2nds Gold Coast Reserves: Title Defense 2024

So we're in Melbourne visiting family
The boys realise the Suns are playing in Werribee
"Can we go?"

Get down there at half time expecting to see some nice footy:$

There was literally no mid field other than Ned Moyle
Don't give me Flanders-he was horrible and Hollands-please please please don't be a bust
I'm getting Scrimshaws about him

If you were wondering why he's not lacing up at The Gabba have a look at his least effort with a minute to go that cost the game-right in front of us
But the umpiring!

Stein also spent 10 minutes arguing with the goal umpire about the non goal to Werribee in the 3rd quarter
We were right behind it and -at best-it was over the goal post which are btw so short but you know-a middle aged fat guy was rewarding effort at that stage with Werribee so far down
So-an uncomfortably cold winters day in the Shit City watching our boys give away a game that should have been tucked away at half time
Awful
And who knew Rory T was doing defensive coaching for the VFL guys

And what's with Brock up forward???

Don't mean to body shame but even in the pre season Hollands rig stood out as being a lot sloppier than the other players. Based solely on that and now his performance you have to question what happened this off season and why he is this far off the pace.

Yes mabs just walked the last minute after 15 mins on the bench, watched his opponent run down and win the game. Breathtakingly lazy footy.

It’s painfully obvious Maribor is not an endurance player. Always puffing after any major run or play.

He needs to stay close to goal as often as possible. That’s where he plays—body his defender or get into open space for easy mark with speed. Unfortunately, he has burst only. He has huge strengths, but also obvious weaknesses.

I don’t think he will ever have massive endurance either, as it hasn’t gotten better at all.

We went out to listen to the 3/4 time talk and Mabs was really showing leadership to the forward group
Certainly struts and talks like a leader but some of his on-field efforts are just appalling
Yes I suspect it has a lot to do with endurance
He's a big guy and it just seems he can't go with the defenders at a certain point
He'll give you 5 amazing moments per game but in today's footy that's just not enough unfortunately

He didnt ruck all game, and came off a 15 minute sit down,

Then walked.

Hes a superb athlete getting paid half a million bucks a year.

But again, thats why hes in the 2nds.

Where theres half a dozen blokes accumulating gold coast superannuation

Anyone (including the umpire) know the actual rule on rushing a behind?

To be fair, at $400k he's on the average salary for an AFL player and was our leading goal kicker last year.

On the commentary yesterday, they mentioned GC has only one VFL listed player (not AFL, not academy)

Anyone know who that is and why?

He lead our team in distance ran in a couple of the early AFL rounds so I wouldn’t suggest he was a bit lazy over summer.

Maybe symptomatic of us trying to turn him into a winger and his program being a bit too much endurance and not enough strength.

He is not, it was 4 years at $400k. He would have match bonuses, like any player.

There were reports Chol was on 400K. That's average salary now.

Yeah even in pre-season he was pretty much in that 2nd group behind Touk/Anderson etc which isn’t a bad effort.

It just feels like he is running around for the sake of running after trying to learn how to play wing over Summer, rather than trying to run to impact the game. Doesn’t really look to be playing on instinct at all. However, I am aware that may just be due to him not putting the required effort in.

If Dew/Drummond are still trying to make him on a wing happen then I am lost for words.
