The Northern Times Footy Coverage
The biggest game to date, Murrabit vs Wandella and the write up in today's edition is nothin short of pissweak. Even though Carter doesnt know the first thing about football, SURELY they could have sent him to the game to give a description of what happened in the game rather than looking @ the results and writing something a grade 6 student could have done. I think its time that the Northern Times employ someone who knows something about the game and send them to the match of the round every week.

Pretty cheap comments here switch the play. It seems that you may have a personel issue with Pat because these comments are completely off target with the good work Pat has been doing. I play under Pat and have heard every one of his speeches this year and think he is a good speaker. I have also been a teammate of his for almost 5 years and cant remember him ever pulling out of a contest, so you cant question his ability to get the hard ball when you have seen 1 game. The game that you speak of was possibly the wettest conditions we have played in for quite some time so kicking the ball off the deck is hardly grounds for this personel attack you've dished up, im sure you saw some other pretty crappy decisions being made that day. As a player and member of the committee, you can rest assured that Pat has the full support of the playing group and the UFC committee.

Nothing personnel at all there jimmy.Never met the bloke-were in the area for the weekend and went to have a look at a game of footy. If the above comments are what you truly believe then you are very easily pleased.

Interesting to read about Hay trying to go to the Picola League. It's a tough situation for them, realistically no GRFL club would complain if they leave, but no other leagues want them. What are they supposed to do? Any ideas? On a broader issue, what do you think is the future of the GRFL? Surely something will happen eventually with the North Central, Mallee and Central Murray Leagues?

Would some of the local towns in the CMFL look at relocating-Kerang aside-the others have only had moderate success.

Yes, as I understand, Hay's been trying to get out for many years. The current setup of the legues is a joke. The VCFL and AFL need to have a good look at grass root clubs before it's too late. Hay has a population of around 3000, and feilds teams in rugby league, rugby union, soccer and rules. They also have netball, austag (ladies rugby league), and a women's soccer team to contend with, along with plenty more sporting bodies in the town. This makes the sponsorship dollar very hard to come by.

The Hay Lions do this very well. Not only do they have the best ground in the GRFL, but also the best facilities BAR NONE (all the other codes in the town also have great facilities and committies also).

Hay's committe and coaches have worked long and hard this year (and many years prior) to keep fielding teams in all grades of football.

If something isn't done soon, the Lions will have a big white elephant taking pride of place next to the number 2 oval, without a club to fill it.

Scott Smith would have to be the odds on favourite for the league medal. Matt Hayward wont be too far behind either. Nige Dedini will poll well but prob wont get much more than two's. Tony Doran a shoe in for the reserves. Should poll well in most games. Shorely when ya have kick around 90 for the year ya gotta poll most weeks. Will be interesting game this week to see if Nully are a genuine contender for the finals against Wandella at Wandella too i think. Any other predictions

It will be Wandella's most physical game of the year to date. Nullawil would be unhappy about the previous meeting when they gave up a healthy lead so expect plenty of anger from them. I still think that Peter Moore is a good chance for the medal, his good games have 3 votes written all over them.

Why are wandella waiting til now to play "Physical Football"?
Just remember Kid the umpires are awarding the votes, so anything could happen? At least it aint Benny Carter giving the votes I spose, Doran might win the seniors if that were the case!

See Russell "the love mussell" Gillingham kicked a lazy 19 for Wandella 2s on the weekend-is he a chance to play seniors? An absolute gun in his day and would certainly let the opposition know he was about

So Quamby maybe the best bet for the GF

I think Macorna could host a successful GF with the new facilities and the resurfaced ground but I doubt they will bid for it.

On Russ Gillingham, he did play a senior game against Macorna a few weeks back and was pants pretty badly on that day. Super 2's player because of his smarts but to slow for senior footy now, gave away a lot of frees because he was caught behind to often. Great effort to kick that many though no matter what the standard.

So Quamby maybe the best bet for the GF

Keith was quoted on the radio in early june saying that Quamby had the best surface in Victoria or something like that, so Quamby could be the go....however I don't know how you can have a GF there when you can only just fit 21 players into thier change rooms....

9 hole golf course in pristine condish not enough space for a warm up?

Would have thought quamby is the obvious choice, dunno bout the best surface in Vic but definately in this comp. Parking Aplenty.

Ps Messenger, Macorna cant host GF as the destination is decided prior to finals, which Macorna will be playing in.

I beleive that there are three Clubs that have applied to Host Grand Final, Wakool, Quamby & Ultima. There is no reason as to why it could not be played at Ultima again, they did a great job last year. I know that there will be some speculation as to Ultima having 2 finals in one year. There appears to be nothing written down by GRFL, stating that a Club cannot host two Finals matches. There is a definate "Rotation" system in place for all other finals. The Grand Final is to be treated as a seperate issue. I ask all readers to make a selection, Wakool Ultima Or Quamby. Who has the best facilities from these three Clubs????????

Are you insinuating that Ultima should be favoured then?

Facilities are 1 aspect.

What about Ground Surface, Parking, Location (proximity to both Kerang and Swan Hill).

Ask the players where they would rather play. (I for one am not a fan of cleaning sand out of my crack)

Ask the supporters how far they want to travel.

In the interest of fairness above all else I think Quamby may get the nod.

I don't think the warm up is the issue. Imagine if 4 different clubs were in the rooms for the day. That's four sets of trainers and bags and whatever else. I know they are in their at different times, but there is overlap. You wouldn't be able to squeeze out a small fart in that space with that amount of people and gear! As far as ground surface and space around the outside go, hard to go past it!

Dead set couldnt swing a cat in the Quamby away rooms. Imagine a team gets up, wants to rejoice with their supporters yet its a struggle to fit 21 blokes and trainers in there. Will be the only thing going against Quamby, as the ground is second to none.

Snibs, if it is played at Ultima this year, why would you worry cause you wont be playing in it anyway. Take out your golf stick and get some more practise.

onthemoney, yes after nine years of hell at it was finally shifted from Kerang. Still beleive best venue is Murrabit, all we need to do is now drop the neutral ground from rules then we would get to play at the best venues available in league for all finals!!!!!
