The new logo definitely has a retro 80s look to it so it already looks dated and it doesn't seem much better than their old logo.

I also don't see the point of changing the logo when you can barely even see it on their home jumper, it should be gold not red.

CEO Mark Evans said the club was unapologetic in its desire to be different.

"People are entitled to their views, but we want people to notice us and notice there's going to be something different in our approach," he said.

"Some people will love it, and some people will hate it. Players would probably run out in a hessian sack if they had to to try and win.

"I think it makes a really strong statement, almost like a Liverpool version of a guernsey."

It's not even hateable. It's just meh.

I like it.

People are always very quick to bag out new logos at the moment. Usually nothing beyond ‘that’s shit’ or ‘it looks like blah blah’. Social Media comment fodder I guess.

The Eagles even copped criticism when they launched their current one in 2017 - despite the fact that it’s obviously very solid….and yet Adelaide rolled with that ridiculous thing they’ve just replaced for nearly 10 years and people didn’t seem to notice.

The Suns new one is clean, works on a few levels (G/C/S, the Sun, the ocean, a football) and will allow consistent branding across a number of platforms, it’ll convert to black and white/ two tone colours easily and is simplistic enough for it to last a very long time.

My sense is that because they've been sh1te off the field since inception then most people's instinctive response is to hate on the Suns.

Is it the best logo and guernsey in the comp - no (best logo - Blues; best guernsey - Bombers/Tigers)
Is it the worst - no (worst logo - Port/Bombers; worst guernsey - Hawks)
Is it better than the old Suns logo - yes, by miles
Is it better that the old Suns guernsey - yes, not as much of an improvement as the logo, but still an improvement

Is theirs the worst club song - no (the WA clubs are engaged in a 30-year game of 'hold my beer' for the worst song - thank god the Eagles came along and stole that dubious honour from us a couple of years back)

Will they be a better team and make finals in the next 2-3 years - probably not
Will they get decent crowds to games - probably not
Will Dimma (like Clarkson) totally f*** his legacy by achieving nothing and leaving the club no better off than it was when he arrived - probably

Should never have been named the 'suns' in the first place, Karmichael Hunt was a bad move, Gary Ablett a bad choice as a leader, Eade a bad coach to start off with. The only thing they've ever gotten right was trading Harbrow in.

I don't mind the idea of the logo itself. But I only realised what it was once it was pointed out. And sure once you get your brain to adjust it's fairly clever in its simplicity and what its trying to do.

Problem is on the main jumper you can barely even see it and the thing as a whole is just... Lacklustre.

It looks like a logo for a bank/financial institution not a footy club.

It's the Gold Coast branch of the Bank of AFL.

AFL has sunk a lot of money into the venture.

I'm digging it. I think by way of the style of the logo I think it will become dated fairly quickly though because of the design but it's a bold rebrand and I think the red kit looks mint. The yellow one looks a bit silly but I dunno maybe it will be alright on tv. Wouldn't mind seeing it as light blue with a yellow logo, would look possibly better.

How is this so hard?

They have played 15 years in the worst uniform in the history of the league - an amateur design that made them look like Auskickers.

They've gone for a full reset and come out of it with the second worst design in the history of the league. It now looks even more like an Auskick outfit, but at least the hideous original logo is gone.

How is this so hard? They are the Suns and can do any of a thousand awesome sun inspired designs, and instead have stuck with this. You could give a local primary school class a colouring in sheet and a box of crayons each and I can guarantee all of them would manage something more inspiring
