Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am
Trade Period Closes: Wednesday October 16 at 7.30pm

Copying the bosses words from the start of PT-2

And for those unaware, we’ve already got dedicated threads for two players who've made it known they want to join Geelong:

Smith - https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/bailey-smith-officially-nominates-geelong.1388182/

Martin - https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/jack-martin-chooses-geelong-as-new-home.1388180/

If other player/s formally request a move to play in the hoops, we'll open dedicated threads for them also

Macrae is contracted until 2027. An industry source, who preferred to remain anonymous while negotiations were under way, confirmed that the Saints were not keen to hand over pick 46 for the 30-year-old, who has battled for a permanent position in the Bulldogs’ midfield in the past two seasons.

This was in the article about the Dogs driving a hard bargain for Smith. They're also claiming to drive a hard bargain for McRae.

It's interesting though, there was a lot of 'Melbourne have been strong...we want to be respectful...put it to bed.' but then towards the end, he said 'that's where it currently sits...that's something Clayton needs to work through...as far as we know.' It definitely reads as multiple outlets have been saying, that the door isn't closed yet, and it's more up to him and his management if they want to pursue it aggressively.

Perfect interview though. If it's going to happen, it's all in Clayton, Connors/Gieschen, and Melbourne's court. We're not chasing at all, and never really have been. If we don't hear a thing from Clayton via himself, his management group or media leaks, then I'd say as most of us have thought, then he stays a Dee yet again.

EDIT: This quote from Tim Lamb though - that's definitive:

Q: Is there any chance Clayton Oliver is playing for another club in 2025?
A: Melbourne list boss Tim Lamb: No.

Really is up to Clayton if he wants to push, but going by that statement above, they'd look like f*cking morons to have an about face now. We move on :)

Would take Deven Robertson if he is cheap, in my opinion he is a much better option than Clark at the moment.

Geelong received picks 25, 76 and 94 when they traded uncontracted tall Esava Ratugolea last year and have picks 17, 38, 56, 74 and 92 plus future picks in hand as they enter this year’s trade period.

I doubt this happens, but it the Dogs end up accepting just our first round picks for Smith, it'd almost be like trading Ratugolea for Smith - absolutely brilliant trading if that were the case.

Now we see if Oliver really wants out otherwise we fast forward to 2025 and see if things are even worse in which case Melb will need to pay a huge chunk of his salary and give a top 10 pick.

Of course things could go well and he ends up staying for the remainder of his contract but where you have smoke you usually have fire.

If they want to drive it hard fro a good result ..they should have traded him 12 months ago. We probably trade out lasts years R1 ..and something from this year.

Now uncontracted…. they can drive it hard …but do they really want to drive it hard like Thelma and Louise ...

To be honest, the Dogs don't strike me as the most professional club going... Too much heart decision making, not enough head decision making.

Surely they're all bark, no bite.
