also we'll probably watch 5-10 min and decide it's not worth our time.It appears that Ch10 have learned nothing from Ch7's disaster with Holey Moley.
Instead of putting the show on once per week, ideally on a Saturday night, they're stripping it across multiple nights. Who is going to watch 90 minutes of Gladiators, 3-4 nights per week? Talk about kicking a massive own-goal.
It's a real pity. I enjoyed watching the original Gladiators, back in the 1990s, and I was looking forward to this re-make. However, I'm unwilling to commit to watching 90 min of this, 3-4x per week. I doubt I'm the only prospective viewer they're losing.
They've shot themselves in the foot, and it will almost certainly crash & burn. However, they'll blame the show, when it was their own poor scheduling which created the disaster in the first place.
It’s quite meh, because you can’t recapture that 90s nostalgia. Liz Ellis is not a good fit as co-host.
I know they’re already casting for contestants for a 2nd season, but they shouldn’t bother.
I can’t imagine my old teenage self having a childhood crush for the likes of chaos.
agreedAlso the eyeline makeup is not necessary and actually quite distracting.
Agree the pauses are very annoying. Now I know where the HAM in Hammer comes from. Mark should tone it down a bit.
Well this 1st episode has been a bit of a disaster. An injury in the 2nd event. The big guy was probably still concussed after getting knocked out in duel on the first blow. All challenges have been non competitive. The gladiators dominating. The wall was so bad with two of the competitors falling off the wall without a hand laid on by a gladiator. Ana got a charity 5 points because halo was too stupid to not grab the body instead of the leg/shoe. The eliminator was a fizzer. lol at Ana falling asleep on the balance beam.
I’ll give it one more episode but I hope it improves and becomes more competitive.
Sandor Earl. Journeyman NRL player.Phoenix clearly the star Gladiator. Peak athlete. Cannot see many, if any, contenders beating him. It’s incredible to watch and I love it.
Considering it's 50% longer than the '90s version (90min vs 60min)... and 3x per week (instead of once)... I'd say they're in a world of trouble. Was very disappointing, we’ll see if it improves but way too much crap to jazz up the show into some modern crap.
What an odd show.
- They've picked 2 awful hosts for this show, especially when they're trying to do some of the sarcastic humour that doesn't suit either of them.
- The lack of music meant there was no ambience at all.
- I was confused by the games chosen. Of the old games, Duel is the most likely to cause head trauma, Powerball and Pyramid are among the 2 most likely to cause injuries.
- Despite all that, a lot of the games tonight felt slow motion, like they were trying not to hurt each other.
- The apparent storyline of going from contender to Gladiator is a bit of a fail I think.
Anyone know how long this is meant to go for? Cos I can see re-runs of the Dog House on Monday and Tuesday, and triple episodes of Gladiators on Friday or Saturday night by the end of January.
I feel like I spent half of tonight's show waiting for Hammer to ask people if they're ******* ready - unfortunately, based on the preview for tomorrow, they think that's going to become an iconic part of the show.
Sandor Earl. Journeyman NRL player.
I think he cheated on the duel. He anticipated the whistle and moved before it was blown to get the first shot in. Wouldn't of mattered anyway against a 19 year old.
Channel 10 have history of doing this. They did the same thing with Australian Amazing race. This show was perfect Saturday night light entertainment. It was silly, it was fun, it was once per week. Why anyone thought it would work well stripped 3x per week, on a week night, is entirely beyond me.
Ratings season starts on 11 February this year, so if it runs for 5 weeks then the last week will be during ratings period. Good luck with that!Channel 10 have history of doing this. They did the same thing with Australian Amazing race.
8 shows of qualifiers
4 shows of quarter finals
2 shows of semis
1 grand final
15 episodes. 3 a week for 5 weeks.
January is usually a non-ratings period for TV. They just need content to fill a slot. Channel 10 probably dont care above viewers. They didnt bother organising a live audience.
