Good PR helps but the key reason why the O & M has gone ahead of the GV is because more Clubs are spending above the Cap than in the GV IMO. Guys not connected to the Club don't generally travel further for the same or less money. That's my spin on it anyway.
There are more people wanting to play O&M regardless of or for the same money .
GVL just isn’t attractive to players from out of Melbourne or even gun locals , it’s sad for the whole region , but it’s lost its appeal .

What “superstars” have headed to the OM after AFL lately that didn’t actually already have links to the area.

Fev excluded. That was debt repayment

Ben Reid has just been appointed CC of Wang Magpies for the next 2 years. Played there this year Sam Murray ex Swans/Coll at Wang Rovers. Reid originally from Bright.

My point being. Both the above and Cross and Miles are actually locals coming home.

In general we don’t just see legends go on and play country footy as much as we used too.

I’m not holding my breathe for the day that Wines, Oliver, Rockcliff, Elliott all come back for a few GV seasons

Whiley coaches Yarrawonga, he played for gws and blues, not sure he's from there originally though, they also landed masters and wheeler who are as good as an AFL listed players from willy, Moore from Carlton I think is at Wang, Rovers have Roos, ankers has a pretty good footy resume from Alice Springs at wang, Jeffy gartlett is at Albury, even I think north Albury have a well creditaled coach too from the safl, then you've got Dawson Simpson (ex bushy)!@ mrtlyford and Taylor hunt ex cat & tiger, so they have outside Geelong easily the best creditaled players in Vic country

Regional Victoria out of lockdown from 11pm tonight.....

What does this mean for the GVFL? Go ahead Saturday without Melbourne players? or hold off one more week and then resume? Im leaning towards the latter but then if Melbourne stay in lockdown for the following week... They would have to play without them wouldn't we?

Good news for you guys but I hope they allow crowds. The biggest problem with covid cases is the western and northern suburbs.Eastern and southern very few cases but that can change quickly.

Trengove , Wright , McMillan , Tippett all ex AFL players all somewhat in their prime for country footy and that went else where locally, 10-15 years ago that doesn’t happen .

This statement is a broad generalisation and in my experience is not true.

They say a weeks a long time in football, its even longer in covid, cool the jets maybe, but hopefully there's games, minus crowds this week

I can confirm 100% that the GVL will resume this week without crowds and most probably without Melbourne players.

Of course that's barring any further Vic Gov lockdowns before the weekend.

Apart from eurora this year, the om recruits been higher profile for at least 5 years compared to the gv. You've got ask why, when it's further away from Melbourne
Logan Austin only played 20 AFL games so not exactly Ben Reid with 200 games. Higher profile than the Euroa blokes I would have thought. Andrew Walker? Brock McLean?

Blind Freddy could work it out but there are few behind Blind Freddy it seems!
Given the introduction of the points and salary cap where strongly linked to the imbalance within the O&M it would be a pretty safe bet to say that leagues caps are monitored more than any .
Keep in mind o&m were one of only a handful of leagues who didn’t get a extra point off players this year .
As I mentioned previously it shouldn’t be considered a slant on the GVL , it may well be that it was in clubs best interest to back off the push to being ‘elite’.
I think it’s pretty well known one club recently was in a lot of trouble $$ wise .
