Because their tall stocks are horrendous (georgiades aside) and he's exactly what they need.
Port have Georgiades, Finlayson, Marshall, Lord, and now Lukosius (who has said he'll be playing forward in 2025) as KPF options.

Ough was definitely impressive at the back end of the year. I could see a club taking him early.
I’m pretty sure Sims will be available for our first selection. Less certain about Gerryn. He seems to be rising in expectation.
Actually one of the more impressive looking key forwards in this crop. Love the look of what his overall attributes are
How many DFAs have turned into anything more than fringe players at best? Stengle but he was delisted for non football reasons. I can't think of anyone else off the top of my head.
We don't need depth. Nobody from the prelim is retiring. SDK, O'Connor and Guthrie were on the sidelines, Martin and Smith are coming in and guys like O'Sullivan, Clark, Knevitt, Clohesy, and Conway are a year older and better.
I'd much prefer to role the dice on a kid late in the draft than any of these.
Lachie Bramble is one of the current successful DFAAt Geelong or in general?
Technically, Menegola was a DFA
- Oleg Markov was a pretty handy pickup for Collingwood, especially last year during their premiership run
- Jack Newnes joined Carlton as a DFA following the 2019 season and played 52 games for them across 3 seasons
- Josh Walker, after starting his career with us was traded to Brisbane and after they cut him he was picked up as a DFA by North - over 3 seasons with them he played 56 games (the most at any of his 3 clubs), kicked 6 goals but spent most of his time in defence and retired following the 2022 season
Can we also count delisted players who were selected as part of the SSP prior to the start of the season as technically, they would have been available as DFA
- Mason Wood has turned into a super reliable player for St Kilda after being delisted by North
- Liam Stoker has been another positive recruit for the Saints; just the 28 games for Carlton across 4 seasons and he's already played 39 across his two seasons at the Saints
- Jeremy Sharp didn't play a senior game for GC in 2023 and after being picked up by Freo earlier this year went on to play 23 matches for them, becoming a main stay in their side
There's also the Irish recruits like Connor McKenna & Mark Keane who both left their original clubs to return to Ireland before making their way back to the AFL via the SSP
This is only looking back as far as 2019 - there's generally been some success each year with the selection of delisted players, either directly as DFA or subsequently their selection as SSPs
Tom Stewart has previously said that if he was drafted as an 18yr old that he wouldn't have lasted in the league
If he's delisted ask him if he just wants to sign in the DFA period. If he says no then don't draft him, if he says yes then just sign him.I see Max Knobel has been delisted by Freo with the promise of re-drafting him in the Rookie draft. Ruckman 206cms who apparently plays with a lot of mongrel. Maybe use our last draft pick on him ?

He seems mobile and athletic from the highlights packages I have seen. I will say I have only seen highlights.. which may be well short of a full pictureThere's a bit of Levi casboult about him. I think the goalkicking will put the clubs off-30 to 60 for mine.

Like the "Dangerwood" moniker of yore, I propose "Smimes" for a Smith & Holmes midfield..

Any change Mitch edwards ends up a permanent forward at the level??? Much like Sam Darcy
Any change Mitch edwards ends up a permanent forward at the level??? Much like Sam Darcy
I hope he could... But wasn't Sam Darcy a Forward/Ruck in his under 18s? As I don't think Edwards was ( not saying he still can't be a Forward )Any change Mitch edwards ends up a permanent forward at the level??? Much like Sam Darcy
He seems to have transferable attributes and will make a very difficult match up if he is any good in the position. He is talented ..but is that his role. Probably worth a look at VFL level but I always have doubts about guys who do not play the role at the lower level. Very few ruckman perform like Paul Salmon.
Almost zero.Any change Mitch edwards ends up a permanent forward at the level??? Much like Sam Darcy
