Plenty of teams share the same moniker as other teams in other leagues or codes. As long as its not in the same league it should be fine, its not like they invented that word.

When I first heard "Guards", it made me think of something along with lines of Guardsmen, which isn't such a bad name to take, ignoring that it has absolutely nothing to do with the Gold Coast beyond a bit of alliteration. Could have a coat of arms style logo, and a mascot decked out in a medieval suit of heavy armour with a massive pike.

...then I finally caught on that they meant lifeguards, which is a very very shit idea.

How about : Gamblers (logo- deck of cards with prominence to the Ace of Spades) or Gunz (yes with a z...hey if we're gonna copy the yanks we might as well go ..as the septics say "the whole 9 yards" ....logo.... crossed six shooters .. Guns n Roses style or AC/DC's Cannon from For Those About to Rock cover..as oppossed to in profile like Arsenal's)Alliteration is always good.

no. you were suggesting leaving it a year and see what comes up and what I was saying is theres not going to be any different names in a year to what there is now. no difference in picking the name now to in a years time... theres not going to be any new words to choose from as I said.

It isn't about new words magically appearing, it is about a name perhaps emerging after the team creates some sort of history and culture. Most of the Vic teams developed their monikers this way.

If they choose the Guns with a cannon logo then I will become their bitterest enemy from day one.
