MFC Million Dollar Seat Bonanza

A wealthy Melbourne benefactor has teamed with new Melbourne CEO, Paul McNamee, and is using his own means to ensure the Melbourne v Fremantle match at the MCG will not be witnessed by a paltry attendance. As each paying supporter (non-members) enters the ground they are issued with a general admission ticket with seat allocation. One lucky punter will be one million dollars richer, should they be sitting in the "MFC Million Dollar Seat". At half time, a seat will be randomly selected, and the lucky supporter, upon presenting their ticket, will be one million dollars richer. The "MFC Million Dollar Seat" lottery will only include only general admission adult seats that have been sold, so there must be a winner.

Melbourne President Paul Gardner and AFL Chief Andre Demetriou have fully endorsed the idea, and it is hoped that the "MFC Million Dollar Seat" will enhance the crowd to around the 45,000-50,000 mark. As Melbourne CEO Paul McNamee quipped, "A general admission seats costs $20, there will be around 30,000 general admission seats sold, so you have to be in it to win it. The odds are definitely better than Tattslotto. We are hoping all Melbourne, Fremantle and general footy public come along, it will be a great event."

Some observers have described the event as a stunt, which it may be. But one thing is for certain. The Melbourne v Fremantle match on May 4th, will record the biggest MCG crowd between the two teams. Melbourne is hoping to capitalise on the historic events, by registering their first win. This is the first of many such innovations that new Melbourne FC CEO has planned to introduce to reinvigorate the once AFL powerhouse.

The reason that, if this were true, you wouldn't just give the money to club is because you can't insure against it. If you put it up in a competition you can get insurance against the chances of it coming off and be covered even if somebody wins.

Sounds like massive horseshit to me though. I'm a member (for my sins..) am I OUT in this situation?

Jees, I dont care whether it is true or not. I saw it on A website, and heard it is going to be announced on tfs, from a colleauge.

go hawks. I will be at the Mel Fre game if it is on (MILLION DOLLARS IS A LOT OF CAMOOLA)

If it were true, which it isn't - id purchase a general admin ticket, walk out and go back through in and scan my membership.:thumbsu:

adds 2 to the gate tally and gets you in the running, the extra 20$ would just be participating in a glorified raffle with a chance of a big payout.

Its horseshit though.

The way I read it was it had to go off because the numbers were drawn from the tickets sold in which casse insurance would be irrelevant. Then again, since it is made up you are as likely to be correct as I am. I think the only reason the money isn’t given directly to the cub is that it is all BS. If it isn’t then I can’t see how the person can be smart enough to have a mil in the first place.

This is ridiculous. Wouldn't the Melbourne Footy Club be better off just banking the $1million from this bloke who likes throwing away money and just accept that there wont be many people at the game? The club would be much better off by an absolute mile.

I'm thinking the same. I think the Gemba report said North made about $600k for all Victorian home games last year, so a $1Million donation to the club would be much better.

Unless it has strings attached to it - they draw out a "lucky seat number" and someone has to be sitting in it with a reserved seat ticket. Who is going to bother buying a reserved seat at a game where you could just show up.

Or that they win the opportunity to win $1Million, like having to kick a goal from the 50m line, or pull their name out of a barrel where there's only a slight chance of winning.

I think it is increasingly looking like a couple of bigfooty posters making up some rubbish for attention (yes, i know - thats never happened here before!).

Re: Go to Melb v Freo, 1 million dollars up for grabs/kick-to-kick on the ground

id go to the melb freo game just to have a kick on the mcg after the game, apprently there allowing the crowd to go on the ground after the game so i heard this morning.

When i was at the Melb V Carlton game there was something on the big screen about a chance to win a million dollars.

I didn't pay much attention to it, but did anyone else on here(who went to the game) read it? or remember what it said?

This could actually be true.....

Hmm..What if the selected seat is empty?

You can guarentee that the seat selected will be empty. The computer will have all of the seat numbers in it and they will pick one that has not been allocated to someone attending.

Therefore, they don't have to hand out the money and they potentially get a huge crowd to the match.

This was also posted on the Melbourne supporters site but its not there any more (funny that).

Nice little ruse to try and create more interest in the game with this little fantasy. I did notice that all the posters who have given it some credibility to keep the momentum going support the Melbourne Football Club.

The guy who posted this has scooted off and there is no link.

It's bollocks.

BTW, who wouldn't want to see the likes of Nathan Carroll and Josh Carr running around anyway? Will be the game of the season....

that's been made impossible due to your diving gary junior ;)
