Good, Bad, Ugly v Collingwood

It's incredible the coaching staff still hasn't learnt a thing from the GF, it is truly amazing. Richmond won the GF with 1 key forward and we played 5 forwards over 190cm tonight in the wet.

It boggles the mind.

The arrogance and disrespect we show is mind boggling.

We ignore conditions, we ignore the opposition.

Wow . Where the hell did that come from? - last year we were going along nicely and got mighty rogered by the kangas and then bent over by bernie and co at the demons. To me it felt like that, i think i said last year Mr Pykey would be reading them the riot act after tose capitulations and looked what happened. So peeps be angry but remember we beat the premiers by 6 goals 2 weeks ago and Its not the end of the world.. just feels like it. The boys need to regroup give themselves an upercut and get dirty.

Ps give eddie a break the guys got 2 newborns ... 1 at a time is draining.

Utter stupidity to put Camporeale, Clarke and Hart back in the box together and expected anything different from the disaster that they were the last time they were all together in 2011

I have a feeling there is literally no one else available that wants to come to Adelaide for the salaries we can offer. We are scraping the barrel hard

I hope Atkins and Milera have enjoyed their brief AFL careers, because it's plenty clear they don't want to continue any further.

Four best players on the ground for us were Gibbs, Greenwood, Mackay, and Talia.

I imagine enough people have taken the piss out of the absurd selection of Fogarty in place of a pressure small, having seen both McGovern and Fogarty stashed in defense at various points of the game because the setup was so breathtakingly braindead.

We're also clearly playing a less than 50% fit Sloane because we have absolutely no trust at all in the alternatives, alternatives I might add we passed on the chance to grab Gibbs for 2017 in order to take.
You're a moron. Mackay was atrocious !! Learn football.

I also think we need to explore this in more depth.

Total injury list including the pre-season and 2018:

Alex Keath (ankle)
Riley Knight (ankle)
Sam Gibson (hamstring)
Matt Crouch (hamstring)
Kyle Cheney (hamstring)
Lachlan Murphy (hamstring)
Eddie Betts (hamstring)
Brad Crouch (groin)
Andrew McPherson (groin)
Tom Lynch (side strain)
Andy Otten (achilles)
Rory Sloane (foot strain, still playing)
Taylor Walker (foot)
Jackson Edwards (quad)
Curtly Hampton (adductor)
Myles Poholke (hip)
Jordan Gallucci (interrupted pre-season)
Hugh Greenwood (interrupted pre-season)
Wayne Milera (interrupted pre-season)

Are 19 injuries over the pre-season and four rounds of football, including 5 hamstrings, considered normal?

How did Brisbane go with our fitness manager?

Shit?

Senior players set the tone.

Talia gives a hospital handball to Laird in the pocket. He gets poleaxed. Turnover, goal.

Laird marks at half back. Looks around for options. Kicks directly to Reid 40m out directly in front. Goal.

Or the Jenkins free against when Lynch was running into an open goal...

Or when Fogarty ran one of their players down in the second. BAAAAAAALLLLLL. Crowd was pumped, only for Betts to stupidly play on, turn it over and Collingwood were able to waltz it down the other end for an easy goal.

I LOOOOVE the tantrums on this board!

I think I’m going to invest in dummies considering how many are being spat out tonight.

The Jekyll and Hyde nature of this team is a worry. What we searched up against Richmond vs tonight, is night and day.
Think most would agree that the effort put up tonight by mist of the senior players was rubbish. I don't spend my hard earned to sit in the rain and watch that crap.

You're a moron. Mackay was atrocious !! Learn football.

Mackay was in our best four, he ran hard all night, defended well, and put his head over the ball. Few others can say the same.

Milera and Atkins were supposed to come in and make Mackay obsolete, yet here we are with neither of them managing to eclipse him, and sitting firmly in the 'delist when out of contract' category.

Wow how good was grundy, he gave sauce an absolute bath and did last year as well. He is the best ruckman in the competition at the moment.

For me a couple things that stood out for me tonight and have all year is our poor tackling and our leg speed is very slow. Without Smithers and Charlie from last year we seem so slow.

If we get beaten in the midfield we struggle big time because our transition from defence is pathetic. I've said for ages we can't have both hartigan and talia in the same side. They give us no rebound at all and just continue to go sideways. I would rather an inexperienced fog play at chb and give us some rebound from there rather than two guys that offer no rebound.

We badly need to get some pace into the side especially down back to transition the ball.

We really look leg heavy on the replay and i mean deliberate off season build up of quad to thigh .
This could be a reason for the string issues as well as the drop off from Etihad game to this week .
If this is the case it is a dangerous misstep IMO as we don't have the natural fast twitch power base of a Richmond to try and match .
It will only lead to less agility in an already ageing and slow list .

The Disgusting: our esteemed leader using his pre-game warm up in the rain to practice his centre bounces with Gov and one other. Skipper, I'm all for staying relaxed, but this demonstrated an arrogant lack of focus which carried through to the game.
I don't care if he does it before every game (as one poster said in his defence). It's slack leadership. I'd prefer to see him walking around our blokes, making them focus and breath a little fire.

Top Five Worst On Ground

5th worst: Jake Kelly
Has come a long way in the last couple of seasons but that was an absolute shocker. Unlucky to be 5th. Usually that sort of game would be bad enough for outright WOG honours.

4th Worst: Tom Lynch
Continuing our senior player's trend of rushing themselves back from injury/illness if they spot a young player doing alright in their role. Should have had a couple of games in the SANFL.

3rd Worst: Rory Sloane
He's had a whole off season to work on methods to beat the tag. Progress: Zero. Nice work Campo. Couldn't play after 3/4 time last week and shouldn't be playing. But.... continuity for the win.

2nd Worst: Josh Jenkins
At least he'll be fresh for next week . Barely got out of a jog all night. Fumbled every time he was in a decent position. And the few times he got the ball took half an hour to dispose of it and do nothing. And was even worse when he went into ruck.

Worst:
Sam Jacobs
Up against the best ruckman in the competition and had his pants pulled down.

Upside
We were always going to start this season slowly. Hopefully can keep our heads above water and peak at the important stage of the season.

From October:
Reckon we'll start a bit slow next year but come home strong. Hopefully momentum into the finals.

From December:
Slow start, strong finish

From February
Few little things starting to add up unfortunately. Grand final team starts 5 weeks behind 10 other clubs in preseason preparations. Less room between end of season and Round 1 for whatever surgeries and treatments are needed.

Start slow, finish strong. Hope we don't get spooked and rush people back.

And just for good measure, on Port:
Port will fly out of the blocks IMO

Early season wins, possibly even the first Showdown. Lots of back-slapping, contracts extended for all, Koch weighing in with his opinions on all things football as self appointed statesman. Fans and club start giving advice to others sharing the secrets of their success. This thread is flooded.

Then a couple of close losses at home.

Cracks appear. They drop a game to a cellar dwellar away. Couple of the broken down recruits they brought in pick up injuries.

Wheels fall off.

Hilarity ensues.

Mackay didn't defend once. He got cheap possessions in the back half, then either sells team mates into trouble or turns it over. At best he kicked to a contest, usually to an outnumbered contest at that. A couple of pathetic efforts when he was defensive side of a stoppage. Directly cost a couple of goals. Was putrid !! Atkins was worse, but that doesn't somehow make Mackay's effort in any way good.
