i dont as you indicate remember the game but i have now done a crash course in 'electronic records'. Churhills figures v maffra are - 05/06 rd 1 1/18 umpires lambie & prout, 06/07 rd 6 4/25 no umpires recorded, 07/08 rd 1 0/40 umpire geishen. was not hard to work out which game the lynch poster was referring to. please expand on the 'another little incident'

The incident I am referring to is you and I drinking Pina Colada's until quarter past 4 at Ringers.

Yeah what is the go here any one shed some light??? Is a terrific concept in my opinion and provides younger players with neccesary experience at country week.

Yeah, was a good concept. Is dead now, so, I wouldn't waste your breath on it. I tried and tried and tried to convince people that we should have pushed ahead with it last year, however, it was decided that it should go into recess for one year and then be overhauled, improved and done again in 2009/2010. At the meeting, I said that if it is stopped for 1 year, then, it will never go ahead again, and wouldn't you know it, there has been absolutely no mention of it this season. Was very frustrating.

I know Jim Cox used to attend trainings and umpire in the nets. Not sure about the others.

I have been thinking about the "no ball" and why didn't the umpire just call it a dead ball, if he thought it was going to be a no ball called it and then realised it wasn't. The ball can be deemed dead as an incorrect decision was made. This way he is admitting his mistake and no one is 'harmed' in the process.

Exactly Gus. Just call a dead ball and no one can really complain about the outcome then.

Bowler wouldn't have complained about bowling someone and then been dead balled??????????????????????

The only person happy with a dead ball is the batter. The situation that happened bowler is happy. I am sure the call would not have altered the batsmens shot.

I have a great idea - The umpire get it right!! It is an easy part of umpiring. Foot over line no-ball.

The same umpire dead balled me for grunting loudly when i bowled this year. Then put me in the book for the same issue. Last year he dead balled me twice for close in fielders bobbing when crouching.

Seems like this umpire needs a lesson in communication!!

Some pretty stupid stuff said there warrior.

The situation was; ball called no ball, batsmen not out, umpire says sorry legal delivery batsmen out. Surely there is some doubt there.

We are all humans and I am sure you have made a mistake warrior, we cannot expect umpires to be fool proof, hell even test umpires get it wrong.

But all i would want if I was playing would be a fair outcome, that would be to call the ball dead. If not for the umpire changing his mind then nothing would have eventuated and the only person knowing what happened would be the umpire himself!

I don't see how communication would help the umpire, to stop him putting players in the book maybe a better grasp of the rules would be more suitable.

Also, why is a Sale City B grade player playing GCL??? Going by averages surely one of Brad Scott, Anthony Scott, Tom Tudor or Matt Goodwin would be better considering they are playing at A grade level!

I saw neil minto played gus.

He did play country week last year though and is currently representing Gippsland in the Under 21s VCCL , its not his fault that his side plays B grade and that he is loyal to them. I know for a fact that he had been offered by Sale City to play in Traralgon, but they declined (apparently). From the outside it would appear a strange decision in regards to picking a B grader to play in a rep squad.

I would have picked Brad Scott but I am not a selector, purely on the basis that minto batted at eight which isn't really going to influence the game in a one dayer (except Dave Roberts who batted at 8 haha) and the fact he doesn't bowl, i would have thought giving Brad a go and maybe bowling him for a few overs would be good for the youngster.

There is a precedence, Way back in my day (1960's) Brian Muggleton played for the RAAF in B grade that was teir highest grade but he played gcl and country week

If you are bowling and the umpire does not call a no ball, the batsmen skies the ball, a catch gets taken, you all run in to celebrate and then the umpire calls a no ball, surely you would not be happy as the bowler. This is basically the reverse of what has happened to Chris.

True story. A couple of the Sale City crew were supposed to play with my team in the TDCA, as our Captain formerly coached Longford in the 90's. We were supposedly going to get a batsmen and an opening bowler for a couple of games before Xmas, and then they were going to decide if they continued in the TDCA or returned to the SMCA. Didn't eventuate however, for whatever reason, which i'm assuming is because ultimately the players didn't want to come. We were pretty keen for it to happen from our end, as we're currently 3rd, and now have 3 of our better players out of A Grade, with little depth, so a couple of quality cricketers from the SMCA would have been very handy.

Does the big logan man still wear the wide brim hat and chew hubba bubba?

I am fairly dissapointed with the coverage that is occuring for SMCA in the paper, I really think it needs a revamp. I notice that Chris Stanlake does a really good job for the express, so i am thinking that maybe a current player or recently retired player would know more about individual players thus giving us a better "wrap" of the coverage.

I still laugh at getting called Stan Anstee for a while there.

The traits of Loges haven't changed, eg walking like he's carrying a slab under each arm, smoking cubans like their going out of style, chewing gum etc. Not making the runs he did in his prime, but is a very good captain, and is good for our club, which doesn't possess a lot of leadership in the ranks. Very good off the field for us as well, with his sponsorship of the Club, which has enabled us to make some improvements to our facilities.

The SMCA coverage must have gone downhill, if it's 2nd rate compared to TDCA. Not having a go at Chris Stanlake, as he says his articles are highly edited by The Express, which is why they are sometimes fairly brief. Atleast he does have a vast knowledge of the players, given that he's played in god knows how many Grand Finals for Yinnar. Used to work in Sale, and thought the Gippy Times coverage was pretty good, but admittedly this was 10 years ago now.

Hey Nugget
if u r right about Joel bristow being the son of warren, its a wonder he didnt belt the bowler:eek:
he was the dirtiest player to play footy for sale (and stratford)
closely followed by Neil, saw him kick a bloke in the guts one day lifted him off the ground
Is Joel a dirty nobrain like the rest of his family

One more question
what relationship does that fat prick sam bristow have to the others?
every time maffra plays us he kills us
We need someone to take it up to him
Fowler had a snipe from behind, but shit himself when bristow turned around and fronted him
He is exactly the player we need at sale
what do you guys think:cool:

Can't comment on Warren or Neil as I never saw them play. No, Joel is not a dirty nobrain. He is a great young fella.

I'm not exactly sure whether you are bagging or complimenting Sam here. You call him a fat prick and then say he is exactly what Sale Football Club need. You seem surprised that Fowler was intimidated by Sam Bristow, as well??? Nick Fowler is the biggest behind the play sniper that has been seen in local footy for many a years. Sam Bristow is a big strong body and wouldn't be intimidated by "elbows Fowler". He has also been a key backman in 5 or 6 senior premierships, which is not a bad effort at 25 years old. As a side issue, him, as well as his brother Joel are both great people.

It amazes me some of the crap that I read on this thread. If you want to say that you have seen X player bat and you don't think they are any good, fair enough. Or, that you have seen X player's stats and he never makes any runs, fair enough. But, coming on here and attacking a family for no apparent reason without revealing who you are does not make you seem knowledgable or intelligent. It takes about as much front as a 12 year old smashing a letterbox in the middle of the night. I'm all for more people contributing to this forum, however, you are contributing nothing positive and just making yourself look like a fool.

I think you're a d!ckhead.

Watching a bit of cricket today. Dan Vettori has made three centuries this year and has 700+ runs at 60. Bats at number 6 now.

Doesnt say much for his top order, eh?

Incidentally, any personal attacks will be deleted from here on, in. I havent been reading a lot of the crap that gets posted on here but I will start reading it now.

You have all been warned.

N.B. This is not an attack on this post, Sneaky.

Thanks for that plugger.

I am one that has learnt the value of not attacking people on this forum...the hard way

Anyway, some cracker games this weekend in SMCA.

College v Sale (the two inform teams)
Bundy v Stratford (stratford winning last two, bundy losing last two)
Maffra v Wurruk (dissapointing loss to college looking to rebound, wurruks match winners are in good touch)
RK v B/Briag (RK good game last week brad scott is a star, B/B were in good positions just couldn't capatilise, Phillips a big loss???)

The two inform teams meet in sale and college, if college can defeat sale and stratford defeat bundy opens the door ajar for a very tight run home.

This year more than any means that you have to beat teams ahead of you to make finals, that is the advantage as in the last couple of years teams were still capable of making finals without actually beating anyone ahead of them (by getting outright wins and a favourable draw).

Stratford are one of those teams at the moment that have put themselves in a position where they force there own destiny and the same could have been said about B/B and Wurruk (if they had of defeated stratford)

Other than Sale chasing down over 200 against Wurruk at the slowest ground in Australia, results probably went to schedule on the weekend. Stratty always had too many for Briag, not many sides chase down over 200 against College, and no one chases down 240 against anyone, so, RK were always in the box seat against Bundy.

We all said early on that this looked like being an even season, and it appears to be turning out that way. Boisdale, RK and Wurruk appear to be out of contention for the finals, however, they have all put up strong performances against finals sides. With some of the top sides playing each other in coming rounds, and all of those sides mentioned having the chance to play the sides they need to pass, anything is possible.

Stratford appear to be finding some of the form that most know they are capable of. After a stuttering start, they have strung a couple of wins together, however, batsman posting match winning scores still appears to be their weakness. Its not every weekend you will have a 200 run 7th wicket partnership to turn a mediocre score into the highest score of the year. However, they have plenty of players capable of making those big scores, and luckily enough for them, their players have saved most of them up for the business end of the season.

The top 4 are seperated only by 8 points, with Stratford breathing down all of their necks, and if Sale are to beat College this weekend, the top 4 will be seperated by an even smaller amount. If someone was to accurately predict the finishing positions of the top 5 from here, they would be a much better man than me. In past years, it has been possible to not only predict finishing positions, but, also how many points each team would finish on.

As stated by Nugget, the fate of each side lies completely with them, and outright results against below standard sides and favourable draws are no longer an issue. All points this year are hard earned and the sides that play off in the finals will have certainly earnt it. At the halfway mark of the year, it is wide open for who will finish in the top 2 spots, and who will play off in the grand final.

Oh, and Nugget, spot on about Brad Scott, the spell he bowled against Stratty was fairly impressive until Jack Tatt got a hold of him late, once the ball had stopped swinging. If the association is keen on promoting some youngsters into rep cricket, then he should be a certainty to play in the senior GCL side at some stage this year, and might be a bolter to sneak into the Country Week squad. There wouldn't be too many 16/17 year olds (sorry, I don't really know the guy) that have made 80 and taken 5 fa in the same game against a side touted as premiership favourites, so, congratulations to him on a massive weekend and a great start to the year.

Doesnt say much for his top order, eh?

I'm not sure how the form of a guy batting at 6 is an indictment on the form of the top order?? Adam Gilchrist was a great player, does that mean that Haydos, Alfie and Punter were no good? I don't really understand what you are getting at.

Batted at 8 the first 2 tests, made a 99 as well i think in the first test. They bought in southee for a batsman for this game.

He is a gun, should have been australian!
