Has nothing to do with winning a brownlow. It's a game of clearance work, accumulation, reputation and a couple of "wow" moments to burn it into an umpires brain.

Dangerfield, Wines, Fyfe, and even Martin all went between 50-57% KE when they won their respective medals.

you cant seriously compare keays and danger on kicking skill surely? danger has his share of clangers but to suggest keays is in his league by foot is a long stretch. keays disposal and decision making has a long way to go.

I thought Frampton showed some glimpses last year when we chucked him down back in that deplorable loss to the bombers. Yesterday he looked elite! I've been pretty critical of him, but need to remind myself he hasn't played a lot of footy (games wise). The thing is, they should have known, it’s not like it was a new issue. How many of us on here have been talking about it? Media commentators have as well but they still did it. That’s why I don’t blindly follow the theory coaches know best because they see the team day in day out, too many examples of them being wrong. All they needed to do was aim for just left of the left post in the final quarter. They all (except Tex) started it at the middle of the sticks and watched it sail for a point.

Good. Excellent all round team effort. Just hassled them all day, and we kept the pressure up.
Bad. Our goal-kicking - it's like we've never played at a ground with wind at all. Not sold on Hately as yet, would prefer Hinge to come back in for him - Hately just seems a bit off the pace.
Ugly. Umpiring - not so much the count, but those blatant ones they missed, or deliberately ignored, such as the 50 in the last qtr with a few minutes left.

Last quarter:
Tex's 500th goal shot started L, swung a little to the R.
With 16.50 to play, last quarter, Ugle-Hagan has a L-foot shot from about 45m out, NW corner.
The ball is pushed way left oof by the wind/breeze.

McAdam had 2 shots at goal in the last. @15.30 to play and at the angle he is kicking from, he is kicking straight INTO the breeze so there was little L-to-R movement. He aimed it left and it stayed left; went straight, punched through.
With 9.30 to play McAdam marked no more'n 30m out. Off the boot the ball starts L and stays left; went oof as you said.
That one kick suggests the breeze was gusty, or McAdam kicked hard-left and it stayed left.

Rachele's shot @5.45 left from almost straight out (breeze across him) is clearly wind-pushed to the R, point.
McHenry got a good pass from Walker. His shot at 3.00 to play drifts R for a point.

That made FOUR set shots @ goal from not-far-out, all kickable (Tex proved that with his 2 goals in that quarter), for 3 points .
Walker's #501 was aimed by Tex's own admission @ the L-hand goal post; breeze did the rest.

From that it's clear that:
--- there was a breeze (maybe gusty) blowing diagonally from the SE to the NW
--- only Tex used it well when kicking for goal in that last quarter.

Speaking of the last quarter, Himmelberg lifted and was instrumental with intercepts and forward pushes.
Frampton was strong, too, but had been all match .

But Murphy and Keays in particular were driving forces on several occasions in the last, with only Tex being able to convert from set shots (the McHenry goal was on the run).

I said it in the other thread, but these type of close away wins where everything is going against you (umpiring, off day in front of goal) are culture defining for a rebuild. 2 weeks in a row now where we have conceded a decent lead, only to respond straight away and eventually win. I can’t remember a Crows team winning games like this before, even when we were dominant. Scrappy wins like today are how finals are played too, couldn’t be prouder of this club!

Saw the game at the casino sport bar in Cairns - absolutely insane win.

That was hands down the best skill-wise we have been in ages, everything looked sharp and we kept it up for 4 quarters. We never dropped our heads or stopped believing we could win.

Not sure we should get too carried away about our winning spirit. It's really all down to Tex in this game, otherwise we'd be talking about the three players that all missed opportunities to win.

I’m happy for those seconds to be added back on anytime it happens in a game, but wow the focus it got post game like it made any difference really shocked me. Sunday Rub on MMM gave us a number of compliments and also spoke to Tex, easily the best review from Vic media of our game.

Wasn't Sanderson's game plan essentially built around Danger or Thommo winning it from the stoppage and just banging it inside our F50 as quick as possible and using the contested skills of Tippett and Walker? There wasn't a whole let of skill involved with it, it was all built around strength and power instead of skill (which is why Sando doubled down in the 2013 off-season and had everyone doing weights and boxing).

Worked well that one year we had Tippett, fell apart after he left and Tex got hurt. Keays actually would have fit in perfectly with our team in 2012.

We/Sanderson were really up against it in 2013 and 2014 given Tippett left and Tex did his knee.

No surprise we dropped away regardless of Sanderson’s coaching abilities.

Come to think of it, I don't remember a whole lot of awful turnovers/skill errors in defence or midfield - a definite improvement on earlier rounds.
