Love his contested marking and strong leading patterns. Seems to also have good speed and agility for a forward. Has shown an ability at his best to really cause havoc infront of goals but also get up the field as needed.

Really like the look of him probably more than Whitlock or the armstrong who I think is a bit overrated

I too like the contested marking of TS.. as I feel the ability to do that makes one more sustainable at the next level. One will not be baby spoon feed at afl level. Sims will need to polish his kicking a bit but seems such an ideal type hawkins out and Sims in… and would give us the extra tall that could help with rucks.

I like Armstrong as well and as he is an appealing prospect will see him well gone before our pick. I see the Whitlocks as handy types .. I could see the advantage of someone like the Swans grabbing both. Would one leave and move away from the other? North too if they wanted to take them early… they have added a lot of mid talent


Thing is one cant have them all .. its gets down to ones personal preferences. . Gerreyn has appeal to .. probably the most aggressive out of all the talls this year

We don't need depth. Nobody from the prelim is retiring. SDK, O'Connor and Guthrie were on the sidelines, Martin and Smith are coming in and guys like O'Sullivan, Clark, Knevitt, Clohesy, and Conway are a year older and better.

I'd much prefer to role the dice on a kid late in the draft than any of these.

We need to take at least 1 tall which needs to be a key forward so we have someone developing in the VFL

Of course if the club doesn't think any are worth it fine but surely the draft has 1 that could maybe make it.

At Geelong or in general?

Technically, Menegola was a DFA

- Oleg Markov was a pretty handy pickup for Collingwood, especially last year during their premiership run

- Jack Newnes joined Carlton as a DFA following the 2019 season and played 52 games for them across 3 seasons

- Josh Walker, after starting his career with us was traded to Brisbane and after they cut him he was picked up as a DFA by North - over 3 seasons with them he played 56 games (the most at any of his 3 clubs), kicked 6 goals but spent most of his time in defence and retired following the 2022 season


Can we also count delisted players who were selected as part of the SSP prior to the start of the season as technically, they would have been available as DFA

- Mason Wood has turned into a super reliable player for St Kilda after being delisted by North

- Liam Stoker has been another positive recruit for the Saints; just the 28 games for Carlton across 4 seasons and he's already played 39 across his two seasons at the Saints

- Jeremy Sharp didn't play a senior game for GC in 2023 and after being picked up by Freo earlier this year went on to play 23 matches for them, becoming a main stay in their side


There's also the Irish recruits like Connor McKenna & Mark Keane who both left their original clubs to return to Ireland before making their way back to the AFL via the SSP

This is only looking back as far as 2019 - there's generally been some success each year with the selection of delisted players, either directly as DFA or subsequently their selection as SSPs

I am not overly impressed with the Whitlock boys or Armstrong… don’t look as contested or strong in the air. Seem to both get a lot of easier looks and goals through positioning as opposed to aerial strength and contested marking like sims.

Tom Stewart has previously said that if he was drafted as an 18yr old that he wouldn't have lasted in the league

3 years ? we have been hearing a variation of that since 2011.

Once some get a narrative they stick with it forever.

we were one of the youngest teams in the comp around 2015-2018 so that noise died down a lot around that time.

Picked back up when we added GAJ back and hasn’t died off since.
It’s gonna be weird being median in average age

That was one game. I’ve seen a bit of his school footy this year. He’s a gun. More your Cameron style key forward than a monster Hawkins type. But he’s very mobile and has a great foot. Reads the play well. Him and Hotton were absolute standouts for Haileybury this year.

This is basically a list of what you can expect from a DFA.

Fringe players like Stocker, Newnes and Markov. Walker got games in terrible teams at Brisbane and North.

Wood is a great call and the obvious exception of a guy who turned into a very handy player.

Sharp will be a good watch. Had a decent year this year. He's ok but I feel like Freo might need to move beyond him to push deep in finals. Or he needs to improve further.

The first night call will probably signify that is probably the highest rated KPF in this draft. He does seem like Cameron where he might not be a traditional KPF …might make him desirable. He looked like he would give max value for his shots at goal.

it would be a good start if we could add at least one As you say we have lost some height and Blitz and Stanley are 34.

Would they look at the delisted/mature guys for a rookie spot to give coverage for Conway?

Environment is important but also Sam was played out of position for most of his time.
He mainly played HFF/FP until East Fremantle decided to exploit his elite fitness and play him midfield.
IIRC he finished 3rd in the Sandover despite missing a stack of games in the year we drafted him.

Preuss has played 28 games in 10 seasons. Firm no.
