(I think) it's a sort of rare(?) guernsey that you really want to own, but haven't come across one or haven't been able to afford it.

Oh, a premiership jumper.

Kind of, a Whale refers to something that a person wants but is almost impossible to get so much so it basically becomes an obsession (in this case a guernsey/jersey/etc.), it comes from the story Moby Dick and the character Captain Ahab's obsession in hunting down the White Whale.

An unused spare premiership jumper with no number but the premiership logo.

Well yes if that is what you personally want. See for me one whale was this:

When I was in America in 2000 I bought the white version, but due to limited funds I held back on buying this. Then by the time I realised I really wanted one the team had changed their designs and it became nearly impossible to find one that was legitimate.

However this weekend gone as part of the Ducks 20th anniversary they wore this:

which happened to be a Reebok Edge version but they also made these available through the online shop (rather than the edge version):

and now $200 later, sometime soon I will have one of my whales.

I thought that it meant something along the lines of "what jumper do you wear to the footy", and by the looks of some replies I don't think I was on my own... Good to have it cleared up though.

I guess I've always been designing things. I became interested in footy design this year when I decided that someone out there must have a better idea for a Gold Coast guernsey, and stumbled on this board through Google images.

Round 23 was a great atmosphere, for Saints supporters anyway... until the goal review on Kozi.
Hey, I have a Line-6! I like mine.
Wise choice ;)
I like that idea.

And you have a Tele?

The day I stopped using my Line-6 was one of the best days of my life :p I swear I've told you about my Tele before.. Made in America, put a Bigsby on it a couple of years ago.

That score review was a joke.

I just realised that I didn't finish my dinner party guests before I posted... Should get on that.

I guess I could spout off a bunch of ignorant blather about Australia, a place I've spent but a handful of days. Nah....I'd rather get my info from someone that's been there for decades.
While we're on the topic of ignorant blather, you're the one assuming I've spent "but a handful of days" in America. I'm more than qualified to provide a counterpoint to your "info", so relax!

You live here for a while? Please share. I'd like to know where you've been. My original comment actually came straight from an Ethiopian. He found the interior much more representative of America than New York or LA. I never really thought about it much till he said that....but I agreed with him.

It wasn't a matter of which better or worse....which is what this discussion morphed into. But if you really think the NY/LA is really how the rest of America is, then we'll agree to disagree.

I live up the road (the I5), and LA is a toilet.
It is nothing like anywhere in between, with the possible exception of Sacramento, which is another toilet.
The places in between are quite nice.
To me it seems the smaller places are the best places in the US.
Seattle is nice, Olympia is much better.
LA is horrible, San Diego is nice.
The US might not live without LA or New York, but the people there are not representative of the rest of the country.
For one thing, you virtually have to speak Spanish in LA, I wouldn't think that was important in too many other places.

This was a weird game. I've become accustomed to seeing Freo lose more games live than win, and we made so many changes I wasn't surprised to be flogged. I went with a Saints supporting uni mate and it was weird to almost will on a hack like Kosi. It was definitely a good arvo for St Kilda, though.

And it was good to see about 10 blokes play their first or last game for Freo as well. Really good on the club for allowing those guys a run. Alex Forster was able to say he played one game of AFL – but he was also able to run out, on a beautiful day in Melbs, with his best mate from some shithole town in South Australia.

That's the thing you have to get used to with Ross Lyon, only ever playing young players when the outcome really just doesn't matter. I never really thought about that game from a Freo perspective, it must have been surreal.

Yeah nah that's not the point at all.

Sheridan, Neale, Crozier, Hannath had played less than 10 games and were all given about 10 games this year. Not to mention blooding about five more debutants.

There is a gulf between how he treated St Kilda's young players and how he's blooding Freo's new ones.

Let it die. That wasn't the point of my post at all, man.

I wasn't trying to pick out that argument. Anyway...

I lived in Brooklyn for 6 years in the mid-2000s, felt like a pretty authentic American experience to me.

And no I obviously don't think NY/LA is how the rest of the US is, but I refute the assertion that those cities are consequently somehow not REAL America.

Btw, you wondered earlier if you were the only one on here not born in the '80s or '90s. Mero (guy below your last post) is a long-standing, well-regarded resident of this board. He (and a few others that I can't name off the top of my head) ought to serve as a reminder that you're not alone in those stakes!
