"**** I wish solving applied partial differential equations was that easy."

Agreed. I suck at integration and differentiation. Too many rules to remember and my Greek isn't fantastic either ;)

You need $30,000 in cash to buy a house 4 years from today. You expect to earn 4% p.a., compunded quarterly, on your savings. How much do you need to deposit today if this is the only money you save for this purpose?

A. $25,584.64
B. $25,644.13
C. 25,689.19
D. 26,008.17
Fair sure I just failed my maths test on this ****!

Deakin MAF101????!!!!

B. $25,644.13

Nope. :thumbsdown:

I hope that means the finance study is going well Cartman!

Convert the 4%pa to a quarterly interest rate and then put it all the data into your annuity formula and you're all set!

Lol at how many responses I got for that. Look I gave up on finance a few weeks ago, luckily the exam was piss easy though. :D

Ive never done finance economics, but im guess its c from rough estimations. Could be well and truly wrong though!

Bl. :(

A.

I did this by process of elimination, if you wanted to, you could rearrange the equation instead to determine the answer in one hit.

A = P(1+i)^n

A = Amount

P = Principle (Starting amount aka A, B, C, D)

i = interest rate per period, in your case 0.04/4 = 0.01%

n = number of interest periods @ 4 years calculated quarterly = 4*4=16

You know the P, i and n values, so just plug in the P values, if you started by using the value for A, that is where you would have stopped.

EDIT: Thought I better add the rearranged equation if you're interested.

P = A / ((1+i)^n)

And that's why you're a financial consultant. Perfect. :D

PV = FV/(1+(r/m))^nm

Where:

PV = Present Value

FV = Future Value

r = interest rate

m = number of compounding periods per annum

n = number of years

PV = $30,000/1.01^16

PV = $25,584.64

Well played sir. :thumbsu:

Cartman121, further maths work i'm guessing. My advice, check the back of the book.

Not further.

Deakin MAF101????!!!!

Yup. :D

You go there?

Answer is A - u need to divide the 4% into quarterly interest which is 1% and the number of term is 16 instead of 4.

$30K / (1.01^16) = $25,584.64

Why pay for a tutor when you can get answers on BF? LOL

EDIT - Just saw the above post, but nvm... you look at the terms rather than the years....

Joel Selwood will be a nice pickup in 2 weeks. Anyone jumping on him?

Came in to ask a question about Selwood, he will be comming in as my final mid, with Rich has peaked and is due to go down this week unless he can pull out a 90 against Melbourne which isnt out of the question but unlikely.

What are people predicting Selwood to go down to? Assuming rich drops 10k this week he will be at 300k i have 82k in the bank will is Selwood likely to drop to 380k??

Over the next 2 weeks I'd say about 365k. Is he worth the pick-up though? I doubt Rich will drop 10k this weeks either.

Haha i do indeed! How'd you find the exam? The theory killed me, ridiculous amount of those questions!!

Thought the exam was fairly easy actually - and i've done no work for the year, finished it in 1hr 15mins. Lol i'm the exact opposite, loved the theory hated the equation questions. How'd you find it?

Should I be embarrassed, I'm a 30-35 year old male and like Taylor Swift music?ROFL

Come on guys - fess up if you dig Taylor Swift's music?

Guilty. :eek:

Halo anyone? :p

...don't even get me started on The Climb. :D

If he scores his ave (98) next two weeks he will drop to 371k according to TS.

Hmmm. This has got me thinking. Maybe im better off holding rich for a couple more weeks and bringing selwood in. While this sounds appealing, i think i should consider this:

2xrich + 8xselwood = 2x75 + 8x105 = 990 points
10xstanton = 10x100 = 1000 points

Thats comparing bringing in stanton now, to bringing in selwood in two weeks.

Its a very hard comparison, especially when stanton could easily ave 105 and selwood ave 95, and just as easily stanton could ave 95 and selwood 105 - i would probably lean towards putting selwood about 5ppg better though.

However, i must also consider the risks involved of not bringing in a gun when i can. I have about 65k in the bank looking to upgrade rich, and thus overlooking the value of stanton is risky - what if selwood goes out and scores 130? Or what if rich has a shocker and scores 50? Then i would be left in a situation where i couldnt afford anyone at all.

Its a tough one for me personally, but i think im better off just bringing in the value (stanton) when i can, rather than waiting for the value to come around - something that is pretty risky when theres a lack of upgrade targets for the cash ive got in hand.

Just a thought with Stanton, Prismall and McVeigh should be in the Bombers side for the remaining rounds. This may take some heat off Stanton, last game Stanton was tagged and scored almost 100 points. It was only against Melbourne and the tagger was Bartram, so not an elite tagger, but still something worth considering.
