Anyway, interesting allegations but he does come across as a bit precious. Gil trying to get out of a photo and people not holding the lift for him... for heavens sake. Almost comes across like he's had some type of breakdown and is blaming people for it, but he also wouldn't be the first person to have a legitimate claim and then dress it up with a bunch of superfluous nonsense.

In my industry there is no mandatory drug or alcohol testing but if there is the slightest suspicion you are under the influence of anything they’ll ask you to sit in a room by yourself while they call the people in to drug and alcohol test you.
Never happened to me of course.

As I've said, I don't think either should be tested for illicit substances on the basis of any illicit drug policy. Players must get tested for banned substances to participate in the sport.

It's all conjecture at this stage. I find a lot of Bartlett's claims quite dubious. He's essentially alleging he lost his job and was frozen out of the league for a suggestion. The AFL could have simply just 'taken it under consideration' and quietly buried it.

Sorrento Pub is frequented by many Demons ( and other club players) over the summer period, and I’ve seen Goodwin there many times having a drink and socialising. Nothing wrong with any of that. What an absolute beat up.
BTW I’ve also seen Gill stagger out of there shitfaced after the Portsea Polo one year.

Bartlett sounds like a bitter, petty man. He missed out on being part of Melbourne's first flag in 60s years and now he is out for revenge.

I have heard a certain other coach of a recent Victorian premiership club has also had gambling and alcohol issues, but that club stood by their man, which I find refreshing.

I have no doubt the majority of footy fans will back Goodwin in (as they should)

As a Boston Celtics fan, i am still bitter we sacked our last coach Ime Udoka, cause he couldn't control his boner and have affairs with a very influential wife of an high up executive at the club (we replaced him with a young dud in Joe Mazzulla)

As long as the MFC/Dees players are not unduly influenced or affected by Goodwin's alleged indiscretions, what is the problem ?.

Caro Wilson just spent the whole pre season with sanctimonious lectures about Al Clarkson and his supposed bad behaviour, which would have made Helen Lovejoy and Ned Flanders cringe in embarrassment.

There will always be flawed/imperfect coaches and players in footy..

The fact footy identities are now supposed to be held up to greater moral scruples and behaviour than our politicians really annoys me.

No it doesn’t. Hair testing is very, very rare. Urine testing used to be common but becoming less so, mouth swabs are the most typical today.

But if you're overseeing the training and well being of a bunch of people including teenagers and early 20's kids, you need to hold yourself to a higher standard and maybe the AFL needs to oversee things a bit more.

The accusation of a coach not being allowed to go to a pub and have a few beers and a couple of bets with the players is astonishing to me. Team building and bonding not allowed? And I've been in the corporate world world almost 20 years and seen teams function better when the coach/boss comes across as one of the guys, makes the tough conversations a bit easier

As for drug testing the administration, why would would one club allow itself to go through that if the rest of the league didn't have too? No way 90% of people would accept that, even if they didn't have anything to worry about

His mrs tried to commit suicide on the night of the preliminary final but then he still ants to attend a match the following fortnight.......Not something I would probably be doing if I was in that situation

For what ever reason the club is united as a whole now he is gone

We don't know all the facts, but it's strange that they stopped him entering the change rooms. Did they take the same stance with all ex players and administrators?

Poor if true, I agree, everyone coming together at the same level can create strong bonds and culture, as long as people aren't stepping too far outside of exceptable behaviours

Seems like I am older, as I have been part of the corporate world just shy of 40 years. Techniques have changed dramatically, but nothing wrong with old school bonding sessions, but one size doesn't fit all

This is the concerning attitude. Great organisations, have no fear of being visionaries, or embracing new methods.

If there was drug issues, why not embrace a testing process, a blanket procedure to stop illegal activities?

That's great, but it doesn't absolve an organisation of past poor behaviours.

On the flip side, I wouldn't have gone public unless it was necessary to expose any wrong doing by the club or to an individual

Everyone who has worked in media/football in SA knows about Goodwin and his drinking and "recreational" activities. It's been a long, long pattern of behaviour that has never really changed.

This famous story back from 2005 sort of glosses over the fact that this incident happened at like 10am in the morning, Goodwin was ****ing blasted and had clearly been awake for a long-ass time on a massive bender.

has apologised following allegations he threatened to kill a photographer.
The Adelaide Football Club has denied the claim but conceded the star player told the photographer: "If you use those photos, I will punch your lights out".
Goodwin and other Crows members were drinking at a city hotel morning when a photographer from Adelaide's Advertiser newspaper started taking their photos.

The newspaper said Goodwin approached photographer Tait Schmaal and told him: "If you run any photos, I'll f***ing kill you".
The paper reported that Goodwin then pushed Schmaal against a wall and pressed his forearm against Schmaal's throat, threatening: "You're f***ed if you run this".


The paper, which dedicated four pages to the incident on Friday, said Schmaal had not entered the hotel but remained on the public footpath at all times.
In a statement posted on the Adelaide Football Club's website, chief executive officer Steven Trigg said Goodwin realised what he did was wrong and had since spoken to Schmaal and apologised.

I don't even understand why he is suing. He tried bringing in a policy at club level that was rejected by his board and then quit. Somehow that's the club, the AFL and Channel 9's fault. If there were issues with Goodwin's behaviour - well, that was the club president's job to sort it out. You take the coach aside and explain this is what we expect of you as senior coach. You screw up and we give you the boot. Make it clear of what is expected and the ramifications of not adhering to the expectation. The vague reference to serious behavioural issues means nothing unless we know what that actually means.

As for the all of the negative media stuff he's claiming, this is the first time I've ever heard of the guy.

Completely acceptable and more important absolutely required

In a mining company the risk is drugs vs trucks and heavy machinery. but you can't have the bosses in the head office leading one lifestyle and enforcing another onto workers for a variety of reasons including fairness, culture and enforcement of policy (please refer criminal negligence concepts for further detail)
