MFC Million Dollar Seat Bonanza
A wealthy Melbourne benefactor has teamed with new Melbourne CEO, Paul McNamee, and is using his own means to ensure the Melbourne v Fremantle match at the MCG will not be witnessed by a paltry attendance. As each paying supporter (non-members) enters the ground they are issued with a general admission ticket with seat allocation. One lucky punter will be one million dollars richer, should they be sitting in the "MFC Million Dollar Seat". At half time, a seat will be randomly selected, and the lucky supporter, upon presenting their ticket, will be one million dollars richer. The "MFC Million Dollar Seat" lottery will only include only general admission adult seats that have been sold, so there must be a winner.
Melbourne President Paul Gardner and AFL Chief Andre Demetriou have fully endorsed the idea, and it is hoped that the "MFC Million Dollar Seat" will enhance the crowd to around the 45,000-50,000 mark. As Melbourne CEO Paul McNamee quipped, "A general admission seats costs $20, there will be around 30,000 general admission seats sold, so you have to be in it to win it. The odds are definitely better than Tattslotto. We are hoping all Melbourne, Fremantle and general footy public come along, it will be a great event."
Some observers have described the event as a stunt, which it may be. But one thing is for certain. The Melbourne v Fremantle match on May 4th, will record the biggest MCG crowd between the two teams. Melbourne is hoping to capitalise on the historic events, by registering their first win. This is the first of many such innovations that new Melbourne FC CEO has planned to introduce to reinvigorate the once AFL powerhouse.
