Ins: Davis, Macaffer

Out: Cloke, Anthony

Interesting to note no real replacement for Cloke and they will go relatively small in the forward line. I wonder how much game time in the ruck Jolly will play.

Congrats macaffer after a stellar 2's performance.

Suprised to see Davis ahead of Medhurst... Lets hope he does us proud!

Going small against the Saints failed miserably last time, so I'm not terribly confident of it working this time. Mind you, the Saints probably aren't in as good form as last time we played them.

Cloke is super important to our structure, it's a massive job for L Brown to play his role.

Why do you say That?

I thought we Dominated the 1st 3 QTR and was let down with bad Goal Kicking

Just raises the question of what the f*ck is going on with Medhurst. Rounds as an emergency ahead of him? I consider him part of the best 22 if fit, and I was of the understanding he was pretty much over his foot injury. Is it a confidence thing? They don't want to bring him back against the strongest side in the AFL?

This is a very convenient way of looking at it.

We kicked poorly, but it was at least partly because the Saints defended very well, and allowed us to get the ball in less dangerous areas on the field. Check how many marks we took inside 50m in that game, and you'll see why we kicked 4.17.

We took 12 marks inside 50 and they took 11.

They took 424 disposals to our 337, had 38 hitouts to 28 and had 130 marks to 73. Yet they only scored 10.8 to our 4.15 - we essentially had a better disposal to score ratio and only lost because of our poor conversion. I would say we defended better than them for most of the match, too.

EDIT: Hah, your signature TRS recalls the weapon that DID slow them down - "The Shit down defence"!

Taking something from the way Carlton beat them maybe? Why wouldn't medhurst be in then?

We might be seeing some more run and carry through the guts on Saturday. That would seem to me the best way to get the ball into the F50 before they set up that defence. We'll see...

Yes, but their midfielders were good enough to run through the corridor and kick goals. When we couldn't kick enough goals from our marks inside 50m, our mids didn't make the most of our remaining opportunities. They were forced to take shots on the run from the pockets, or snaps under pressure.

...and, therefore, Dave's comment "I thought we Dominated the 1st 3 QTR and was let down with bad Goal Kicking" rings true :p

Soz, in an argumentative mood tonight. I should eat less sugar.

I probably didn't explain myself very well. My point is that beating out the Saints (by one) in marks inside 50m doesn't mean we dominated, in fact as their main marking target was out of action for much of the game we should have been further in front on that stat.

As long as we don't bomb.

How thick can you get, bombing to Leon time after time.

absolutely stunned medhurst is not in the side, he had to be in instead of lockyear or davis. i fear that we will lose this game at the selection table like we did the brisbane game. i can see gilbert and fisher dominating down back for them as their pressure up the ground will force us to kick long. i feel so sorry for dawes already. run and carry is the obvious gameplan but we need another marking forward. whoever gets dawson either dawes or brown we need to play them deep in the goalsquare to give as much room in the forward 50 as possible.hav to isolate their defenders

Yeah me too. It's gonna be extremely hard for him without Cloke but also the way the Saints defenders zone off to make it 3 on 1. Just hope his confidence doesn't take a major hit. Cloke should feel like sh1t as he has let his team mates down big time.

Hmmmm it is an interesting debacle.... I wonder if they are actually gonna make gilbert accountable or not... If they can manage to pull him out of that hole it would increase our chances a fair way. Maybe the Caff was bought in for this reason... Strong overhead and good pace. I think gilbert would have him in the air but on the lead.... good luck.

I'm a Macaffer fanboy, but Gilbert has him comfortably for pace.

Personally, I'd just instruct whoever's picked up by Gilbert to play as a defensive forward and prevent him from going 3rd man up. Unfortunately if he goes to Davis again (I think that's who he had last time), it's not really plausible.

Making Fisher accountable would also help he has smashed us last 2 times.

Fisher and Gilbert both work as part of the Saints 7 man defence. 1 of them is always loose but if you make one accountable it affects the other and vice versa.

But regardless we can't afford to have them chopping off our inside 50's. MUST make them accountable..

I like the idea of a defensive forward but who would we play in that position?
