Only been through a few pages but how nobody has mentioned Nicks' coaching effort as a massive win is beyond me.

He took us in with a plan, stuck to it, and executed against a fairly quality side.

First time yesterday that I've seen something different, and it worked.
You didn't read my 1st post as I credited Nicks for changing the game plan at quarter time to stifle the Bulldogs run.

As I said above, Danger won it with a terrible kick. Why is this the narrative?
you cant seriously compare keays and danger on kicking skill surely? danger has his share of clangers but to suggest keays is in his league by foot is a long stretch. keays disposal and decision making has a long way to go.

At the game the crowd from both sides was focused on them. Even the Bulldogs fans were laughing at how bad it was. One of the most obvious attempts to fix a match I've seen.
I'm watching the replay of the last quarter.
Only three minutes in, I've counted 2 marks (Dawson, RoB) and 3 free kicks not paid to the Crows.

I'm gonna stop counting. It's spoiling my replay fun, but actually makes the win more meritorious.

It's like Troy Parnell gave the umpires a pep talk at half time.

Excellent:
  • 3 weeks of 4 quarter efforts (2 games away from home is a huge tick)
  • 2 wins in a row
  • 1 win away from home against a side we've struggled with at times who pumped us on this ground last year.

Good:
  • Keays, absolute beast.
  • McHenry may not have huge stats but had real impact on the match, hopefully see more of this.
  • Jones once again very strong and his attack is beautiful to watch.
  • McAdam seemed dangerous & lively yet again, also used his speed defensively which is his barometer I reckon.
  • Frampton, always loved his kicking but wasn't sold on his defence, if he can stay with this form there's a future for him. Come on Billy proves most of us wrong. Huge match, just looked impenetrable at times.
  • Doedee seemed to be at his best again also.
  • Murphy did some very nice things, especially late in the match. Very clean with his work. I've always felt he had something to offer and got hate that was undeserved.
  • ROB was pretty huge as he should be with their main ruck out. Need to see him continue to mark like that.
  • Butts continues to impress week in, week out.
  • Our pressure was strong all match.

Bad:
- Really just some of our goal kicking though that ground does tend to bring it out and in recent weeks it's been good. Hopefully just one of them matches.

Ugly:
- I'm not as down about the umpiring as some, we were a little more undisciplined today but yes some shockers in there and they all seemed to favour one side. That non 50m in the last quarter was as bad as you'll see and at such a crucial time.

All in all very happy with that. Should go unchanged next week after another strong performance.

How does Russell not make it in your ugly?

I was worried that our fans would get carried away with a couple of wins, but reading back the thread and finding out that Keays is as good as prime Dangerfield and Butts is as good as Talia ever was I'm comfortable that we're keeping things in perspective.

I don't think anyone's suggested Keays is as good as Dangerfield but at the same age (25), Dangerfield in 2015 and Keays in 2022 he stacks up pretty well thus far in 2022.

People were genuinely comparing him to Brownlow winning Dangerfield, suggesting that he could win because his contributions are similar.

People who think that genuinely have no idea what Dangerfield's game was. Dangerfield in 2015 was substantially better at contested game, and hurt more on the score board. He was on the precipice of becoming one of the games genuine elites, which he did in fact become. One of the greatest power athletes to play the game in terms of his contest strength and raw sprinting, and he combined it with the capacity to score heavily, including by playing up forward.

Keays does not compare to that. He's having a great year, people should be content with that without making heinous comparisons.

Or you could just enjoy the win and forgive a little hyperbole.

Through 2021 and 6 rounds of 2022 we have beaten all preliminary finalists of 2021, and the '17/'19/'20 premiers.

Watched the Giants live on Friday night, that was like watching the Crows play over the past two seasons. Sportsbet have us favourites going into that match.

For mine the best part is seeing this young team start to gel, knowing how to help each other out, understanding where their team mates are running to etc.

Three in a row? Haven't done that since our only 3 wins of 2020 (which just happened to be in a row).

Lots of people were down about our Essendon game but you could see the synergy starting to click, in particular with connection to the forward line. A couple matches later and things seem to be really gelling. Lets hope we can keep that up and get a third in a row.

Yep keays ain’t winning bronlows but can poll top 10-20

I really don’t see any difference to last 2-3 seasons Talia and Butts now . In fact , I’d take Butts for what he is now

True but that was a really winnable game in hindsight given how Essendon are going

If you're just talking about 2018 Talia on, so be it, but Talia beat the best key forwards in the game consistently for an entire decade and deserves to be treated with respect by our fan base. Butts has a lot of consistent proving to do to be held in the same company.

Having said that, I'm a big fan and do genuinely think he's currently underrated on performance. Did a very very good job on some dangerous forwards the last two weeks.

Yes, and in addition I think people were for the most part frustrated about reversion.

One issue that I think was significant was the retreat to the Crouch, Laird Sloane midfield in that game- which was unsuccessful. Credit to the coaches, they voluntarily departed from that in the Richmond game and now it's been forced on them.

Our best performances this year: Showdown, Richmond, Bulldogs have involved a new mix.

Yes it sucks to come up short in winnable matches but that's bound to happen. Personally I was ok with it , we played them on their preferred ground where they are most dangerous and stuck to task all day despite them kicking ahead a few times. The effort was there and some synergy was emerging. In the end we are very much a rebuilding side so we aren't going to be perfect but when I see consistent effort over 4 quarters I find that very positive.

Yep the midfield balance that day was the likely difference between winning and losing - no doubt

And the coaches learnt something , so it was by no means a write off

The thing is, they should have known, it’s not like it was a new issue. How many of us on here have been talking about it? Media commentators have as well but they still did it. That’s why I don’t blindly follow the theory coaches know best because they see the team day in day out, too many examples of them being wrong. Game plan against the Pies and selections round 1 another example.
