Probably one of his worst games - cut out completely by Dumpster. Then in the third quarter I watched as he tried pathetically to shake a tag by going to Lenny Hayes at a stoppage - only Lenny ended up with the ball and Gia ended up about 15 metres away. Absolutely insipid performance by one of our 'leaders'.

Compare his game to St Kilda's small forwards in Milne and Schneider who were energetic and lively all night, quicker and stronger in the contest. Gia is a smart and skillful player but time and time again comes up short when the heat is on.

I believe he would be lucky to get a game if we had a new coach next year. If we are going to make some tough calls I say put Gia up for trade to Gold Coast (or someone else) and see if we can get some picks.

Gia....where were you?

He was standing beside Boyd of course - both watching their opponents run off them. Then they both started pointing here there and everywhere directing traffic. Pretend leaders.

But the Ward kiddie was bloody good wasn't he! That's what leadership looks like Gia.

Eade has to take some of the blame too. If you have a player who is a loser in that position then make a move. Try him on the ball, half back, just dont let him sit there all night and see Dempster beat him.

Not much initiative show from the coaches tonight with him. I agree gia was poor but what was Eade doing?

yes, he played shit:thumbsdown:

but gia was sadly where most of our forwards were all night - hopelessly outnumbered with eades unwillingness to make the saints backmen accountable, or he was the recipient of woeful entries into our forward 50

but i admit, he still could have maybe gone into the midfield and tried to salvage something to which he didnt:thumbsdown:

He might as well have been at DFO looking for a pink shirt cause I didn't see him for the last 3 weeks barring the 2nd half against Sydney last week. This guy is meant to be the vice captain? LOL we are so screwed if he takes the captaincy

Boyd was getting the ball at least!

And yes, great game from Ward. Probably the hardest effort to win the ball I've seen from a bulldogs player since my namesake was around.

He just CANNOT be captain next year. Cooney seems like he is building for the role.

We're a better chance when Boyd ISN'T getting a touch. I hope Reid comes on next year cause Boyd is a liability with the ball in his hands.

Cooney for captain is the way to go. Cooney wants the job and it could be the thing that takes him to a whole new level. If not Cooney, then Murphy for a year or so until one of the younger players are ready. Gia and Boyd will not be in our best 22 if we are to win a flag in the next couple of years.

Unfortunately the match committee seem to love them both though. I guess they have to decide i f we want to be a premiership threat or a good team that regualarly plays in the finals.

Our club has always struggled with these decisions.

Well our President, whom I admire greatly, has said that only a Grand Final is a pass in 2010. I'm hoping that he is good to his word and the club becomes much more ruthless and also more bold.

Playing the good old boys because they are popular with the coach and their peers is a loser mentality. So is having an ultra-conservative match committee and a coach who thinks that ranting and raving is good communication.

I'm 52 now and getting really, really impatient. I'll have to change my user-name to VeryLongWait. ;)

whoever is captain has to be both a good communicator on the field who is not afraid to talk, and they must be able to be put into the in the action when the going is tough - i would have murphy or cooney !

Gia just doesn't present himself in these big games, time to be moved on, simple as that. If he is our next captain, I'll spew up!
Cooney & Griffen our new leaders.

I like Murphy but I think his knee may not last for much longer. Hobbled off once again. For me its Griffen or Ward. Cooney would not be an issue but I think he likes to be in the background.

:thumbsu: Couldn't agree more - anyone but Gia. I'm sorry, he may be Bulldog through & through, but so am I. Come & sit in the grandstands & barrack like I do Gia. So disappointing so often when it counts. CANNOT be Captain.

it seems his career will be just one big tease, surely cannot be our next captain.

doubt any other clubs would be interested to have him.

Gis is funny - had a few good games this year - when we had a few injuries to mid fielders, he stood up and i thought he turned the corner ,

but he goes missing far too much form my liking, especially in big games

i am undecided on him as he is a tease, as has been mentioned in the thread already

certainly not the worst, but by god he lets us down too often

Not fit to be a Club captain, may well be good behind the scenes but it is DEEDS not WORDS that win the day. Sorry mate, you are a very good player and have value but just have let us down too many times.

David Copperfield makes a good living from disappearing acts, he's a millionaire and married a supermodel, but based on Giansiracuras' performance tonight, he clearly has a bit to learn.

When he popped up in the goal square that one time I thought the trick was over, but he's a showman, Gia, and made sure there was a second act.

Don't compare Boyd with Gia.

Boys has a serious dip every game. He just has terrible skills. I'm sick of people criticising players for not being very good at execution. All you can ask for is that they thrown themselves in and give it their all.

Boyd does that. Gia does not.

Any idea why he was moved from being an on-baller after he played so well in that role earlier in the year? Struggling to re-collect the reasoning behind that. He's certainly a second rate small forward.
