Not according to the AFL Players Association:
'HAS EXISTING CLUB MATCHED OFFER - NO: Move to new club OR Stay with existing club'
It's a moot point as we're not going to give him anywhere near Essendon's offer, but you are just wrong.

Do you know what the term "match" means?
I'll give you some help "One that is exactly like another; a counterpart. b. One that is like another in one or more specified qualities".
The only thing that St Kilda can change in terms of manipulating the payments to Goddard is to change the amount paid over the 4 years. ie Essendon offers 800k for 4, St Kilda can offer 900, 900, 700, 700 if they wanted to.
Can't blame an ambitious bloke for wanting to leave a club that has no ambition.
I borrow from the Robbo playbook of not necessarily having to know what I'm talking about.
It would be odd nonetheless to accept the lesser offer after signing the 41 thingo, no?
plus throw in a signed photo of Lenny Hayes - presented by Lenny Hayes?
I reckon some private golf lessons from Ogilvy could get him get across the line. What if he really loves the Saints as he says and they get close to the Essendon's offer plus throw in a signed photo of Lenny Hayes - presented by Lenny Hayes? And he thinks close enough is good enough - I will stay. I think the close enough is good enough rule is fair if the player changes their mind.
Wtf is Essendon thinking... Goddard isnt even an elite player..

St Kilda Football Club can confirm that Brendon Goddard has accepted an offer from Essendon Football Club as a restricted free agent and will be departing the Saints.
Despite a significant three year offer made by the Saints, which appropriately respected the Club’s player payment model, Goddard has elected to leave the Club.
St Kilda Head of Football, Chris Pelchen said, “We made a significant offer to Brendon that was relative to both his position and other players within the team. While we are disappointed at his decision to leave the Saints, we are absolutely committed to our ‘team first’ philosophy in relation to player contracts.”
I'm not wrong. Goddard clearly wants to go to Essendon. If St. Kilda don't match the offer, then he goes there. I'm not even sure what you're trying to say I'm wrong about. Are you saying that because Goddard could theoretically, having sought the offer from Essendon, decide at the last minute to just stay at St. Kilda? Learn about implicature and the principal of charity. If St. Kilda decide to match the offer, that does not guarantee that they keep him. Conversely, if they don't it does guarantee that he gets to Essendon.
If you're going to be a pedant, you ought to know some basic principals of argument.
Cod go either way for Essendon, but it's safe to say he never really lived up to his selection.
