Uwland and Lombard would hate being referred to as from Broadbeach. They are Burleigh Bombers through and through.
Fair enough. Unfortunately for them, they will always be credited to Broadbeach as it is the club they played for in their draft year. I'd like to give Burleigh more credit because they are becoming a bit of a powerhouse of juniors but unfortunately they are going to be forgotten a fair bit over the next few years. I'll never forget Jacob Dawson held on as long as he possibly could before switching from Burleigh to PBC in his draft year. The Burleigh boys are certainly a passionate bunch.

Anyway. Premiers woooo!

Bit like the old Burleigh Boardriders Club. Still a lot of tribalism on the Gold Coast.

It's going to be so good watching all this talent coming through the GC over the next few years.
I can't wait to see clowns like McGuire freaking out about it.

Impossible .Gold Coast is an AFL wasteland. The AFL is just burning cash here. All the high end talent is being developed in Tassie

Sad to say it but winning back to back in 2024 it going to be very difficult. We are losing at least 156 goals from our team with the top 3 goal kickers out the door in Burgess, McLaughlin and Chol.

Walter to kick that in the first 12 games 👀

Tbh you need a good vfl team generally to be a good AFL side.
You need depth atleast 6-8 ready to go players if the AFL side needed it
Not necessarily. Collingwood's reserves team barely squeezed into the VFL finals this year and got belted in the first round, yet their senior team goes all the way and wins the AFL flag. Geelong's reserves team didn't even make the VFL finals last year but they win the AFL flag.
Of course it's nice to have depth on your list but it's not necessarily true that you need a strong VFL team in order to be a good AFL team.

Both of those teams also don’t have the list concessions we have. We basically play a team of AFL listed players in the VFL each week….

AFL listed is a bit misleading, although true. Most didn’t play AFL much, if it all. And how many have been picked up by other AFL clubs at end of season? So they weren’t really at AFL level, either.

Now they do get to play as full time and train (most likely while studying for the younger ones), but most are on rookie level wages.

Right but we also saw Richmond claim both the AFL & VFL flags in 2019 and only one player competed in both of those GFs (Pickett). So you can't just say list concessions are the sole reason we won the VFL flag when we've seen other teams do it while missing their best 22 due to AFL commitments. Werribee had zero AFL listed players and they had no issue taking down a Brisbane side that included 15 or so AFL listed players in this year's prelim. Likewise, Southport had no AFL listed players when they took us down in the VFL prelim last year and that was a year that included our list concessions.

Ultimately, I think it's multifactorial and you can't just say list concessions mean you should win flags (otherwise we and GWS would have won more in the NEAFL) and you also can't say a strong VFL team is an indication of a good AFL team. Nothing is guaranteed at either level of football but when you have a dominant season like we did this year, you just hope it's an indication of things to come at the AFL level.

Didn’t say concessions was the only reason, but certainly didn’t hurt!
Other clubs have VFL only contracted players, but not sure they are full time “professional” footballers.

Not taking anything away from out VFL lads, but it does go to show what a great season / team Werribee, and Willi to an extent, had in 23.

Next closest stand alone club was the Sharks in 14th.

Our VFL reigning supreme !

So they fixture in the Sharks at home, 1 hour after the Suns at home............surely the brains trust could come up with something better than that.........to promote footy in a non-AFL state.....not like it's halfway thru the season.......it's the 1st bl**dy round for goodness sake......
