Went and had a look at Benalla and Euroa yesterday.

That was my first look at GV footy for 12 months.

Has the standard dropped over the last 12 months, or both teams not up to scratch.

Not up to scratch, Euroa won easy and they were smashed by Mooroopna the week before.

Not sure what they will have install for us this week at Mooroopna Bondy but hopefully it all gets sorted soon. Just want to see some good footy and may the best teams come out on top.

Went and watched United play Ky on my way home from the Mooroopna game on Saturday. My prediction is that Ky will not make the finals this year if they continue with their downhill skiing onball brigade. Their starting trio of Atkins, Sedon and Beattie all look super efficient when they have the ball in their hands. When there is a turnover none of these players would be within 40 metres of their opponent. Sedon and Beattie are the worst offenders. Talking to some of their supporters they said that they had nobody to step up to the plate and do some of the grunt work that Withers had done week in week out for the last two years. They said that Withers gave Atkins and Beattie a ride on his coat tails.

Guidelines
* Obviously it gets a bit hairy when we talk about some subjects within footy especially our own clubs or players, but lets stay on the topic. People don't want to read slinging matches between two posters.

* General chit chat between posters should be kept to PM or MSN.

* Posting rumors is okay, as long as its football related:
Eg: Player X is moving to Cobram next year.
Please refrain from posting Player Y is shagging player X's wife or anything else which maybe of a personal nature or significantly detrimental to the clubs within the league.

* If there is anything which breaks the forum rules, I'll edit your posts and send you a PM outlining the reasons. Feel free to argue the point with me, just don't get personal. It adds nothing to the argument.

* If you feel you are being harassed by certain posters, or have any issues at all, please PM me. If I can't sort them out then I will pass them on to someone who can.

* If you have something you wish to post but are not sure of whether it's inside the forum rules, PM me first.

I think Ky and Echuca are still the sides to beat. They have too many good players not to be up there. A few players looked in need of a run on Sat night. I think from memory Ky have always had a bit of trouble at Deakin v United even when they were struggling. Atkins, Sedon and Beattie will form a pretty lethal midfield. I think a fit Pettifer would be handy through middle as well.

Thankyou for those kind words Ashy, like to think we done it the right way:thumbsu:

How has Jake Loraine been going ? he is only very young but solid build..I watched him play for the Bushy's last year, and he was very good, strong mark and nice kick. Think he kicked 5 or 6 that day. :thumbsu:

No doubt Ky are struggling at the moment. They have played two of the slicker units in the comp in Rochy and United who are both going to be there at the business end of the year. Ky's midfield do need to be able to stem the flow defensively when things aren't going their way, Steve Thomson is back soon and he will help that part of there game immensely. Biggest plus for Ky is they have played very ordinary in both games but still had chances to win each game. From what I have seen thus far, Echuca, United and Rochy will be top 3 for me but it is only early doors.

Meka wont be coaching after round 5.
Have it from very reliable source that he has accepted 2ic at the Bendigo Bombers.
Think a few of you MEKA HATERS can eat some humble pie.

I would eat some, but he already ate my share....wow thats commitment for you, what a quality guy...Coaches a team thats involved in too altercations and thus there are now impending investigations.

His well fancied team are beaten by a better football club.

And then he jumps off after Round 5 and leaves it too someone else.....awesome

Don't want to harp but the 2 teams they played will also improve. Aitken played 5 minutes first game, Brennan ran around on 1 leg for 3 quarters and in general the game was good to watch because it was close not necessarily because either team played well.

I didnt see Ky against United but am told they got beaten out of the centre so would question their rucks at present as Seddon is a jet if he gets the ball. When thinking about it McCurry/Campbell won ruck and possesions first game so Ky ruckman would have to be thinking may be facing an early game shortly.

I hardly ever post, but after reading the recent posts I feel like someone has to stand up for the Shepp News.

I was at the Swans/Bears match and to me, the paper simply reported WHAT HAPPENED - funnily enough that's what a newspaper does: report the news.
If a certain team or offical is made out to be the 'bad guy' in the story, it's because that's WHAT HAPPENED. It doesn't mean that the paper has a vendetta against any person or club. in fact I seem to remember quite a lot of "build up" pieces written about the Swans during the summer.

Just by reading the paper on that Monday and Tuesday, the reporter didn't write any of his own opinion - he always quoted league officials and officials of both clubs.

In my opinion, the paper has made an effort to be unbiased.

While that may be true this time around (I didn't see the incident or article), in the past the shepp news was not always so impartial - How the shepp news' relationship with David Williams nowadays - still rosey and unbias?

Did the writer identify himself as a Bears player....No.

Unbiased.........you would have to be kidding .........

I sat behind the Shepparton Coach and his language towards the opposition was an absolute disgrace. Not a mention of his antics in any article. But would you expect any from his own player reporting????

Where were the pictures of him in the paper? I do not recall any mention of Bears playerers in any of the articles and their tactics. Oh yeah one line about the hay -maker that Ewart threw. They had plenty of snipers dont worry about that!!! Premeditated I believe from the Bears.

Considering majority of Euroa senior players are under 21, it was a good effort to knock over the saints! There are some good signs for the future!

I never said that Rochy and United won't improve. My statement was that Ky were very ordinary and still had chances to win the games. As I also said, IMO Rochy and Unted will finish top 3.
Ky definitely have a defficiency in the ruck, they are hardly winning a tap out of the middle and are therefore being smashed out of the centre. Having said that, they made the grand final last year with one less ruckmen than they have this year.
Its going to be a great season in the GV.

WOW it gets bigger.
Aparantly Meka is jumping ship after a few players expressed the need to leave the club.
Must say I may have been completly wrong about Meka and it isnt all about him.
When it came to a decision between him and a few players at the club he has manned up and walked with his head high.
He will be staying for a couple ow weeks so it doesnt look like a walk out sacking!!!

Bond.....

Where is it that you are getting your information from?

Or have you nothing better to do than dribble crap on here?

Why would players walk out after 2 rnds when Perry is probably the one handing out the brown paper bags with their match payments after games.

I am simply baffled by some of your comments?

After all what he has done, surely he would not now walk out on the Swannies after rd 2 :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

I would love to no who your source is, that was not meant to come out for a few weeks as far as i am aware...................

Two rounds in and the comments on the GV are coming thick and fast... bloody great. Alot to thank the Swans and Perry for I reckon. Have seen a few games, mightily impressed with United, not too many weaknesses and with Eagle, a forward who is a real match winner. It's worth 10 bucks to just see him go round!!!
Don't discard Rochy, they are going to be very hard to beat. The post about the Ky midfield is spot on. Atkins Beattie and Seddon all ski downhill and are found wanting when the opposition controls the ball. Those comments were spot on from my viewing of the game on Sat night. With Echuca looking so good the season is going to be a cracker.
If Mecka leaves, whether on his own terms or otherwise, I believe it will be a win for the Swans. With him at ther helm the clubs image and respect within the GV will continue to be under a cloud.
