As I said I reckon the earliest we could trade in is gws at 15 (might be Richmond at 20) and I'd be staggered if he isn't gone by then.

I reckon he could be still there for the GWS pick but I can’t see them being open to trading that pick. Hope I’m wrong.

Don't see why we'd go for a 18yo ruck now, with Conway and Edwards both highly rated and already on the list.

The much bigger problem for us is who plays ruck in 2025, especially in the high probability scenario that Conway is injured and Stanley is either injured or diminished. No 18yo ruck is gonna help us there.

I think the club confirmed that we are not taking a mature Ruck when it was annouced that Rhys had been resigned.

Similarly, I was surprised when Furphy was delisted as I though he had some potential and was more mature. I am only guessing, but it suggests we needed a Cat B opening.

I think with no Furphy we now have to take a ruck that is ready to go. You'd assume they have a plan there

Yeah but the way that knee was being spoken about late last year made it sound like a chronic condition creating an unstable joint. Two rounds of surgery within what 8 weeks?

Tex has always been on the shorter side for a key forward, but he's a different generation.

He's not short.
194cm but also a massive unit like Hawkins. Over 100kg's throughout his entire career.

Only for the right target but it's possible much as I'd rather we didn't.

id hope not unless the Tuggers get Rd1 pick giddy drunk and throw something away cheaper for some unknown reason.

We got Smith and Martin. 45 will come into 40 or so.

Not sure I see the need to dip into 2025 picks unless there is player we rate Top 10 still sitting there at 22 or so.

ITs ok to take a breath IMO and consolidate picks for a year.

If we are able to secure Hotton then I'm sure we would try. Not sure whether they will be interested in just taking him themselves? I'd also do it to get Shanahan and possibly Hynes.

Sorry I cannont point to anything specifically. But I am pretty confident he has signed. As have the other Patrick and Mitch. I must have read it somewhere but it might have just been on BigFooty!

If we do trade our future first I hope we take a bolter or someone who hasn't had the chance to fully impress. Hotton is clearly one example.

No interest in trading a future first for a guy who has been in the shop window all year but are passed over by the first 20-odd picks. Generally sliders slide for a reason.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing official at this stage - just all the speculation around the length of contracts they are expected to sign

I agree generally, especially if this years draft is supposed to be stronger than next years.

Richmond might be the exception though. They have so many picks it might be in their interest to spread some of thos late teens/early 20's picks into next year. But even if true, there might be someone offering more than us to get them.

I suspect a fair bit of comp for that pick… either 23 being the last pick of R1 … or 24 being the first pick of R2…. there will be hot comp for that having a full day of fighting for it it..

It really is a tough industry. I remember a lot of hype for him just two years ago, and just like that it's over.

Wouldn't be against giving him a shot vs pick 260, particularly if we could get Taj too.

The Saints are such a basket case that I genuinely struggle to blame kids who don't make it who've been unfortunate enough to end up there.

At a Geelong, Hawthorn, Collingwood, or Sydney you'd back their judgement, and there's probably nothing there talent wise or the application is subpar.

Saints (among others) don't get that benefit of the doubt IMO.

I have mentioned before …that the best talent goes to the worst club but the afl is not a land where all are equal…so often players land at clubs based on talent that are not the best fit . I have mentioned Tambling Varcoe ..but my bet there are heaps of example. JoelS is ofter sited as a great add , and as good as he was , he was was not added to a basketcase. A bit grating to agree with him but Cornes was basically saying the same with Stephenson retiring at 25….

Some clubs give kids a better chance..but obviously its not always the case.. Sydney have a relatively poor record of late for R1 picks ( A bit like us). Pies Hawks too have their misses… so I think being delisted and missing is no absolute determination on ability. Sometimes , one is just not ready and for what ever reason you run out of time at the club you are at. Often mentioned… that Tom Stew think he would have come and gone if drafted when 18

This year especially , there are players getting delisted that would be getting games at a lot of clubs next year.

I think if you could add a few of these guys even to our VFL ..have a close look at them ..then it will give us options come MSD.

I was told yesterday again our target this draft is Hotton. Interestingly his brother was delisted by Saints today, so there goes the theory of some people in here Saints take him based on his brother being there.

Anything can happen in draft … “but” … unless Hotton slips into the 20’s I think we struggle to get him. If I was Rich ..and they have had a truckload of picks … I wonder if they throw a pick at a kid like him .. or trade it to us ..we take him.

What's the chances we go for Dodson? I reckon it's slim given the two young rucks on list... Suspect we will go for Key Position or Midfielder, or Midfielder/Forward type if we trade for an earlier pick.

I think we will be able to snare Flanker/Winger types, or role types with late picks.

I do like him , and he fits our sterotypical type … but do we use another early pick on a ruck? Id be not as against it as some … as you add him …and then take matures like Henderson etc later..

The issue is probably gives you little coverage short term…. and long term … if he is not a regular , he becomes a SA target. One best be confident , he fits our best side projection.

It seems that way to me … and then go with COS and add a backman. SDK is moving into his mid 20’s ..so he is no longer young. With a full preseason training the role .. what is his ceiling ?

When we look at those names now .. I find it hard not to think that they would be gone …. but someone will be there. Its that type of draft where it is som even, and a list manger or two will try to show his ability to find the guys who is better than phantoms have him…...
