Yeah, I just don't see Rowell moving.

I mean I also didn't see Cameron moving so could be wrong

As long as GC continue to build , then I could see Rowell signing for another couple of years. Wanting to be a part of their first finals etc…. and they do have a talent and more coming. Hard to walk away from that.

Oh I just literally meant Oliver wouldn't have flipped those results. He's been rubbish this season despite getting his hands on it a good amount.

Who knows, maybe we could return him to A grade status but I doubt it.

Yeah i don't even think we need him to be A grade. We have plenty of outside and link up players. Our mids don't get their hands on it enough to use them.

His lack of defensive running might create another concern though

No doubt Oliver will have his best game in 3 years against us this weekend, but I'd recommend catching some other Melbourne games throughout the season. Has a negative hurt factor with ball in hand, while his direct opponent carves the Dees up around the ground or at stoppages.

Maybe with our better link players it could work if we told him to never kick it, but his handball accuracy and distance has reduced tenfold since 2021. Anything over 1m is a hospital handpass, so I think that's why he specialises in the 50 cm gives now.

11 coaches votes in his last 24 games, most of them as Melbourne's 1st or 2nd banana midfielder.

I can only see Oliver coming to Geelong now is if Melbourne will finish bottom 5 or so. And for both parties of Melbourne and Oliver can come to an agreement think Oliver won't be in the next time of them challenging for a flag and they can get a good decent pick and they can wipe of his salary to another club..
So for us to get Oliver let's hope Melbourne finishes as close to the bottom as possible 🙏
I have gone very very cold on him and really don’t think he should be the player we should be chasing both for perfomance as well as his off field stuff

Feels very different to me.

If the Suns do have a markedly better year, then things will be continuing to look like they are on the up and up for them. Whereas the Giants went from a GF in 2019 to 10th in 2020, when Jez decided to pack it in up there.

Jez was also clearly attracted by the opportunity to live closer to home and to embrace a country lifestyle. I don't believe Rowell is all that fussed about either of these factors.

We also faced the reality that it really did seem as though it was GWS or Geelong for Cameron. By contrast, any number of cashed-up Victorian clubs all appear to be part of a genuine race to prise Rowell out of Gold Coast. There's no media undercurrent suggesting that we are 'leading the race' here, as far as I can see.

On the basis of all that, I'm already reasonably resigned to the fact that he won't be coming. Doesn't mean I don't think he would be a transformational and generational player for us. Doesn't mean I won't be barracking hard against the Suns in every single game they play this year. It's simply that a sober view of the facts as they are unfolding gives me no sense that he's more likely to lob with us than any of the other Victorian clubs clamouring for his signature.

And I'd think he's actually about 75-80% certain to re-sign with the Suns already, anyway. So it's only hope itself that's leading me to stay invested in the possibility at all at this point.

Man those highlights don't do justice to his game. The hard running to get into those positions and then some of his contested work was outstanding.
Very clean in the conditions and an athletic beast. Yes he's been not been perfect but he looks to me like he's transitioning from athlete to player

Very powerful. Rarely do I see it in a footballer but his hips are super strong. Very exciting if he begins to grasp the basics of the game. Just needs to run with the ball at that same velocity and no one is going to be tackling him to the ground.

Surely Ken comes home next year as an assistant? He doesn’t like the big city lifestyle so that rules out 11 clubs across Melbourne and Sydney, he won’t switch to Adelaide

I think he’s a good chance to come home and therefore drag Butters with him.
I am hearing the same tremors from the foundations at KP.

Would he want to step into an assistant coaching role, especially as a club where he was previously an assistant?

Or would be be more likely to either take time away from the club, or look for something like a director of coaching role

Such a good people manager. Would be an asset.

On Gettable it was mentioned that clubs think they can get Butters this year but Cal thinks Port won't let him go. He mentioned that Cats and Dogs are the one's going hard for him.
All speculation, but from a pure trust POV, I'll take this over McClure's opinion any day.

It's been proven he just trawls BigFooty lmao.

Not many other jobs out there in the real world where you can earn over 250k without any qualifications.

he would make a good assistant coach
Once you have been King, it's very very very hard to go back to being a Prince.

I know a couple of younger coaches who had false starts at a Senior Coach job went back to assistant coaching (Vossy et al), but there is no way that someone who has run his own team for a decade would consider an assistant role.

Mark Williams spent 11 years coaching Port and has been an assistant at GWS, Richmond, and Melbourne since
