The weight is the far bigger issue for mine.

However, he has at least gotten himself to the position whereas he can have good influence around the ground at VFL level, so at least there's something.

Any ruckman we pick up at this point will have warts. I'd rather have Crossley's mum and his low fitness base than Soldo's wage, pick cost, and attitude, or the same with Ladhams. I also don't want someone like Fort circa 2019, who was essentially a Free Hit for AFL ruckman at the centre circle.

We do already have Conway, and hopefully Edwards to come. There's no point in overspending in what is essentially a single position.
Moot point anyway his las lack of fitness already puts him behind the 8 ball with needing a solid pre season just lose the weight let alone have the match fitness required for AFL level

As I said if he was serious about a AFL return he would be in a better physical position to make a statement .

WTF are WCE sending 63 & 68 to Carlton?

This seems a great deal for Carlton & Richmond, not so good for the Eagles

Pick 14 for Liam Baker is horrific.

The fact that it is the Eagles that are doing it is even worse. They would be SOOOO much better off pulling out of this cluster**** altogether and going into a strong draft with pick 3.

Ok

So which one of you buggers (term of endearment) doubles as Ports list manager...

And whichever one it is, hurry up and accept a further 4th in exchange for Butters

😎😎😎
My secret but reliable connections from the Dark Web state there are three very strong undercover possibilities, who are doubling as Ports list manager. . .

They have zero need to trade for Baker or Owies:
  • Baker can be picked up via the PSD; it's not like Richmond is going to select him with pick 1 in that
  • Owies will be a DFA very shortly as Carlton didn't offer him a contract

They are doing the nice thing by trading for them, but it's also a very very stupid thing when it involves moving on pick 3

This lunacy might just be fuelling the Dogs as well, unfortunately.

They could look at that trade and say well if Liam Baker is worth pick 14, then Bailey Smith has to be worth a top 5 pick. And they'd be right... IF Baker was worth that. Our simple response should be, "we're not (as stupid as) the Eagles".

That may be so

But I think what Pure is referring is referring to is that when Crossley was facing his drug ban & delisting from GC, his mum made his AFL career about herself - making very public comments & criticism about the treatment of her son, problems at the Suns etc

That's not necessarily something a club wants to be considering that they'd have to be concerning themselves with

I can see both sides.

We have had issues with mums and ruckman before …. but I also can totally understand a mother standing up for their boy…. He is now a man…and a lot more mature. He is working in an area of some sort of social helping (cant remember exactly). I would be less concerned about him and his mother who now probably would just be desperate to see her son get another chance if thats what he wants … If it was just that ..my bet is one discussion would put that to bed..

I'd be more concerned about his type and body shape. He is a big chunky Mumford type of ruck.. to some degree an older chuckier version of Conway.. which our MC do not like . Its no use our recruitment team adding him … and then of MC not being willing to pick him. If we brought him in and he showed he can run like Stanley (for example) id be all over him.. I suspect he is going to run like Hawk.

We look at rucks like tall midfeilders.. and Ic ant see this guys being that..as much as Id like to give him a chance.

Exactly. I can't fathom what they're thinking TBH.

The only possible rationale I can think of is that they see themselves as an "alpha" club that has been down the bottom of the ladder too long, and they're completely overrating their ability to climb back up again. They think they're too good to build slowly with 18yos and that adding Baker and Owies is all they need to be competitive again.

Wrong.

Very similar to Carlton of 15-20 years ago IMO. Pure hubris.

West Coast: Wow! I can't believe Geelong screwed us on the Tim Kelly deal! What jerks!

Also West Coast: Yes we'll trade pick 3 for a couple of cooked players and some magic beans! Thank you Carlton

Carlton: in the corner trying to fit a square block in a triangular hole

Honestly, I'd be having the same reaction as the Eagles. It'd be even worse for us, as we haven't even had a top 5 pick since 1990 (was the #1 pick...don't know how that happened!?!). But having access to one of the best 5 draftees for this year would be so rare and valuable to us, to do something like that would...ergh, i get a bad taste just thinking about it.

I never want to hear another word about geelong screwing over west coast on TK. This is not a Geelong thing. This is a West coast thing

Compo for losing a bunch of players to a new team IIRC.
Can't remember the players, Hamilton I think was one, nor remember the expansion team, bears maybe?
