Rumour GFC 2025 Player Trading, Drafting FA, Rumours and Wish lists Pt 1

Mick McGuane ..says Ess should look at Demp …. although why he would move there is an unexplained mystery.

It seems to me they have shown they want to keep their picks and target FA’s to try an top up while adding talent… and Id think Geelong would rightly ask a fair bit for a rising star winner.

WHAT THEY NEED

….

There is reportedly a $2.5 million war chest available at Tullamarine.

The Bombers must be aggressive in the trade and free agency period this year and use it.

I hope they don’t think they are in the box seat to secure Harley Reid if he requests a trade back to Victoria.

I can’t speak for Reid, but the best young players generally like to see a strong club that has a winning attitude, not one that is conditioning its fans to be patient.

If Reid picks Hawthorn as his club of choice — if he indeed decides to leave West Coast — then Gold Coast’s Matt Rowell should be on their radar as he will stiffen up the midfield and show them what a competitive mindset looks like.

Geelong’s Ollie Dempsey is out of contract and would complement Essendon’s front-half nicely.

For the backline, St Kilda’s Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Port Adelaide pair Miles Bergman and Kane Farrell should also be targets.

The Bombers missed out on Houston last year.

They can’t afford to miss the boat on another big trade or free agency target again and just believe that going to the draft will fix their issues.

There are no guarantees with that approach.

….

They will trade a lot of people on their list before they trade Walsh. No chance unless he goes FA next year.

I think his name is just being raised in the Pre Agent balloon that Gettable likes to float. Only if they thought that Walsh would be gone as a FA and tehy could get multiple R1’s by trading him early. Highly improbable. I dont think he ever followed Geelong .. so if he were to leave it would not be us anyway.

The Rowell one is not as “closed up” as they are making it out to be.
Suns are pushing hard to get him on the same page as Dimma but here’s a nifty bit of info my local source passed on.

Rowell was a big Stewy Dew guy so when Dew got the axe it put him in a bit of a weird spot with the Suns.
That and the lack of success has definitely been weighing on him.

Towards the end of last season my source was to use his words, “surprised” that Matt looked like he wanted to go and was basically already checking out on them.
He then later said the Suns had “sat down and had talks with Matt and his agent” to get back onto the same page.
I think they know it’s do or die time with him, if they can’t start getting on field success then Rowelly may finally see the roses smell better back in Victoria.

If he signs on, wouldn’t blame him whatsoever.
Some guys want to show loyalty to the club that drafted them and want to stick around with their mates to try and succeed.
He would be rewarded with a TRUCKLOAD of money.

But they are also totally within their rights to do what’s best for them and their career.
Agents are constantly in their ear, clubs and coaches are constantly pushing them to seek the best deal or the best move they can make.
Rowelly’s agent knows this, I imagine if things go south again for Gold Coast that Matt will start really entertaining a move.

At least that’s how my source put it. Cats are in play…but so are a few other clubs.
I know Pies have pushed hard…no idea how they do it with lack of draft capital? They have McGuane coming through who they will bid on.

The bidding this year will be instructive as the changes in the points have clouded what teams will need. If Rowell wanted the Pies then I suspect the Pies would not be that upset if Maynard left on big dollars as a FA. They get B1 or B2 and then probably dip into futures again to make the deal work. Last year was the first R1 they had missed for a while so they probably pay it forward.

Yeah no maybe ... got bypassed for his mate Noah Anderson at Gold Coast, and they arrived the same year.
I have my sneaking suspicions that they did not want to name Rowell as captain due to the fact that he has not yet confirmed to stay on past the end of the year.

Dempsey has to actually want to leave, every indication is that he wants to stay

Whatever you think about the standard of general footy reporting, these types of articles are entirely nonsensical.

'Just look across the competition and think of some names that you believe would improve (club x). No need for there to be any links or any genuine reasons to believe the deal might happen. Just put the names out there.'

And as good as Demsey is... Dons need big bodies.

Dempsey is an icing-on-the-cake type player and the Dons don't have a cake to be icing.

Would make sense ... but also a very good way to make him stay?
Either way, it seems Anderson - whose father is in Leading Teams - might have been misunderestimated (to quote George Bush) when drafted.

There seems to be something a bit off at the dogies culturally??

Brett goodes he said behind closed doors who worked at bulldogs and then geelong just how much better a culture geelong is, that it wasn’t even comparable.

Then you have Bailey smith wanting gone from the place, and now you have JUH very disgruntled and off with the players from the sounds of things.

It’s too much to ignore
Bevo is a big part of the reason IMO.

Dunkley made note that its very cliquey environment at the Dogs.

You were either one of "Bevo's boys" or you weren't.
Big party filled vibe and culture in that group.

If you were on the straight and narrow like Dunkley was you didn't fit in very well.
He said it was like night and day going from Dogs training to the Lions preseason.

The amount of professionalism at Brisbane shocked him.

This is almost identical to what Brett goodes said about bulldogs to geelong as well.

Too much smoke to not be a fire going on here with a truth to it

I'm very iffy on SDK as a ruck but it's much better to have your valued players under contract than not.

Good result.
The $ for SDK’s deal will be very interesting if that info is released.

It would be pretty instructive on how valuable we think he is.

If he is being signed to be our ruck for the next 3 years we are in a bit of strife.

He's our ruck for the next 12-20 games. Nessie is coming to the surface

The only way we'll know about the $ is if we see the brown paper bag, although we might get an idea from the acreage of the farm they gift him.

But I doubt they'll let us know about either, because we don't want other clubs to Cotton On.

Have they released how big the farm is? Perhaps a herd of cows as a signing bonus.

No matter where we are playing him …its good to have him signed ..although it probably kills having a fist full of trade collateral.
