of a sudden I am on board with Saudi government policy. LIV doesnt seem to come with some political propaganda message, the only time I saw anything on the coverage mentioning Saudi Arabia was a Saudi Golf hat.

That's the whole point of its very existence.

Sportswashing is just one of those hip new wanky woke words people want to use to label something they don't like without actually knowing what it means

Every single country in the world has some sort of moral issue that theoretically should ban it from hosting or funding sporting events. To label Saudi and other Arab country sporting events as "Sportswashing" is as lazy as analysing Darcy Fogarty's early AFL years as a bust because he's fat and doesn't get 15 disposals.

Well they are not doing a good job of it if it isnt noticable.
I have no urge to get on the plane for a vakay with the family in Jeddah.
It's not about changing your minds instantly, and making you want to visit. It's about gradually changing & softening opinions, making you more positively inclined towards Saudi, despite them having being run by one of the world's most murderous and repressive regime's.

To me it seems the only people associating LIV to the average punter is the anti sport washing brigade, they are doing the publicity for the Saudi regime.

Yes the funding is from Saudi but my point was that was where where the association seemed to stop, I didnt see pro Saudi propaganda anywhere.

Sportswashing is the ONLY reason the Saudi Govt is paying for it - just as they are with the Dakar, F1 GP, and multiple other sporting events. The whole thing is one big propaganda exercise, by the Saudi Govt.
