Don Pyke Presser Drinking Game

Drink whenever Don Pyke says the following or an equivalent in his presser:

"It was an event, not a trend"

"Just a bad day"

"Nothing we did worked"

"We are capable of playing better football"

"We've shown we are better than this"

"Our players didn't stick to my proven structures"

"Our midfield was undermanned"

"I'll back the players in to respond"

Don Pyke is Neil Craig Mk2 - shoot me now

This is so true. So not only do we show no dare by playing kids instead of under performing 3rd tier player, but we would rather play injured players than take a "risk" on a kid. This is actually disturbing.
And then down the track when there is a genuine injury we have to take an injured Jenkins and Jacobs into a final because their understudys have no experience

I also think we need to explore this in more depth.

Total injury list including the pre-season and 2018:

Alex Keath (ankle)
Riley Knight (ankle)
Sam Gibson (hamstring)
Matt Crouch (hamstring)
Kyle Cheney (hamstring)
Lachlan Murphy (hamstring)
Eddie Betts (hamstring)
Brad Crouch (groin)
Andrew McPherson (groin)
Tom Lynch (side strain)
Andy Otten (achilles)
Rory Sloane (foot strain, still playing)
Taylor Walker (foot)
Jackson Edwards (quad)
Curtly Hampton (adductor)
Myles Poholke (hip)
Jordan Gallucci (interrupted pre-season)
Hugh Greenwood (interrupted pre-season)
Wayne Milera (interrupted pre-season)

Are 19 injuries over the pre-season and four rounds of football, including 5 hamstrings, considered normal?
Reeks of overuse

That's more a decision that needs to be made later in the year. 5 weeks from now only Smith may be our only best-22 player on our injury list. We will have Brad, Matt in the team, with Gibson, Keath and Cheney available for selection and things could start looking very positive for us. Many of the cogs in our team don't move unless they have another cog to move them along. If we move along our senior players at the wrong time, then our premiership window will close and we will become a useless middle-tier team.

IMO we can probably move one mid on at the end of year; Sloane if we get fair trade-value. Keep players like Dougie and Dmac because they are cheap. Dougy is still more than effective most the time.
Douglas and Mackay are stale tripe ... are you serious ??

I didn’t watch the game due to a cricket function but can someone explain to me how Brodie Grundy their ruckman got 33 possessions?
How the **** can a ruckman dispose of the ball 33 times in a wet weather game without being tackled?
Because he is in super form and if the club has any clue, they will throw the kitchen sink to get him to the crows at tge end of his current contract in a couple of seasons time

Not sure what that says about the rest of the team when he was one of our better players then?
And coaching. We can set up to play a certain way when you have Matt Crouch at the coal face. But when you replace him with CEY can you set up the same way? Rory Sloane was cooked. Why play him? Seems to me that there is nobody else on the list that can play to our structures other than an injured Sloane. How about change your game plan and your team selection to suit the players that are fit, the opposition and the conditions. This one style fits all is killing us. Buckley slaughtered Pyke today.

The boys on the field showed nothing, but they were weren’t helped by the coaches.
Yeah fair comment. Much like the north game last year that spurred us to look at ways to stop the Geelong method of beating us i hope this awful game makes us look at different ways of playing

Senior players set the tone.

Talia gives a hospital handball to Laird in the pocket. He gets poleaxed. Turnover, goal.

Laird marks at half back. Looks around for options. Kicks directly to Reid 40m out directly in front. Goal.

Worst game I seen Sauce play. He got smashed.

At least 8 times he eased Jacobs/Jenkins under the ball at a boundary throw in, took the ball himself, and kicked it forward. Happening once is a disgrace.

Blight shredded Pittman's ear drums and publicly humiliated him for allowing that to happen one time.

I'm sure the boys will be quaking about Doc Clarke's response.

I think we lost in the coaches box. We lost first and foremost in the spread from the contest Their midfield set up was clearly superior to ours. Smashed!

Second was the defensive set up by Collingwood against our forwards. Smashed in the air from kick and hopes.

Third was their zone against our defensive rebound, which was nearly non existent. They never let us get any sort of handball game going.

Sloane not only gets harassed at stoppages, he's unfit Just rest him. So ineffective.

Atkins was a little better.

Fog looked good down back. Just get him around it. So long as he doesn't have to run much.

I still can't fathom in what universe Pyke and co thought playing five tall forwards was a good idea. How can they be that monumentally stupid?

Not only was it completely foreseeable pre-game but you could tell in the few minutes that we simply couldn't keep up with Collingwood's smalls. All they did all day was flick it between one other and waltz it forward as our players were caught behind them on account of being too big. We just had nowhere near enough small players applying pressure/chasing around the ground. That's part of the reason why Collingwood looked to be playing with a dry footy half the time. I don't get how Pyke could not have seen that coming. It's either incompetence or arrogance - probably a combination of both.
